Expectations for Pruitt's 2nd year

1. Minimum of 7-5 record
2. Beat Vandy, Mizzou and Kentucky
3. Win bowl game to create momentum in recruiting and for 2020 season
4. The look and play of the team resembles an SEC caliber team

This is not too much to ask.

I get it, but you have to agree, no one really know what THIS team is capable of, if you are gauging your assessment on last year's team, I think you are underestimating great coaching. This nightmare doesn't have to last any longer, they have the men to be special..........and I think Pruitt know it.

Look at and categorize the schedule:

Gimmies: Georgia St, UTC
Should win: BYU, UAB
Toss ups (50/50): Miss St, South Carolina, at Kentucky, Vanderbilt
Will likely be underdog, but still a chance of winning: Missouri
Assumed losses: at Florida, Georgia, at Alabama

If you handle all the gimmies/should wins and split the toss ups, that's 6 wins. 7 wins is possible, and 8 would be a really great season. The floor is theoretically 4, IMO, and would be a miserable season.

It's so hard to categorize these before the season starts. It is entirely possible that the Vandy game, for instance, ends up being a "should win" by the back end of the season if Vandy really has struggled, is dealing with injuries, etc. Before the Kentucky game last year, I would have put that in the "assumed loss" category but we ended up winning. Same with Auburn. I would have put Florida in the "toss up" category but we got smoked.

Assuming the gimmies/should win games are handled, the season will be determined by how we do in the toss up games.
I’d flip Florida and Missouri. Otherwise I completely agree.

The more I’ve thought about it the less reasons I can find for more than 4 regular season losses IF the DL is average or better.
Interesting. Average or better DL gets 8+ wins.
I Assume you count all non SEC games as wins. (4).
I Assume you count UGA and UA as losses (2).
Which means you think against MSU, VU, USC, UF, Mizz, UK we can go 4-2 or better?

That would be an outstanding improvement.

I'm a bit more pessimistic.

Sounds like Butch Jones 2nd year

Almost certain losses:
Georgia
Alabama

Probable losses:
Florida
Mizzou

50/50 games:
South Carolina
Mississippi State

Probable wins:
Georgia State
BYU
Chattanooga
UAB
Kentucky
Vanderbilt

Looking at our schedule, I honestly dont see more than 5 potential losses unless we have an epidemic level of injuries. I'd say 7-5 would be an expected year. 6-6 would be borderline underachieving. 5-7 or worse and Pruitt is not the guy. 8-4 or better will give me a lot of hope for the future of our program! But one thing is for damn sure! No matter what happens in the first 11 games, we'd BETTER cap our season off with a Vandy ass-whoopin!

If we finish the season with 7 wins it's a step in the right direction. I don't care if that 7th win is a bowl game or regular season. 2020 is the year we should see vast improvement. We have to remember we are coming off 4-8 and 5-7 seasons respectively.

Not counting vacated games, Saban went 2 and 6 in SEC play during his first year. He was 8 and 0 in his second year.

Part of me wants to keep my expectations low so I won't be disappointed but I'm also expecting a second year surge.

We need to beat at least one of FLA, ALA or UGA and combine that with 3 wins against Vandy, KY and USCjr. That will get us bowl eligible with a couple of wins over non conference teams and I'd be satisfied that the season was a success if that all happens. That's what I expect. Am I expecting to much too soon?

What's your expectations?
With this schedule if Pruitt can't win 6 games then he doesn't need to be here...6 minimum...7 if we steal one along the way.

I’m going 8 wins. Also, everyone will say we should have won ten.

I think (barring a catastrophic injury), a reasonable, minimum W/L is 7-5. That's 1 game ahead of Butch in 2014 (This year's schedule is more favorable too with BYU in lieu of at OU).

If we are 6 or lower, the seat will be warm in 2020...

For the doubters, we'll beat Florida. Now, as to what I expect is guaranteed. I expect negavols and their subsidy things to lie in wait for the slightest excuse to whine, criticize, negativize, the slightest real or imagined mishap.

We will bury the usual suspects and Florida will be a hard fought game, could go either way. We always play GA tough, who knows. Bama probably a loss this year on the road.

So 79-12 the past 2 years is playing UGA tough? Lol. Ok. Bama is probably a loss? They will slaughter us again. By burying the usual suspects, do you mean beating up on the super weak teams on our schedule but losing to Missouri and Vandy?

I hope you are right but history says Florida will win.

I think you’re expecting a bit much to beat Georgia or Alabama but I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility to beat Florida, being in the swamp be damned. We seemed better prepared to play on the road last year than we did at home. I realize you didn’t say you expected to beat any of those 3 teams but out of the 3 I think we are closer to Florida than the other two.

As for me, expectations wise I don’t think we see that big surge until next year. I hope it’s this season but I think it will be next season. I think 8-4 is the ceiling and 6-6 is the floor this year. Schedule is much more favorable than it has been. I think we get the 3 games of GSU, UTC, and UAB. I’m fairly confident that we will beat BYU, although I don’t expect that game to be an easy W. There’s 4 wins. I think we beat Kentucky and Vandy. That’s 6. I think we beat Carolina that’s 7. If I had to bet I’d say we lose to Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Mizzou for sure. Miss State is a toss up IMO.

I think in year 2 with the dumpster fire Pruitt inherited I wouldn’t look in the win/loss column to decide if we are on pace, although 7-5 is reasonable to expect. Instead I’m going to concentrate on “margin of loss” if you will against teams that beat us handedly last year.
We should be within 10 win or lose vs Florida. Within 17 in our loss to Bama.
And within 13 to UGA in our loss.
We gotta beat Vandy and compete with Missouri.

That all being said we don’t know which Butch guys quit last year either. That could rear its ugly head again for all we know.

I think folks underestimate what solid LB play can do for a defense. I also think people underestimate the impact that an elite true freshman can make on the offensive line in the SEC.

To'o'to'o and Crouch put in a good year while Taylor and Thomson lock down the perimeter. Morris is Freshman All-SEC. Throw in a Chaney offense and you've got yourself a 9-3 season. 10-2 if Trey Smith stays healthy.

Has Trey been cleared to play. I hope so for the kid. He's a gamer who deserves a shot at the NFL.
