In the latter two-thirds of 2019, after a rocky start, we beat all the little guys. That's another way of saying we "won the games we were supposed to win" in the back half of the schedule. So that's roughly where Coach Pruitt has us on the We Are Back ladder, thus far.
Based on that, based on where we
are, this next season my expectation is at least one step higher on the ladder: something like a 9-3 regular season (if we play all 12 games), with at least one win over one of the Big 4 opponents. If we take two steps forward, splitting games with the Big 4, even better. But the baseline expectation is simple: forward progress. Improvement.
And the season after that, two seasons from now, the expectation will be higher, based on where we are then.
In other words, to answer the OP's question, yes. Yes, we demand SEC title contenders in our program. And yes, we would be happy (for now) with a 9-win season. Because it would represent progress.
Improvement. It's all about moving toward the ultimate goal.
Go Vols!
