It appears that our defense made the biggest improvement this year although SC, Vandy, Missouri, Kentucky and MSST were not as good as 2018. Our Offense , not so much. Will we see an offensive improvement in Chaney's year two ? In today's game , it appears to me to be elite you must but up a lot of points early and often to the tune of 35 points min against the good teams. I think we are a long wat from that.

Hard to say...taking Vandy out, because of rain, I think there was at least 2-3 games in back half of season where Pruitt just decided we're gonna play good D, not turn the ball over, run the clock, manage the game, and go for some splash plays here and there. JG came along well as season went along, but need more consistent play next year from QB...a better running game would, for sure, help things on the score board.

Lights out D and a ball control offense has won a lot of games in the SEC. Don't believe me, look at the first 4 of Saban's championships. Bama's D was nasty and the offense was blah.

I think we see more of this from TN. Pruitt likes hard nosed D and Chaney is all about running the ball and taking shots down field when the opportunity arises.

On paper we are a long way from having an Offense that can be productive vs. Georgia , Florida and Alabama. I hope it develops the opposite.

Alabama has changed since then (post Kiffy). Offense rules the Tide now.

we'll have to sling it to make a dent in the "big boys"...our D will try to hold it's own, but conservative game mgt won't get it done against Bama, Gators, and Georgia...we just don't have the big hosses in the backfield yet...:D

I agree, but I think we are a good qb away from being competitive with anyone.

when we have a QB who can consistently read progressions and has a decent arm. The offense was hampered because the O line didn't gel fast enough and the QB play was horrible the 1st half of the season, like it was at the end of last season.

I dont believe it will In today's game. One reason is so much has changed in the game to favor the offense. They call roughing the passer for far less than they used to, and also the targeting calls.

Imo the running game will improve with good consistant qb play. But I think ball control offense will get u 8 or 9 wins in today's college play. You have to have a good passing game. For example I think LSU will beat ga. Because of the offensive scheme of ga and they have had outstanding recruiting classes, full of 4 and 5 star players.

If you go back look at Chaney's offensive rankings at other stops(including here), you will see a pattern. His offense is usually abysmal the first year. It improves dramatically in the second year into mediocrity. From there it usually doesnt get a whole lot better. Uga was the "exception" where the O got up to around 35th I believe, but that was with a offense full of 5 stat players. He's a good OC. Just not a championship OC imo.

The OL improved but needs more work in run blocking. The WR's were good. The RB's were subpar for most of the year. QB play was very weak early and still isn't as strong as some would like to believe.

Saban focused on improving his D and running game first. I imagine Pruitt will follow that same path.

Overall our O was much better, with many more explosive plays, but just inconsistent largely due to QB play. Plus the OL is so much better today than in game 1. We jumped 4 spots in the East - from 7th to 3rd. I think 5-3 was Butch’s best SEC record....

I think we can. Our offense did improve, we just need to limit mistakes on o-line and have good consistent QB play.

It's all about consistent QB play. If we had consistent "good" QB play we are 9-3 at worse right now with opportunities to steal one at Florida and at Bama this year (keep in mind we should have been down at worse 14-17 at halftime against Florida and the defense had 2 takeaways in the 2nd half). Same for next year, our schedule is decent and we get Bama and Florida in Neyland. Everyone on our schedule are losing big time players and if the defense continues to improve I believe we will have a chance in every game as long as the QB position does their job.

IMO, the biggest improvement this year was the OL. It appears they could go from worst in the SEC in '18 to maybe the best in '20, especially if Trey Smith stays. The DL was a big surprise this year, as they played much better than many projected. Players are being developed like we haven't seen since the Fulmer years. I'm starting to like this Pruitt guy.
