Doug Mathews says Pruitt has made OC Choice

If Mathews is correct, perhaps Pruitt has his guy but is waiting until after the playoffs to announce so it is not a distraction to a team. There are only 4 teams playing for anything that truly matters so it should not matter if it is a coach not in the playoff.

It is possible that it is an NFL guy too. If so, we may have to wait 3 more weeks, or longer, if he coaches on a playoff team.

I’m not sure why it would matter if they announced an NFL guy or not so I think it is someone coaching for one of four college teams.

Or it really is a cluster**** and they are scrambling to find someone which means Pruitt could eventually play it safe and promote Friend or Osevet.
Don’t know if that would be good for ESD

Taggart wont make it another year

Oh absolutely not, hes way out of his depth down here. I'm in Orlando and the Seminole fans hate him with a passion. It was a miserable year for them.

I wonder if Briles is positioning himself to slip in as interim and possibly new head coach knowing Taggart won't make it. I was hoping with Pruitt interviewing Briles brother in law at UCF (maybe a position coach?) that would signal Pruitt was serious about bringing Briles in at all costs.......but if he shut down Briles because of his loyalty to Friend I would say Pruitt and Taggart will have the same demise in the next year or 2.

Taggert, like Malzahn is likely a dead man walking. That being said I still don't think any of the following would be bad hires:

Osovet
Lebby
Probst
Kitchens
Cooter
Briles (long shot now)
Yurcich (also could be a long shot)

A lot of you would turn up your nose at some of these. Nearly EVERY hot name OC out there started somewhere like a DII, JUCO. or even High School. No one knows how ANY of these will respond to SEC football. However, most of the posters in the whiny crowd don't like CURRENT SEC guys like Enos, Chaney, Longo, etc. The other thing I'm not seeing here is a lot of concern among recruits, UT even getting a second look by guys committed or leaning elsewhere. Honestly it appears most people have to know for their own personal reasons instead of the best interests of UT football.

He MAY be a very good OL coach. We dont know that yet.

Sure, 7 years of proven history doesn't mean squat lol. He was the highest paid assistant in the country for a reason. He did great at uga and csu.

Hell, he just improved the OL by a small bit when 1) everyone knew it would be 1 of our 2 main weak spots this year, 2) we lost 3 veteran OL, 3)then Kennedy, 4) then Trey (and he was never right after a missed offseason), 5) ALL WHILE changing schemes and after losing a year of s&c. Good lawdie! And a fair amount of the missed blocks were by RBs and poor protection changes, not just the ol.

The fact that he could even improve our stats despite all that was going against him is very impressive in itself. Give him 1 year of continuity and I expect success just as he has had at his last 2 spots.

He is well respected throughout the industry for a reason.

Yea we do. His lines have excelled everywhere he’s been. At worst, he joins the long line of elite coaches who excel numerous places, fails here, then excels again.

Like I said, no we dont know if he is going be good here. He could be just like Shoop. Thanks for making my point.

Shoop was bery well respected as well. Success everywhere he went. Except for TN. I am all for giving Friend time. And I surely do hope he turns this OL around. But, until it actually happens, nobody can say with any certainty, that he will be any good here. Thats my only point. His past means nothing right now.

Whoa whoa whoa WHOA!!! Common sense will not be accepted or tolerated here sir. If you don’t have a pitchfork in your hand and aren’t bashing the staff over rumors that have been proven wrong time after time after time then you have no place here.

Disregard all past, proven history. Fine.

He still did everything last year as mentioned. The fact that he could even improve us, despite every single factor against him, is pretty good. This year will be year 2 in scheme and s&c and he isn't losing anyone. Barring a rash of injuries, I expect a very nice jump in production. Roast him all you want if he fails this year, but last year he did all that could be expected of him.

Given his past success, he should be given the benefit of the doubt, not the railing here so many give him because they know nothing of his history.

Side note: most say, and Shoop's words this year support, that much of his UT failure was due to HC intervention and not allowing him to hire his own coaches.

I agree with you, I was just thinking propst in state championship game dec 12th; and in Knoxville on the 13th. Plus it explains why he is keeping it quiet, knowing he has him. Again just my opinion.

I agree but I have a feeling it will be Probst. Leaks on Thursday, Announced Friday.
