Fan negativity

I haven’t seen a single post about Heupel needing to go, here or elsewhere.

In my experience though, the people who complain about the fanbase wanting coaches fired after any degree of complaints tend to be the dumbest among any fanbase. Those are the types of people who defended Jeremy Pruitt after Georgia State and said people were dumb to doubt him, then tried to serve crow because he beat Indiana in a bowl game.
You have eyes grasshopper, but you do not see....

Over the last several days we have been inundated with lunacy about Heupel needing to go, meaningless bowl games better than CFP, sky is falling after a 10-2 season and early departure from CFP, you name it, it has been mentioned.

How do we cleanse and purge the stupidity of the few, but very loud lunatic fringe? Is it our duty to call out and deal with our own? If so, how do we accomplish this?
Argue endlessly or use the Ignore feature.

Summary: "Its okay to offer crtiques to improve the program,, but a relative handful of "negaVols" are losing their minds and may be making it harder to attract talent".
Absolutely stupid article and comment. Do you not know what attracts recruits in this current climate of college football? Money and that is all. If you can pay more they will come. Players are not looking to build culture anymore. It's I'll get mine or enter the portal again.

Happy new year and GBO!!!

Does this fan purge happen before, or after, our team finishes purging itself?

Exactly. The 'well, I guess I follow the guy who has been doing this for X years' blind coach loyalists are EXCATLY who led us over the cliff defending Dooley, Butch, and Slingblade. All three coaches had the SAME fringe people defending them until the day they were fired.

There is absolutely no groundswell to do ANYTHING with Heupel at this point. I know someone posted ONE call for him to go, but there is nothing like any kind of actual movement to replace him. We ALL want Heupel to succeed.

Position coaches? Yes, a couple need to be evaluated and potentially shown the door. We have a virtually empty receiver room, and we have YET to truly develop an OL under Heupel - our OL contains largely Pruitt guys. If that doesn't alarm you, then you're beyond hope.

So let's hold talk of 'purging' anyone, and allow all fans to voice concerns. Even if they don't agree with you. We had a good season that limped to an uninspired ending. That 'momentum' is not good. I'm interested to see what actions Heupel takes. If he goes Full Fulmer and refuses to do anything, he will SERIOUSLY endanger his job here.

I still trust Heupel to take smart actions, but I'll admit the fact he has NEVER fired a coach (according to several posters here) worries me. Loyalty is awesome, and an important element of developing a team, but so is honest evaluation and holding your staff to standards.

We will see.

I use the ignore button---I can feel my IQ dropping when reading some of their posts

Ready for an unfortunate fact?

The Tennessee fan base is NO MORE fanatical than any other top 20 university program! Period.
This same conversation about portals, coaching, players etc. is happening everywhere.

How do you think Alabama fans are reacting right now after that embarrassing debacle of a game against Michigan just now???

If the op were a bama fan he would be talking about we just have to give Deboer a chance.

Lunatic Fringe by Red Ryder was a great song. Always liked it.

If Bama fans can keep the Saban family from embezzling their NIL, fahr all their coaches, light up twitter, and boycott games, I think they can turn their program around.

That’s why you can’t get public figures for every Bama player’s NIL and what Bama offers each recruit and portal guy.

Reality: Biggest threats to college sports are here to stay.
These two proponents are not going anywhere and no one has control over the administration of it. So the answer is to adjust.

Can't Cap NIL and NIL is not all that bad, but you can? possibly change the portal rules?

At this point we have to trust the coach's decisions. So some are going to question the coaches' decisions. It is on him and the staff so be it.

The players have been given the right to shop away and it is the nature of the beast.

Some idiot maybe not but some one stated that spyre was collecting 30-40% of donation money. I would think they are audited in depth and have to account for all donations to the IRS.

Disagree… not everybody is motivated by dollar signs.

It’s a very destructive lie. Started by fan/trolls from other teams. Trying to trick Vols fans into attacking and boycotting our own source of funds.

Now Bama NIL does that. Please inform Bama twitter.

Yeah, just like how fan negativity affected Ohio State against us. Good grief.
Fan negativity really played little in it period. This was a locker room and team leadership fix. Losing to Michigan was just a backdrop. OSU beats Oregon by 14+ tomorrow and I think will win it all.
Which will just confirm you can buy a team.

Yes, exactly my point.

Why can’t we get public figures for every one of our guys’ NIL and what we offer everyone at Tennessee? Pretty sure every team is like that.

Spyre doesn’t release it due to “competitive advantage”. UTAD audits them but doesn’t release a report. We just take their word that everything is above board, without even knowing a general idea of the financial picture actually is.

Spyre employee? Nothing wrong with knowing how donated money is being spent. The way they are being defensive, makes it look like they have something to hide.
Defensive? How so?

What do you want exact figures on what athlete gets what? How much is spent on which programs?

The AD gets all that information and also audits Spyre. You want that to be public info where other teams know exactly how much money Tennessee has to utilize?
