Doug Matthews Roasting the AD hiring process

According to Hyams on 104.5 the Zone this morning, UTK has already lost at least three six figure (or more) donors over this and they've had Manning calling major boosters to try and stop the bleeding.

That happened pretty early on.

One critical criteria that appears to have been overlooked in this hiring is a figure that could unite. If anything it appears they went the opposite direction on that.

its just another example of this backstabbing admin, when good coaches have no interest or dont come in the future...remember this. they will.
Bones Never Lie.

THIS is the truth!

The good/great coaches do not want to come into an administrative tug-o-war for control. They want the "pencil-necks" to shut up and stay out of their deal. And the successful programs in college football have administrations who do that...Bama, Clemson, FSU, OK, OSU, Michigan, USC, etc...etc...etc...

We had that for a while when Dickey was AD and the University Pres stayed out of it....I don't know what it's gonna take to get back to that...

Fulmer mentioned the existence of these types of problems after his termination...and I certainly believe that they do still exist. Davenport is just the latest turd in the colon at UT. We'll never be competitive until this administrative crap gets flushed.... :salute:

When Florida beat us 10-9 a few years back, we talked in the parking lot after the game. He said that was the worse skilled Florida team he had ever seen come into Knoxville. We missed a great opportunity to kill the streak then.

Amen to that...you don't have to be in the know or even an ex-coach to know those facts about that Muschamp-coached UF team....

And Muschamp's USCe team that beat us last year was WORSE than that Fla team.....

One of the reason's I'm off the CBJ train....

Oh look, another thread about someone not liking the AD hire. Who gives a flying monkey's ass? It's over with! The fans and the media need to move on and let Currie do his job. Blackburn wasn't hired. He would have been great but Currie has a chance to be great too. No reason for constant whining over something that's already been done.

No smart business man is going to hire someone less qualified for the job intentionally.

Currie was more qualified for the position, Blackburn could have been good.

But Currie had him beat in every category, this was a no brianer hire over Blackburn or Fulmer.

agreed. i think they knew they could check a two boxes...P5 experience and he has TN ties. and hoped that'd be enough.

maybe it will be over time. just a bit salty right now. this thing took on a life of its own, and i still blame the administration as a whole for allowing this thing to become the debacle it turned out to be in the media, on social media, and for Fulmer and Blackburn individually.

it could have all been avoided by simply not announcing Hart's retirement back in August.

At the end of the day all that matters is that they got the best guy they could get. I think there are plenty questions regarding success on that end at this point. The managing of the situation was a debacle from the beginning. And they deserve what ever level of scrutiny they get for that part. This come down to what 1 man wanted.

Currie has his work cut out for him.

How exactly is folk posting here on Vol Nation keeping Currie from doing his job?

All this BS and "news" of this kind needs to be back in politics. Getting tired of the he said, I think, I know more than anyone else comments on this subject. Things are what they are with this issue. They aren't gonna change. Whether we agree with the hire or not, some of us need to quit trying to be sour grape protesters like we see on the political front all over the country. They aren't doing anything that is helpful AND NEITHER IS THIS BS..

Amen! !!!preach on my friend! It's been awhile since I was on here.I like positive attitudes and not negative.

Ok, you're hiring someone to run a $100 million business.

Do you:
1) Hire a former employee who was good at sales but never ran a company
2) Hire a former employee who has run a company of about $10 million
or
3) Hire one who has run one of $70 million for about 6 yrs?

The answer is the same; doesn't matter if its building houses, selling lemonade on the corner or running an athletic dept. The best business decision is you hire the person with the best resume, most experience and demonstrated track record vs the unknown.

If the economy is zooming, the Sales Department gets to be in charge. When the economy is tanking, the Accounting Department gets to be in charge.

Still a terrible analogy.

They've had 9 months to make a good hire and failed miserably.

Jimmy Haslam is a wonderful representative of Tennessee! He owns the best gas station chain in America and has the Cleveland Browns on the move to greatness! You will see - they will finally land that QB in the draft!
Currie was a wonderful decision. He is an excellent fundraiser and will keep our university squeaky clean! :) I liked Blackburn and Fulmer very much, but Currie came from a Power 5 conference after serving as an AD. That is all that needs to be known! Look at KSU today - strong! We will soon be as strong as our brothers and sisters in Manhattan! Mark my words, or my name isn't Pumpin That Shine! :good!:

In regards to Currie, I'm trying to understand why having ruffled feathers from his previous stay is a bad thing.
