Even More Obamacare Follies

You paying slightly higher taxes helps society, and therefore helps you. I don't want to live in a country with a sick population that will give me diseases. Therefore, it is incredibly worth it to pay taxes to free these people from the free market price system so that they can get medical care.

I have a wonderful idea for you. Why don't you go out and find a family or five to sponsor and buy them an insurance plan? You can pay their monthly premiums and make sure they stay healthy and in turn, you get to feel good about helping someone and therefore reduce the sick population.

Brilliant!

The only thing being paid is a revolving security blanket to dead beats. When you get hungry you should fear starving. When you get sick you should fear dying. When you choose to sit on your ass you should have nothing. Get the picture? If your broke, hungry, cold, sick, jobless or whatever else there should be a huge sense of urgency to not be that doesn't include running to a government office for freebies.

So, what happens if I don't have health insurance? A lot of young adults my age have no idea on what's actually gonna happen. It's also hard to get insurance at my job as I am a gator handler. I know, woe is me but any advice or simply answering my question will be grateful.

When is it enough? When I can't feed my family? Are you going to start looking at my finances and determine I have a little more to give? What if I decide to buy a brand name instead of generic? Will you penalize me for being so greedy? And on the other side of the issue, will you start looking at those on long term assistance and hold them accountable? I would assume not, so those who want to work will be worked to death to save those who chose not to work. Eventually the whole thing will come crashing down.

:good!:
Simple enough.

Wonder why? Maybe because they are talking heads and to the heart of the matter, are full of it.

If you receive food stamps or any sort of government assistance you're a freeloader. How hard or how long they work, if at all, is very subjective & who really gives a damn? I don't. There should be incentive & an urgency to do better than that situation instead of incentive to stay in it.

I have to disagree with you on this one cc. My mother had to go on food stamps when she was raising me on her own when we lived in Maryland. My deadbeat dad would not pay any child support, my mom could not work because of my asthma and being a sickly child who was in and out of the hospital the first couple of years of my life. My mom had nobody to help her. What was she supposed to do? I was raised in a roach infested, run down dump of an apartment. We did come off all assistance once I became healthier though.

I agree that there are many who take advantage of the system, but not every person on food stamps and government assistance are freeloaders. Sometimes it's just not that simple.

I feel for you, it must be tough not knowing how much you are going to be shafted by the way this law is developing. Your demographic is expected to help keep my costs low while also footing the majority of the bill for the poor and elderly. Welcome to adulthood.

At this point, if you haven't already, see if you can get a catastrophic plan that covers you in the event you have a serious medical condition. Then establish a health savings account to cover routine costs. Use the Urgent Care facilities, rather than the ERs. Generally they'll run you about $75 bucks to get treated for the flu or similar issues, as well as broken bones, sprains and so forth.

I understand there are tough situations & those who don't necessarily abuse government assistance. That said it shouldn't be the responsibility of the government or tax payers to bail people out of tough situations. If people want to voluntarily donate to a cause that's fine but using tax dollars or forcing people to buy something that's worthless to create more welfare is wrong.

Exactly
The $ for those roads, schools and police departments just fell out of the sky.

When I pay my vehicle property taxes it has it all broken down to where that money supposedly goes. $x.xx amount to library, to schools, to fire dept, etc & so on. A few years ago they lumped a $25 road fee in there. Not sure where that money goes because there's still potholes everywhere. Then I see perfectly good sidewalks being torn up & being rebuilt because that's federal government money that they have to use or they lose it.

Excellent post. This is why we need an extensive safety net.

The key is they came off assistance as soon as he got healthy. This shows how the system should work. But if you've ever seen a disability form, you'll notice how the system encourages life time enrollment of children in poor households. The system is strapping them with a label and limited resources for life, with little incentive to break free. We've only made things worse with our supposed good intentions.

The fact of the matter is that America is the last first world nation that still makes people pay for healthcare. We don't make people pay for police and fire departments precisely for the same reason more enlightened countries don't make their citizens pay for medical care. For you conservatives, would you think it moral to see an impoverished family die in a house fire because a private fire brigade wouldn't help them?

Who pays for healthcare in those other nations?
