espn on UT QB battle...

And if he's smart and Jones has managed the relationship well then he will stay, learn, and be as ready as Dormady appears to be when it comes his time to start.

I hope so. But, for some reason, I think JG will never do anything at UT. I think Dormady will end up being our starting QB for the next 2 years and JG will end up transferring after the end of next year. Then, Martinez will take over. Don't ask me why, because I don't know, just a feeling I have. Do I hope that happens ? No. I hope JG is the 2nd coming of Dobbs, plus a better passer. But, whenever a kid is this hyped up and has never really proved anything, in high school, mainly because of injuries. It seems like everybody just expects him to be great, because of his size, speed, arm strength and most of all potential, they just never live up to it. Like I said, I hope I am wrong, but that's my prediction. Tifwiw

To summarize the previous 101 posts:

1. ESPN are idiots.
2. Ed Aschoff mails in his work.
3. Dormady's the dude, with Guarantano as his backup, barring significant change over the summer.
4. 50% of VolNation still hate Butch; 50% still support him.
5. Verifying point #4 took up 50% of this thread about QBs.

"First of all, there's no Joshua Dobbs, who was behind center at Tennessee for approximately 35 years."

There is no battle. Don't let the media fool you. It is Dormady.

JG will be backup but will see playing time this year in the second string.

Lol. JG was the favorite and it is still neck and neck. Both looked good in the spring game. Both had been about even in practice.

Dormady may never start a game. Jg may never start a game. Right now its pretty even.

Only fans think this is over. People who actually cover the team and go to practice know its neck and neck.

JG was never the favorite. Dormady has been the favorite for the job this year since he was a back up as a freshman.

This is as reactionary as those declaring Dormady would "never play a significant snap at Tennessee". Hey, it's YOUR feeling...no hating. I haven't come to any conclusions...been a Vol fan too long. :fool:

Some of you DECLARED him the "favorite" and cited fictional "reports" from "experts" who seemingly do nothing but cover Vol QB prospects. I actually agree that the competition is far from over and won't cease even if Dormady initially wins the nod. JG would be ever prepared to take over. Of course if JG wins out, Dormady would need to acknowledge his unburnt RS year and it's usefullness in a transfer. Far from over...far from over.

Yeah... they really are. Not that I expect you to ever research facts or admit you are wrong.

You have no way of knowing that nor do I. I probably like Dormady and JG as much as you. I'm just realistic about how they fit in the world of college football.

Dormady doesn't have nearly the arm talent Bray had. UT hasn't had a QB except maybe Shuler with that kind of accurate arm strength.

Wow. You just get more and more irrelevant all the time, don't you?

Probably.... because you simply lack the ability to follow facts and sound reasoning.

I disagree about Shuler. Certainly Tony Robinson's arm talent ranks close to the top, if not at the top. Both Bobby Scott and Pat Ryan had nice arm talent as well

Dormady was less highly touted and has less physical talent throwing and running. JG became the favorite over Dormady when he signed. There is a reason articles like this say just that. It isn't made up. Dormady was the lowest ranked qb we have besides MCBride. He has done what he needs to put himself in a good position to start but he was and is the underdog compared to JG.

Like I just said, there is a reason for articles like this. All the people who cover the team and talk about the Vols on the radio called JG the favorite before the spring. That doesn't guarantee he starts, but it was put out there repeatedly. I linked many articles in the past saying it.

The media may of said he was the underdog, but in reality, he wasn't.

Running? Maybe, yeah, probably to very likely. But talent throwing the ball?? Nah. Not til we otherwise. Whole lot more to throwing a football as quarterback than who can throw it further.......assuming JG can throw it further.

And you're kidding yourself if you don't believe Dormady is the leader in the clubhouse right now. Doug Mathews said that exact thing this morning. The race for starter surely isn't over and there's little doubt that both will play qb this year, certainly early on. But, if we had a game to play tomorrow, QD runs out there as starter.
