I really don't care what your feelings are on Martin, Pearl, etc., Marshall would be a home run hire on name and hype alone.

He'd have to prove it on the court obviously (a la Anthony Grant and his failure at Alabama), but you can't deny he'd be a win in the PR battle.

You can't keep bringing up six straight. Just making the tourney is nothing if you listen to the complainers. The Sweet 16 isn't impressing a lot of folks apparently. So why should a bunch of first round losses , blowouts and underwhelming regular seasons be something continually brought up?

vs.

6 of 6 - 1 second round, 3 sweet sixteen, 1 elite 8..... 10% higher winning %. much higher RPI's and SOS..... hmmmmmmm

Gregg Marshall???? Like the coach of the year, Wichita St. Marshall???? Lol if he's an option, help Martin pack, but I'd be shocked if that is even a possibility

I heard on TSR that Marshall's abrasive style turned off some decision makers and influencers. IDK how true or if true for those now here, but just what they said. If Cheeks is one of them, I would say fire him and hire Marshall.

Marshall must really have a crush on Tennessee if Martin leaves or just wants peace of mind when he tells us to stick it. Either way, it would be interesting

Because when a poster tries to compare Marshall's first 3 yrs to Cuonzo's, it bares mentioning the immediate prior history and what they walked into.

So my point was if they were complaining about Zo's recruiting even though it produced sweet 16 results, they're likely not gonna prefer Marshall's anymore than Martin's.

A sweet 16 result. No plural involved. The point a lot of us are trying to make is that we felt this team, our UT team is loaded with talent. They pissed away games they should have won, seemingly got upset about the petition to fire martin, and made a run in the tourney. To me, this is on coaching. A quality coach has his kids ready to run through brick walls each and every game. CCM did not do it. Next man up.

I got your point which had nothing to do with my post.

My point is you can not bring up Pearl's six NCAAs then turn around and say Martin did nothing because you expected it. Pearl had a bunch of finishes in the tourney and regular seasons that were below expectations of everyone including the polls. Now a year not ranked and the Sweet 16 means nothing. Pearl was ranked every year except the first preseason. So to those complaining about this year most of his years should have been crap. Even the first year. If you get a 2 seed that means you should make the Elite Eight by their reasoning. He barely beat a 15 seed on a Lofton bailout with 3 seconds. He then lost in the second round. So either this year was great or brag on one of Pearl's years because the rest were crap.

I thought we mostly overachieved with Pearl--and so I give him most of the credit. Did he ever have the talent we had this year? I don't think so. We had three bona fide NCAA good players this year--though it took Richardson a while to show how good he was. The nice thing about this job is that the SEC isn't very strong--so if you get /some/ talent you can compile enough wins to get in the tourney. We want to do better than just get in, but that's the starting point.
