ESPN/Chris Mortensen report

Good find on that article. I love how they threw in there that Gruden does own land in Knoxville haha.

Morte......

It is funny a NFL reporter started to think the that Gruden rumor became something worth mentioning on ESPN. Sadly, Bucs just won, but so did Panthers, so we are still good, sort of......

I saw this on NFL Countdown. Mort concluded by dismissing Smith and Gruden, and surmising that Kiffin is the frontrunner.

He was pretty firm on Smith, but less firm on Gruden, though. In any event, I doubt anybody in the media has a complete hold on tall of this. Saban is the prime example.

If you do not like Al Groh, then stay away from Kelly. Both good coaches neither likes recruiting. Never was an issue for Kelly until now. It will hold him back from ever being big time college coach. UVA=Vandy it is just that simple--Have you ever looked at UVA's admission standards?

You constantly contradict yourself with half truths. Groh was considered a great recutiter by Virginia standards...#25 class in 2007, #19 class in 2005, #20 class in 2003, and the #12 class in 2002!!! It can be done there. Their admission standards for athletes are not nearly as hard to hurdle as Vanderbilt. Virginia committed itself to competing at a high level when Groh arrived....it just hasn't worked out. Sorry. Groh's stigma around that league is as a good recruiter but a boneheaded coach. His classes have really started to fall off lately but thats because that shiny NFL resume is starting to lose its luster!

I grew up watching ACC football and spent half my college years in Virginia surrounded by Cavs fans. They do not look at their sports like Vanderbilt and do not want to.

Tell me.....how do you know Kelly dislikes recuiting? How on earth can you judge his recuiting ability by two 3 years stints at Central F'ing Michigan and Cincinatti? Do you really think you can bring in top 20 classes at these schools? Given 2 more years at Cinci I wouldn't be surpised if he did bring in a top 20 class however. The more he wins there the better recruiting will get. It has already improved since he's gotten there.

UVA has great academic standards for students...not student athletes. I grew up in Virginia and I have more than enough friends at UVA who would all say that they IQ of their athletes is pretty awful. Duke, Stanford, Boston College, Vanderbilt, and aNotre Dame are pretty much the only D-1 schools in which you have to be pretty close to the student body average in terms of academics to gain admission and then play.

Generally Big Names are good coaches. You do not become an NFL HC or OC/DC by being bad at what you do. They are better at Xs and Os then Kelly I guarantee you that and Kelly is a joke at recruiting. Kelly equals disaster. Historically, NFL guys can recruit when they come down to College based on the NFL name they bring with them. And Xs and Os wise again if they survived in the NFL they are better at Xs and Os and making guys better than 90 percent of the guys in college.

You have ZERO clue about what your talking about. Fill me in on why he is a joke recruiter? This is not even because I am obviously biased either. I just want to call you out on a ridiculous statement.

He inhereted a team with classes no better than 70 the 3 years prior to him taking over. His first class was in the 50s and it is currently 40 something...if you know anything about Cincy football (which, I assume you do not) that's pretty impressive.

Jewbaccah just wants a big named NFL coach. If he would just be honest and say that, then that would be one thing. But when he goes out of his way to make ridiculous attacks on Kelly (and simultaneously prop up Al Groh), he loses all credibility.

Well here is an idea. Let UVA fire Groh and hire Kelly. That will be fun. It is a new ACC and UVA will be lucky to ever see the top again. Cincy's recruiting jump is more explained by being in the Big East now then anything else. He is losing to the guys in his own conference in recruiting. Yet, he is a good coach. What does it mean?

I have never denied I want a big name which is likely to be an NFL guy. I think I have said it repeatedly. I have no problem attacking Kelly because I am 100 percent certain he is a bad hire for UT. At other schools a guy who loves to coach and win but hates recruiting might work but not here. I do not think Groh is awesome nor do I want him here but he has done a good job at UVA. It is a new playing field in college football. And the ACC in particular is getting tougher. UVA could do better than Groh but there is always someone better. Can they land him though. My attacks on Kelly are not ridiculous by any means. They are objective. It is what others have said but I am louder. Go ask recruits and players how he recruits and you will have all the answers you need.

Where do you get your info from? He hates to recruit?

Well, I have no source for something as strong as hate but I stand by it as probable from what I know of people. My info on him comes from blogs maybe not reliable but blogs of his old teams and some Michigan state blogs. The review is this he puts up with no crap as a coach. He tells players how it is and is very direct. He is a drinker and has received multiple DUIs. He basically recruits tirelessly but at the same time has attitude with recruits if they get cocky. HMM-our 5 star recruits would never be like that and with the spotlight at Tenn if he drinks he will not be able to keep it quite. Maybe this all not true but I doubt it. So come on back and say it ain't so and my sources blow. But, why would we need to take a risk on this guy? He has a 2 million buy out as well so we would have to pay for him to. No thanks
