From a medical perspective, sustained noise at the level of Neyland during most games has some immediate impact on hearing but the worse is the long term effects. At the OK game I noted several small children covering their ears and grimacing as if in pain. As parents and grandparents we should attempt to protect their hearing. Earplugs work if used but are not 100% effective. My point is that extreme and extraneous noise is unnecessary to support our team and is or can be detrimental to us as fans. Say What? Huh? I didn't hear you. Get my point?

There are some people in this world that will BIOTCH because their appendage gets a bit 'messy' as the result of satisfying fornication...:shades:

I'll say that i agree with some of letter. I'm not against noise. You can ask my wife and kids about that during away games. But, this third down for what and all the shuckin' and jivin' is getting ridiculous. I think maybe a little harsh to call them inmates, but, I agree that 20 or so kids every year dictating 100% of what happens before, during and after the games is a big sellout. I like my vols more than most of you and i have been here a long time. I also like all kinds of music. So, it's not that. I think the crowds are perfectly able to influence the game. Putting that third down for what (which doesn't make any sense at all IMO), is not football. It's like watering down the outfield. It's cheating really. We don't need that BS. I like the band and all it stands for. I like the football and everything about it. Why throw a bunch of nonsense in there to try to spruce up something that is about as violent as allowed by law? If you think games aren't fun without it you're really just an idiot who doesn't know football. I think a lot of you kids just haven't experienced winning football in your lifetime and think this kind of **** is necessary. It's not.

Not a big deal but if it was my choice I would get rid of the piped in music during the games, which is what I believe this guy is talking about. JMO and I realize it is not a popular opinion.

What is odd is that I like it for NFL games but feel it takes away a little from the pageantry of college football.
I agree. I find it somewhat gimmicky to have the piped in music. Noise level isn't a problem, I want it to be as loud as possible but I'd rather hear the band and crowd noise. I'm 38 FWIW so I'm not sure I qualify for blue hair status yet whatever the hell that means.

Oklahoma game crowd noise was so loud you could not hear 3rd Down for what until 2nd half (buzz must have worn off)

I'd rather have stadium songs than the rap they pipe in. (Whether it's Hells Bells type heavy metal or even techno types like Sandstorn which energize the crowd). Normally I'd prefer the band, but Saturday it was like they were playing a concert rather than be a pep band

Last game for 3rd down you could hear a pin drop as kids danced to their 3rd down song. As it ended the crowd got loud. Much rather have Oklahoma game noise to disrupt the offense than dancing in the seats

VOL NATION: Thank you for your input on noise factor.
1) I love the 90 thousand or so Orange & White clad supporters ( and our magnificent 300 member " Pride of the Southland Marching Band ) and the stupendous cheers we emit to foil the opposition as they try to foil us. I love that and many times I have screamed myself so hoarse I was unable to sing in the choir next morning here in beautiful downtown Bellsburg, ( a suburb of Charlotte, ( Tennessee ).
2) It is the piped in " Third Down for What", and the ( I can not call it music ) " racket" , piped in before the game,
( that makes conversation useless ), I intensly dislike.
3) If you read the lyrics of " Turn Down for what" you would not be as enthusiastic about allowing it at the game.
4) I have been to hundreds of Tennessee games, home & away, and no one has this level of sheer racket. All cheering is NATURAL!
5). I must say the best post was the guy who said: " I can't hear you- what"?
GO VOLS ! Beat Florida. EJB.

I don't want people like this attending games at Neyland so good riddance, and I hope he never steps foot in our cathedral again. Or he could stop being such a little ***** and realize that's the point of home field advantage is to be as loud as possible.

SIAP: A fan wrote this letter to the Knoxville News Sentinel after the OU game about Neyland being too loud. He might not exactly be well received...

Letter: Neyland Stadium is way too noisy - News Sentinel Story

Sounds like it was his first time in Neyland. Having been coming to our hallowed stadium from 1956 through and including the Oklahoma game, it's never been "too loud" for my money; there's no such thing. BTW, has anyone ever been to Charlotte, Tennesse? I have; quaint and very, very quiet.... birds chirping, cows mooing and grass growing. That's about it.
