Dump Bama

That's right. If bammer moves into the East, then the other teams in the East will have to play them evey year just like we do. So our loss to bammer would not hurt us in the East race, if the other teams also have that loss. Right? First thing we do is start beating Scar and KY on the regular, while going toe to toe with the others and taking our share, again.
I can't think of a single time in the last 15 years that losing to Bama cost us the division.

Since 2008 we've been a little bit less good at football. I've noticed this, has anyone else???

That’s the point.

Why is the concern Alabama at a time when sweeping Vandy and Kentucky in the same year has proven difficult?

The way some people post, it’s as if Tennessee sweeps Florida and Georgia every year, but misses out on the SEC title game because they have to play Alabama.

Oh hell folks...If all you want to do is "lower the losses"...How's about we petition to simply move The University of Tennessee Football program into the Southland conference..?? I think we have a pretty good shot against those powerhouse programs.
I doubt that the Abilene Christian Wildcats will dominate the Vols...of course...ya never know.

Until the University of Tennessee gets a Board of Trustees and and Administration that believes it's important to have a strong football program, the Vols will never return to the success of the early Fulmer years. Alabama had a short stretch where they hired a succession of losers but they took it seriously enough to spend the money necessary to hire the best coach in the business. Our University continues to think it's more important to build nicer facilities than it is to put a product in those facilities. When you add in the higher expectations on academics which makes it more difficult to recruit some athletes to the school, you put the program at a disadvantage.

I'm not saying the football program has to be a priority to the University. Education is the goal. However, when a school hires a succession of losers like Kiffin, Dooley, Butch, and Pruitt: Football is obviously not a priority. Hopefully, Heupel is the answer but his track record does not suggest that he can lead a school back to SEC prominence. Tennessee again, settled for a lesser product. We've sat around and watched the university turn the football program into Ole Miss.

I saw a stat that said in the last 50 years, Tennessee has beaten Alabama 15 times. Regardless of the schedule, Tennessee has not been competing with Alabama for at least the last 10-12 years. Only 2 or 3 of those games have even been competitive. I'm not as concerned about whether or not we schedule them as I am whether or not we are going to at least compete with them.

I want to play the best year in and year out as it is a measuring stick.

There is no mystery at this time why we are bad; however, that can be fixed with some good coaching and time.

Is it fun to beat MTSU? Is it fun to beat UTC?

I don't think so, now is it fun to be Bama, Auburn, Florida or Georgia? My answer is yes and yours should be too.

Do we have the correct coach now, I don't know until we give him a chance.

All I can say is that if you want to run from anybody you need to just say you want to leave the SEC as there is no reason to fear anyone, because when our house is in order we can beat everyone.

Nick Saban will eventually give it up, he is 69 years old. Many of you guys don’t remember how many times it took for bama to get the right guy as head coach before they hired Saban. When Saban retires they will return to being very beatable.
. Yea but he will leave them in great shape. Their next coach will inherit a loaded roaster and can coast on that talent for the first two or three seasons. He will probaly play a big part in picking their next coach.

We aren’t beating Bama anytime soon the losing streak will hit 20 games. It’s not competitive and not fun to watch losing 45-10 or worse every season. Yea we currently have 4 game losing streaks to Georgia and Florida but at least some of those games have been kinda competitive and close unlike the Bama games. Tennessee would be better served by ending the series.

If the conference is expanding, we need to dump Alabama as an annual opponent. I know you traditionalist will give all kinds of reasons not to do this, but it’s a new world. I’m not talking about running away I’m talking about being smart. They would rotate on the schedule anyway, so make this about Tennessee, not about tradition.

I don't really like what you say (because I guess I'm one of your traditionalists), but I do agree with you . But as I see it, very likely ALL annual opponents will be dropped. (cross divisions that is). Really hate to see this happen, one of the things I have always liked about our conference is covered in it's name (SOUTH EASTERN COFFERENCE). Always a backyard fight with a neighbor, from teams, to across state lines to across back yard fences, to coffee tables at a gathering place in the early morning, yes, even living rooms!! Most younger folks say this is progress, well, in my 79+ years I have seen MUCH progress in ever walk of life. Have liked some of it and disliked a lot of it. But getting use to progress takes time for each change. Just hope to be here to observe and suffer with this change on the horizon for my beloved SEC.

I would venture to guess that if we had been hanging with AL, even winning every couple of years, this wouldn't be a topic. For that reason alone, I'm against it. Whether it is or isn't, it gives the appearance of running away. GBO!!

What is most likely to happen is that the East picks up both Bama and Auburn, and Missouri, Texas and Oklahoma fight it out in the West. Missou and Oklahoma rivalry becomes huge again, because Eli will have that team competing with the big boys. So, that is good they move out of the West. Then every East team also has to play Bama, so that helps Tennessee.

Well if what you say comes to pass (and I feel you are right) we will be back to nearly the old time SEC and SWC. If this happens will the conference have an identity? I feel the press and fans will see this alignment as two different conferences because there will not be enough games in football to build cross division rivalries. To me, it will be like things are now. Like every now and then we play a team from another top conference. I could see teams not playing each other more than once every 8-10 years. Now in other sports where many games can be played, this may not be too bad a situation.

The staff, the staff, what will become of the staff? Yes Satin is the strong influence on recruiting and running the show. But his staff makes it work. Herein will be the wild card. His iron fist control over his program and even the fanbase, the press, and to some extent the SEC will be hard to replace. These are things that make Bama what it now is and was under THE BEAR.

This was a rivalry game when I was at UT. Since that time it has been a one-sided proposition, we beat the crap out of them or visa-vera. The choices made by both administrations have made it doubtful that we will ever be competitive again. They have reached the highest possible level while we have dug ourselves into a deep hole. Forcing a game with them annually when they are in the opposite side of the conference is lunacy.
