Evan Russell responds to Chipper's rant

I don’t think he was wanting to explicitly put individual coaches, players, and programs on blast initially imo. He just wanted to vent his frustrations from what he was seeing on television. He is usually respectful of those that are involved in the game and it would have been out of character for him to completely rail against these guys publicly. I don’t think he realized how much of a reaction it was going to get so he ultimately had to name those coaches and players or else he was going to continue getting peppered by all those fanbases.
Well, he said enough that most people (including the fan bases he was speaking of) figured it out anyway. I try to assume positive intent most of the time but when he came back with the “guess which 3 fan bases are giving me smoke”, it was pretty “trollish” IMO. There was the opportunity to clarify not add fuel to the fire. Maybe his chat with CTV helped him in this space?

Hopefully, he has learned that being vague actually ends up offending way more people (right or wrong) in the long run. But that is Twitter/X in a nutshell, isn’t it?

Yes, that was bad.

My question...at what point in time was Sully notified of the one-hour delay. That language..

Gators and Sully are quite tired of one another, so I thought he might shuffle over to Miss St,
He might not have known until that morning. But still, a one hour delay isn’t anything to get that worked up about. Doesn’t make any sense why he crashed out like that. Mississippi State already hired a new coach btw.

Did he apologize?

Yes, I heard about State. That UVA guy is a better choice than sully imo.

Sully used to be a good coach, but think CTV makes his hemorrhoids bleed profusely.

Some people call it trolling. Some people say it is calling out childish fanbases passive-aggressively, which we are definitely one. Maybe Vol fans shouldn’t have their finger on the trigger of a loaded gun 24/7. The world doesn’t revolve around us and there are other baseball teams out there, as he stated.

I don’t care if it’s about TN or not. The guy complained publicly and hilarity ensued.

If you think the way Kevin O’Sullivan, FSU’s player, or Georgia players were doing the sport any favors then you are kidding yourself. It wasn’t a “get off my lawn” post. It was a “stop acting like jackasses” post.

Everyone in here bashing Chipper over this is an idiot. This is why you don’t assume anything. We have some very unintelligent people in our fanbase.
Troll. You and 52 both. He came clean with an apology. He did the right thing. You need to get off your own horse.

I’m good. Seems as though the adults in the room have settled down. Did I react defensively as a Tennessee Beisbol fan? Yes sir. Did I call for a clarification? Yes sir. Did Chipper feel the need to clarify? Yes sir. At this point, I’m looking forward to the series this weekend. 🤙🏼

I don’t think he apologized. Too many people’s feathers were ruffled so he felt the need to clarify who he was talking about. Don’t think he really wanted to put individuals on blast, especially players and ruin their draft stock or get coaches fired potentially. But since everyone went nuclear he named the names.

I wasn’t upset about him “targeting the Vols” even if it felt like he was including them in that vague statement. I simply just disagree with the baseball purist mentality that the sport shouldn’t evolve and needs to remain emotionless and sterile to “love the game.”

He didn’t say anything about being emotionless though and that’s where people pulled the proverbial trigger. Can anyone point out where he was complaining about normal celebratory behavior from college kids/coaches? All people had to do was put 2 and 2 together. Chipper is from Florida and spent his entire career with the Braves so it makes sense his eyes would be on Florida, FSU, and Georgia games. Probably also had his eyes on Miami since he accepted a scholarship offer there before going to the draft. It was very clear he was pointing out the actions of Kevin O’Sullivan, that FSU pitcher (I didn’t watch their games so I didn’t see initially), and the Georgia players having their jerseys unbuttoned to their bellybutton. That’s not being purist, that’s pointing out jackass behavior. If you think the way any of those people were acting is good for the game then you are wrong.

I lost a lot of respect for Larry when I learned he was a gator fan.

I mean, if that's not proof of poor judgement, I don't know what is...

He was born right in the middle of Florida. Blame his parents.

Yeah I pretty much agree. I wasn’t crazy about the uniform thing with GA. I’m kinda surprised that the league allows the uniforms to be worn as such in games, but what do I know, I guess I’m finally showing my age.😂

I somehow missed the deal about FSU’s player, what went on there?
