Well, he said enough that most people (including the fan bases he was speaking of) figured it out anyway. I try to assume positive intent most of the time but when he came back with the “guess which 3 fan bases are giving me smoke”, it was pretty “trollish” IMO. There was the opportunity to clarify not add fuel to the fire. Maybe his chat with CTV helped him in this space?I don’t think he was wanting to explicitly put individual coaches, players, and programs on blast initially imo. He just wanted to vent his frustrations from what he was seeing on television. He is usually respectful of those that are involved in the game and it would have been out of character for him to completely rail against these guys publicly. I don’t think he realized how much of a reaction it was going to get so he ultimately had to name those coaches and players or else he was going to continue getting peppered by all those fanbases.
Hopefully, he has learned that being vague actually ends up offending way more people (right or wrong) in the long run. But that is Twitter/X in a nutshell, isn’t it?
