I’d flip Florida and Missouri. Otherwise I completely agree.Look at and categorize the schedule:
Gimmies: Georgia St, UTC
Should win: BYU, UAB
Toss ups (50/50): Miss St, South Carolina, at Kentucky, Vanderbilt
Will likely be underdog, but still a chance of winning: Missouri
Assumed losses: at Florida, Georgia, at Alabama
If you handle all the gimmies/should wins and split the toss ups, that's 6 wins. 7 wins is possible, and 8 would be a really great season. The floor is theoretically 4, IMO, and would be a miserable season.
It's so hard to categorize these before the season starts. It is entirely possible that the Vandy game, for instance, ends up being a "should win" by the back end of the season if Vandy really has struggled, is dealing with injuries, etc. Before the Kentucky game last year, I would have put that in the "assumed loss" category but we ended up winning. Same with Auburn. I would have put Florida in the "toss up" category but we got smoked.
Assuming the gimmies/should win games are handled, the season will be determined by how we do in the toss up games.
Interesting. Average or better DL gets 8+ wins. The more I’ve thought about it the less reasons I can find for more than 4 regular season losses IF the DL is average or better.
With this schedule if Pruitt can't win 6 games then he doesn't need to be here...6 minimum...7 if we steal one along the way.Not counting vacated games, Saban went 2 and 6 in SEC play during his first year. He was 8 and 0 in his second year.
Part of me wants to keep my expectations low so I won't be disappointed but I'm also expecting a second year surge.
We need to beat at least one of FLA, ALA or UGA and combine that with 3 wins against Vandy, KY and USCjr. That will get us bowl eligible with a couple of wins over non conference teams and I'd be satisfied that the season was a success if that all happens. That's what I expect. Am I expecting to much too soon?
What's your expectations?
I’m going 8 wins. Also, everyone will say we should have won ten.
We will bury the usual suspects and Florida will be a hard fought game, could go either way. We always play GA tough, who knows. Bama probably a loss this year on the road.
I think you’re expecting a bit much to beat Georgia or Alabama but I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility to beat Florida, being in the swamp be damned. We seemed better prepared to play on the road last year than we did at home. I realize you didn’t say you expected to beat any of those 3 teams but out of the 3 I think we are closer to Florida than the other two.Not counting vacated games, Saban went 2 and 6 in SEC play during his first year. He was 8 and 0 in his second year.

I think in year 2 with the dumpster fire Pruitt inherited I wouldn’t look in the win/loss column to decide if we are on pace, although 7-5 is reasonable to expect. Instead I’m going to concentrate on “margin of loss” if you will against teams that beat us handedly last year. Not counting vacated games, Saban went 2 and 6 in SEC play during his first year. He was 8 and 0 in his second year.

I think folks underestimate what solid LB play can do for a defense. I also think people underestimate the impact that an elite true freshman can make on the offensive line in the SEC.
To'o'to'o and Crouch put in a good year while Taylor and Thomson lock down the perimeter. Morris is Freshman All-SEC. Throw in a Chaney offense and you've got yourself a 9-3 season. 10-2 if Trey Smith stays healthy.
