Finebaum Tweet on Cuonzo

Marshall would have to slow down on the JUCO recruits if he came here. I am sure that is something that is needed at Wichita State. I knew he took several, but I just noticed that he took at least 5 in the last two classes alone. That is alot. You really can't rely on that many JUCO's to build a high major program. JMO.

Maybe. Did Kentucky go deeper in the tourney than Duke because Duke played Mercer and Kentucky didn't. Great logic. Are you sure UT couldn't have beat Kentucky in the tourney? I will agree, Wichita St matched up better talent wise with Kentucky than we do. Thus my point about having less talent than Wichita St. But to sum up the argument against my original statement that "UT went deeper in the tourney than Wichita ST with less talent"- I am wrong because Wichita St would have gone farther than us but they got beat by Kentucky, who they lost to by 1 point, and Kentucky would surely beat us because they are much better than us, but we have much more talent that Wichita St, who almost beat kentucky with the far inferior talent. Got it.

That makes no sense. You blast Marshall for not going as far in tourney, but FACT is UT didn't have to play a loaded UK team that was hot. Its just fact.

He can bring in whoever he wants as long as he wins and gets to another final 4 and gets us a number 1 seed.

Not hardly man

You acted like it never happened. When we won games we filled the seats. Simple. Not one program in the country in any of the major sports fills the seats when they are losing. When football starts winning the seats will be filled.

Why's that. He can take whoever. He's develops players nicely when he gets them. He beat us multiple times with JUCOs

Sure. All I am saying is he won't be able to do that just based on JUCO recruiting. Can't do that in a high major conference. He will have to learn to take more high schoolers, and Steve Forbes could help him with that. You can do it at a Wichita State, but I don't believe you can do it at a UT when your roster is a revolving door every two years. And if some want to bring up Cal and one and dones, they are much different than JUCO players.

I understand that but the post in question makes it sound like we normally put 100, 000 in the seats and 20,000 on a good day in basketball. The truth is...neither are filled to capacity.

For the record. I want CCM to stay. I think UT could have beaten UK. However, its crazy to surmize that CCM is better than Marshall because he went further. Marshall's resume is outstanding. I am not sure he had inferior talent at WSU this yeat imo but his resume speaks volumes.

You can do that in a mid-major conference, but what other high major coach relies on them and has succeeded? You just can't build a program on it.

First, he didn't beat us multiple times- he beat us once. Second, just because he beat us doesn't mean you build a program on JUCOS. The high majors are much different.

It is just my opinion, and I think others would say the same. I don't mind taking a couple every so often, but you can't do it at a high major program.

I said nothing of beating Kentucky, I said UT went deeper in the tourney(FACT) and has less talent. Wichita St has solid outside shooters, a legit point guard and a NBA first rounder. We had none of those.

I actually pretty much agree with all you are saying, my point was that UK has 4 or so 1st rounders. Not sure comparing Marshalls tourney run to CCM's is fair. Also, Marshall beat heavy talented teams for a great tourney run last year. Again? I prefer CCM stays, but to criticize Marshall for his exit this year boggles my mind. UK in round 2 is no picnic

So you can make a final four built around jucos but you can't if it is at a major program? That doesn't make any sense. That would be like saying you can't win with one and dones even though Calipari has proved otherwise.

really, really dumb tweet by the GWU Alum Clay Travis
Not really a fan of Clay Travis but he is spot on! Why isn't he right? We are the 3rd best team in league behind Kentucky and Florida.

Now in football hopefully it begins to change with this recruiting class and season but right now we are behind Bama, Auburn, Missouri, South Carolina, LSU, Ole Miss, Georgia, Florida and dare I say it Vandy (they have beat us two years in a row!)

Hard to argue with this record. I don't care if he's mute during interviews. Just keep that winning % and people will love him.

Marshall should have been fired after year 3 at Witchita St... According to Vol fans.

Gentlemen (and women), we have been through this numerous times over the years. Rumor comes out who the top target will be. Usually a highly sought after coach who brings up a program over a long span. Everyone debates over pros and cons until the latter group gives in and accepts that they'll be ok with this. Then, the inevitable happens: for one reason or another, the coaches stay where they are. Many factors are involved but we assume it is the incompetency of the AD because we've been here before. Truth is: Tennessee basketball doesn't seem welcoming because our passion for winning turns into aggression when it doesn't happen instantly. Let's give whomever the new coach is the benefit of the doubt, and expect greatness but not through hatred. Although the AD gets a lot of ****, they still knocked it out of the park with Butch. Let's not give up hope just yet.

The fact that he made the NCAA tourney 7 out of 9 years before coaching at WSU gives him a little more time than a coach that has made it to the tourney once in 6 years. JMO...

It's almost as if some people just argue against possible candidates just to prove they're different from everyone else. Marshall would be a slam dunk hire. It's not going to happen, but it would be fantastic.

I think Marshall would be an excellent choice for U.T. At the same time, Marshall does come with his own set of issues, and isn't as can't miss as some people think. There is a reason he has been passed over for numerous jobs before. That being said, I think he can succeed at U.T.

I keep seeing this, and I'll keep saying, time will tell. He's done very well recruiting and is an obvious improvement over Dooley in terms of representing the program and actually beat a Top 10 team. But he still has to prove it on the field, and until then, we hasn't proven to be a home run hire.
