Expectations

There ya go!

Better yet if we protest all Bama championships they’ll have to be vacated.
Then they’ll protest our protest and then we’re gonna have a protest about not protesting and UT turns into Port Chester University. 😉

247 2019 class composite
1 Bama
2 GA
4 TAM
5 LSU
9 FLA
11 Auburn
13 TN

I do not think that will win us a championship.
Never said it would but in 2019 ga had the number one recruiting class in the nation... Again last year we ended with the number 10 class we need three more years in the top 10 to have a shot. Hell LSU according to your stats is ranked 5th yet they went undefeated and destroyed everyone.

Not enough talk of beating Bama. Beat Alabama and the rest will take care of itself. Beat them in the next 3 years or get out. 13 years is embarrassing. Do we seriously want to contemplate 20 years in a row?
What if we’re trending in the right direction every time we lose to them? It would be foolish to move on if we’re 1 bounce of the ball away. Im not talking about John Cooper losing you Michigan year after year for 10’years, but we gotta kick in the door Every team that’s ever achieved anything great has had to overcome beating an adversary that’s always stood in their way.

In the latter two-thirds of 2019, after a rocky start, we beat all the little guys. That's another way of saying we "won the games we were supposed to win" in the back half of the schedule. So that's roughly where Coach Pruitt has us on the We Are Back ladder, thus far.

Based on that, based on where we are, this next season my expectation is at least one step higher on the ladder: something like a 9-3 regular season (if we play all 12 games), with at least one win over one of the Big 4 opponents. If we take two steps forward, splitting games with the Big 4, even better. But the baseline expectation is simple: forward progress. Improvement.

And the season after that, two seasons from now, the expectation will be higher, based on where we are then.

In other words, to answer the OP's question, yes. Yes, we demand SEC title contenders in our program. And yes, we would be happy (for now) with a 9-win season. Because it would represent progress.

Improvement. It's all about moving toward the ultimate goal.

Go Vols!

Classic Vol Fan here. I expect/hope to win the SEC every year. If not, then why are you even playing/watching? Even during our down years Lord help my soul, I’ve expected us to upset Alabama almost every year.

Idk if 3 years is too ambitious. I am just sick and tired of losing to Alabama. What does get out mean? If means GTFO of Knoxville if you can’t beat our biggest rival once in awhile.
So Pruitt...who’s been here TWO seasons?

Sorry man, I have to call BS on this. First, recruiting classes and stars are great but remember it is more of position needs and systems. Also, 247, Rivals, ESPN are first about making money and don't forget it. Information is biased depending on who does the recruiting and camps and highlight videos so their information is manufactured, so is the info true or not? Which is right, is ESPN garbage while Rivals is best even though there is a Bama alum on staff? No 247 Composite is best, right, law of averages? See where I am going, this info is subjective and taking a coaches own knowledge and evaluations hold more water in my book.

Bama has been a recruiting machine for more than 10 years now. No question there by your data? Last year they are playing injured freshman linebackers and watching their previous star QB playing for another team while theirs gets injured. GA in the same boat with Fields and OSU and this year they are depending on a transfer QB with a suspect o-line after top 5 recruiting under Smart for 3+ years? If this is not enough info to refute your statement I stand on this point alone. LSU with all of those first rounders and solid recruiting does not win the title last year without Joe Burrow, a transfer. It starts and ends with an elite QB in modern football and 10 years of number one classes will not fix that issue as we have seen this time and time again. Yes, a defense and deep roster certainly matter and are critical, but in this day and age the QB gets you the trophy.

We are in the wrong conference to expect more than 8 or 9 wins. I can't remember the last time we won 10.

Madam, I beg to differ.

Someone has to win the SEC each year. Some two or three or four teams have to dominate it. We used to be one of those teams. And can be again. Now our coaches and players just gotta put in the hard work to get back there. Our AD and university leadership have to give the coaches and players the resources and other tools they need. We the fans can help by supporting and encouraging championship aspirations.

Madam, we are in exactly the right conference to expect more. This is our conference.

Go Vols!

Do you think that logic applies to UF, UGA, Auburn, LSU ? Because I don’t think it does. It wasn’t that long ago when 8 or 9 was a letdown . I expect to live in that world again.

For a normal Tennessee team, 6 wins are baked into the schedule.

3 cupcakes, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Missouri (historically, Missouri is not good)

There are 4 tough opponents, 1 OOC, Florida, Alabama, and Georgia. But, there will be times when some of those teams are down.

Then, there is South Carolina who is usually average. And the other West opponent and that depends on who it is and the given year.

So, if you win the “automatics” and split the rest, you’re talking 9-3. Some years may be 7-5, some may be 11-1, but 9-3 should be a normal “win some, lose some” year.

And then, there’s the bowl game

We are getting a good recruiting class in 21 plus we had a good one last year. Why can’t we be competing for a SEC and East title in 2022. We wanted to run Phil off for 8-4 seasons
Actually it was for two 5-7 seasons. His last contract paid him a bonus for 8 win seasons.
