Dormady's playing time.

It crazy to me that people think a QB who has never taken a snap in a College game will be the guy who leads this team if our "proven winner" junior QB can't.

I remember a guy named Ferguson that was going to be the next great QB at Tennessee. How many snaps did he take at QB?

Dormady will have to be ready incase of injury and the coaches want to make sure he is, but if Dobbs goes down the season expectations will have to be adjusted. 8+ wins becomes more like 6. I do believe that Jones has learned his lesson though…………………if Dormady isn't effective look for S. Jones to get snaps this year as well.

:lolabove: Of course...you couldn't hold out huh? No flaming. :eek:k:

I agree with you on Ferguson. He is proof that anything can happen. According to the coaches he was who they wanted to start last year, over Dobbs. He had the arm talent they wanted, and showed the most promise. But he, as we all saw publicly, had a head full of crap and an entitlement mentality.

I've not said bench Dobbs, or that Dormady is the next Peyton. I do think he has a lot of things going for him developmentally, and his potential is sky high. When he plays, he will be farther along than when Dobbs first stepped in as a freshman. The one thing you cannot argue is that the coaches, at least in what they say, tend to agree. The quote from Coach Jones yesterday makes it crystal clear....Dormady will play, early and often. He even alluded to tailoring the playcalling to his particular attributes.

I reiterate....Dobbs having a good season is the surest way for the Vols to have a good season. This team follows his leadership. That is key. But I believe past experience, and Jones track record with QB's demonstrates that Dormady will get his opportunity sooner than later.

I love it....Dormady won't unseat Dobbs, but if he does Jones will unseat Dormady. Obviously, QD doesn't fit the "system".

Consistency at its finest.

Which "coaches"? The ones that had Ferguson 4th string and falling after the O&W Game or the ones that stifled yawns when it was announced that he was no longer with the team? Dobbs has shown us what he can do on the field and the "coaches" tend to notice such things. Stop the madness and tone down the crazy. Dormady will learn and get some noncrucial time snaps. If he and Dobbs get the slightest dinged up, we'll see a little Sheriron for the same purpose. Butch ain't coaching scared, people.

Yes...those coaches. The ones that came out in the media afterwards and said the plan was to start Ferguson last year, but he wouldn't take it. This was a public admission last season.

@rockytop_news: "We need to get Quinten Dormady some valuable repetitions early. He's earned those reps. He's a very talented young man." - Coach Jones 9/2/15

I direct you to the words "valuable and early".

So they're not going to wait until the end of the season to get our BACKUP QB some reps, and you read QB controversy? You passed the delusional exit about a mile back. :loco: And ONCE AGAIN which coaches said that they were going to start Ferguson? Didn't happen but conjure up a quote. You said "media"...blogs don't count.

I never said anyone was getting unseated. If Dobbs gets hurt and Dormady comes in and is ineffective we may see S. Jones this year as well.

Hopefully this doesn't play out and Dobbs just stays healthy all year.

I never said QD doesn't fit the system, but not everyone has the "It" factor we will see if QD does or not if he gets a shot. But the bottom line is more QB don't have it then do have It. I don't care as long as we win who takes the snaps but we can't put any of our eggs in a #2or #3 Qb's basket if we plan on really competing this year. We are not as lucky as Ohio State. I hope that we have 3 QBs that are as talented as theirs but that isn't very likely. I just hope that we have atleast one QB that is that talented.

Yes but that could mean early in the season not early in the first game. And I would agree if there is even the slightest thought Dobbs could miss any time the more valuable reps he gets the better we will be. But to think that we won't miss a beat with Dormady at QB like some have said on here is just not realistic expectations for a freshman QB. Lets be honest about that.

They didn't shut down his ability to run....Like Missouri and Vanderbilt.

When he can move and extend plays he's dangerous. When he can't...well maybe he is, and maybe he isn't.

I like the guy, and hope he excels. He's our best chance at a great season.

Dobbs played well enough against Missouri last year. He wasn't great, but was hardly the reason we didn't move the ball well to start off. He was one of the few reasons we were still in the game. They didn't really open the playbook til the fourth quarter and he made some outstanding plays then. Vandy he was off.

Easy man....I never....ever....said controversy, and have gone to great pains to express otherwise. We need Dobbs to do well, he's a leader, and a gamer. We are not as good without him...at this time. I've never said anything otherwise. Speaking well of Dormady, is no slight on Dobbs.

On Ferguson, at the time he left, it was in print and on TV. He didn't go in ahead of Dobbs because of a stress fracture. When he got healthy he expected to start, didn't, and got his feeling hurt. Headed into the fall he was splitting reps with Worley. I'm sure I can find a quote for you, and may do so this evening when I'm not at work.

Never said he was why we lost. I mentioned it due to it being an example of a coaching staff planning and neutralizing what had made him effective in previous games. Their defense made it hard on him.

Go listen to the press conference. That was not what Butch was saying....but it doesn't really matter.

Good grief.

Eagerly anticipating said evidence...I was an early proponent of Riley...thought he had that IT. Any valid verification of such, and I would have snapped it up...I was REALLY LOOKING. There was none. What you're discussing is called CONJECTURE here in the real world. Projecting our wishful thinking onto "valid sources". My only solace in being wrong about who our eventual starter would be, is that I kept an open mind. I wasn't in a hurry to be right. All of the "RF would have started his true freshman year if he hadn't been injured" is fanciful speculation...there are no quotes from the coaching staff so rest after work...we'll need you for the season.

You're selective interpreting a couple of words...and basing this wild scenario off of them...try harder. :mega_shok:

JONES (on QBs):We are balancing repetitions. Justin & Riley have taken more reps and they will continue to. Nate & Josh continue to progress

"Jones' comments last week suggest that he's comfortable with what Worley brings to the table, but thinks that Ferguson has more upside.

For Ferguson, a former 3-star prospect from Matthews, N.C., getting a higher proportion of reps is huge for his development. If he can develop the consistency that Jones is looking for, he'll likely win the job."

What wild scenario? I've predicted nothing. I've only repeated what the coaches have said, all the while saying that we need Dobbs to play well this year.

Are you high?

Was going to ask you the same thing after your wild of interpretations of Butch's coachspeak...but I don't plagiarize, so how about When you fell on your head, did it POP OPEN? :fool:

What did I say that strayed AT ALL from what coach Jones said.....and what wild scenarios am I envisioning? Seriously man, I've been very consistent in what I've said.

None of this is what I asked for and not even close to what you promised. Where are the quotes FROM THE COACHES where they said that Riley would have started over Dobbs? I wasn't asking Sallee's opinion...good writer but his OPINION isn't what you promised. Come back when you've completed your assignment. :pardon:

Nothing that you've quoted from BUTCH JONES supports your wild conjecture that Dobbs is on a short leash. It does show faith in his BACKUP QB and addresses what is needed to develop him. Pretty standard stuff.
