This is for any of you that nerd out on offensive schemes and wrinkles like I do. Matt Wyatt does a little film study of Heupel at UCF and during his time at Mizzou. He is a Miss St, hail state, whatever guy. But a former QB and usually pretty solid on his film breakdown.

Those last two plays against Cincinnati get me excited. Great coaching and great execution. 1 player being the sacrificial lamb so his teammate can score. Excited to see what CJH can do with the players we have on offense. Might be the highest rated prospects Heupel has had a chance to work with at the skill positions. Look forward to seeing what he can do with them. Got to find a good DC and give him complete control. Heupel can be successful here.

Man I'm so excited our players get to be in a real offensive scheme for once

Heupel's Spread ISO makes Butch Jones' scheme look like cracker jack dog ****.

We didn't even have a scheme on offense with Pruitt/Chaney. No creativity AT ALL.

It's been a long time

Drew Lock made that offense great. It improved every year he was there up to his last season under Dooley. Then he left and it sucked again. UCF’s offense declined in each of Heupel’s first two seasons, then had a bit of an uptick this year, however it aligned with a huge drop in defensive efficiency so overall they were worse.

At utah state, their offensive efficiency was basically unchanged prior to, during, and after his time there.

The offenses at Oklahoma were up and down while he was there and he ended up being fired.

I don't agree. Heupel Drastically improved Drew lock and created Missouri's new scheme to fit his skillset.

Mizzou and Lock both declined after Heupel left. Lock went from 44 tds to 28 tds and his QB rating fell from 165 to 147. The UCF offense has been dang good each year at UCF with slight fluctuations.

Their offensive rating was better in Lock’s last season under Dooley than it was under Heupel

The consistent thing with Heupel is that he coaches up QB talent everywhere he goes and his QBs play well.

Jordan Love was at Utah State....Drew Lock at Missouri. Now he's produced top 10 offenses with several different QBs while at UCF.

That’s great for a QB coach

Mizzou's Drew Lock relishes new offense under Derek Dooley

Lock said the new offense will put him under center at times, too.

“This is exactly what I wanted to experience,” he added. “I want to go into a meeting at the (NFL) combine and be able to speak ball. I want to be able to talk NFL stuff with NFL people and I wasn’t going to be able to do that (after) last year. I felt like I was good enough to go out there and sling it with those guys. I was a good enough quarterback, but I think maybe on the understanding of NFL ball I wasn’t necessarily there.”

Glad to see you're so upbeat

He had the no.8 offense in the country his 2nd year and no.2 this year. He had a true freshman QB his 2nd year. Heupel has some question marks for sure, I don't think offense is one of them..

By almost every metric Mizzou got worse after Huepel left, even though they returned a senior QB.

If you’re acting like Heupel’s offense isn’t good to great you’re purposely being disingenuous. You can hate the hire all you want and hold your reservations, but the dude knows offense. His staff knows offense. What’s even more interesting, is his scheme is adaptable. I have my reservations about the hire, but unless we had Matt Campbell walking through the door, I don’t think anything is guaranteed. I know games are about to get closer and football at ut is about to be fun to watch again.

I see an offensive guru who’s team has ranked in the top 8 since 2017. I also see a guy who hung 50 on us without blinking an eye. Well see what happens, but when guys are making all SEC, getting heisman votes and players getting drafted in the top of the draft again, the players will come.

Drew Lock was a dumpster fire as a freshman before Heupel got there. I believe he threw threw twice as many interceptions as he did touchdowns in his freshman seasin. Lock was talented sure, but Heupel had an enormous hand in his development.
