Eat right, Run..bike..work out..swim..yoga..and die anyway. What’s your health and workout plan

I imagined an event that combined sporting clays and mountain biking. Competitors ride mountain bikes between shooting stations, carrying their shotguns and ammo with them. Like biathlon, it’s part race, part shooting competition. Of course, I’m too old now to do it…

Edit: If carrying a shotgun and ammo over a mountain biking course or setting up shooting stations prove too problematic, one could combine sporting clays with cross terrain cycling.

Skipped the leg curls again so I can run a little tonight. Did everything else though. I had a little bit of degraded performance but I had a rough night of sleep and a fairly stressful 3.5 hour meeting today so I'll just blame that.

At home I do Jessica Smith DVDs which include steady cardio, HITT, strength training, and yoga/pilates workouts. I did some of her YouTube stuff the past couple days in SD, but the place we are staying in ND has a treadmill. This morning I started out walking and said WTH, let's try running. I've always hated running and cramp easily when I do, so I just never do it. I surprised myself and lasted 45 minutes. I suppose having a regular workout routine helps you with all sorts of exercising! 💪

4 miles on the tread this morning 28:48. Felt rough the first mile and started feeling better as I went along. Increased speed each mile up to 3 miles and then from 3.5 to 4 increased speed each .10
I somehow ran two days in a row. 😄 I'm not anywhere near this speed, but you inspired me to increase a little bit of speed each little bit towards the end.

Today’s yard work was a work out. The September drought has left the clay soil hard and dry, but fall landscaping cannot wait. I dug out a ~600 square foot area, cleared it of white hydrangeas and weeds, broke up the top 6-8” of soil with a spade, hit it with the tiller until the clumps were churned into soil, mixed in some garden soil, and planted it with fescue. About five hours all together. Had to move some big stones. If I don’t get rain, the water bill is going to be high.

Hi all.

I'm currently in shape and weight lift.

However, I hate running!

I want to find something to do to keep me in good cardiovascular health that isn't boring.

I've been thinking about BJJ or Muay Thai or joining a tennis league.

I'm 41 now.

Anyone do BJJ, Muay Thai, or play in adult tennis leagues?Any other ideas?

Not sure where you are located but I know there are adult tennis leagues out there.

I’m a BJJ black belt. Have trained mma as well as boxing and multiple other striking arts. I will tell you this…..they all became injury problematic about 45 years old. I’m 56 now and it’s all body weight, heated yoga and running now.
The key for me getting over the boring part of running was meditation while running.

Have you considered trail running or rucking? I enjoy both, but I almost always take my dog. Win, win.

I also have a Peloton bike and enjoy those rides when the weather isn't great, especially in the winter or blazing hot summer days.

Thanks for the advice and I know how you feel about injuries and boring.

Daily, I do a 25 minute flexibility/mobility routine, i do either HIIT or running, and I lift weights.

I guess I just miss doing competitive things and golf just isn't cutting it for me. I crave something more exciting.

I was just hoping to find something to fill that running and/or HIIT gap with something I could get better at and compete a little at.

I do like rucking when I go on hikes. I have a ruck weight I always put in my backpack.

I'm not familiar with Peloton. I'll look into it. Thanks!
