Dormady v. Guarantano

Now you're gonna tell me what I've heard with my own damn ears over and over again on the radio?

So when I heard Jayson Swain, Seth Stokes, Daniel Lewis, Houston Kress, Jimmy Hyams, Erik Ainge, John Brice, Doug Mathews and Brent Hubbs all at different times say that not only does Dobbs need to get more accurate and more consistent throwing the ball, but that in fact QD throws a better, more accurate football than Dobbs, you're now telling me that I didn't actually hear what I thought I heard when I was in my car, either listening to the radio or listening to their apps on my iPhone, driving down the road? Is that about right right? Your arrogance knows no bounds champ.

QD is a better pure passer while Dobbs is the better athlete.

Dobbs has a very strong arm. Just not a very accurate arm. At the Open Practice in August, he and the other qbs (and Pig, lol) were having a contest to see who could hit the goalpost crossbar from the furthest distance. Dobbs last couple of throws went 60+ yards. Plus, we've seen him make plenty of throws in games with a lot of zip. His arm is plenty strong.

Everybody who has seen them practice has said this is true, and, by extension, everybody who has read/listened to those credible sources knows it to be true. There are just a few posters on here who refuse to acknowledge it for whatever reason.

I believe Dobbs has very strong arm. Believe on a long sideline pass he does not drop a dime that is a 60/40 battle pass, with advantage is to receiver . Because DB has to keep eye on receiver and on the throw from over their shoulder. Bamas QB threw that pass a lot and their Freshman wide out battled DB's for it all year and won even against us. Dobbs throws high velocity with not right trajectory (flat). Worely threw a good 60/40 pass but did not have time to set up most of time. See some of North's freshmen catches, may be part of reason North bolted.

KB no one that has praised Dormady said he was a better passer. They just praised him. They also have praised Dobbs. They did say Dobbs needs to be more consistent. He does. They haven't said in their praise that Dormady passes better than Dobbs. You may be interpreting Dormady praise as him being a better passer. They have not said head to head he is a better more consistent passer. He hasn't even had a chance to show he is. Link any source where someone says head to head Dormady is a better passer. Not an interpretation of someone's words.

His arm strength is good don't get me wrong. I just don't feel its quite as strong as QD's or Jones was. From what I have seen of JG, he has a freaking cannon. I could be wrong though. I am definitely no expert when it comes to these things. And that is not a knock on Dobbs, because I really like him. Not every QB has tremendous arm strength.

The answer to the question is a function of how the recievers perform. If we keep getting what we have been getting for the last 2 years, G will have to start to give the team the ability to work the field. If our recievers ball out an start becoming a serious threat, D wins the job.

The few, and to our credit it's only about two, who make this about race need to pound sand. I can guarantee 99.99% of this board will embrace anyone who can lead us to the promise land.

Guarantano will be the successor to Dobbs. His skillset is a better match for the offense.

He's the starter opening game 2017.

Agreed. I have watched his HS highlights and the kid is ridiculous, he plays on a different level. Unlike Dobbs he throws very accurate down the field, and looks as fast or faster than Dobbs.

Dobbs was over a 70% passer his JR/SR years of high school. It doesn't always translate to the SEC.

Barrett Sallee actually went out of his way on Finebaum this past week to say that Dobbs isn't actually the problem it's the receivers that are the problem. He said that with quite a bit of conviction as well.

That's because he's a smart guy.

Alot of folks will be looking like idiots next fall when it comes to Dobbs passing.

He's got the skill to be the best QB in the country.

Omg....people are always assuming the next hot shot QB coming in "must" be better than our #2. Dormady is a stud. His passing game will be off the charts (wait and see). Those who think we have to have a Dobbs type QB in this system are simply wrong. I love Dobbs...but his mobility is the "only" reason he's our starter...that's his strength. I mean face it...his throw game is average AT BEST! (again..I love the guy, but..). I think some will be pleasantly surprised at what Dormady brings to the field. And yes...he's mobile enough to still keep defenses honest. Jerrett will get his shot, but it will not be next year. He WILL NOT trump Dormady as our back up.

The same way people thought Dormady should have came in and started last year? Jarrett is Redshirting so Dormady is safe as the back-up atleast in 2016.

CBJ plays 2 QB by midseason.

Only in MOp up time, no way he risks the best team Tennessee has had in 15 years, on the back of an unknown QB like Dormady. He'll go with the known Commodity Dobbs. Only time we see Dormady is when we ar up big 3 scores or in mop up time.

No offence but this evaluation is pure silliness. QD has thrown a total of 22 passes. In that limited time, he has showed a stronger arm than Dobbs. Butch did not let him throw very much. I have read where people have talked highly about QD. I know Dobbs will be the starter this year, but it wouldnt shock me to hear a report coming out of spring saying QD seriously pushed Dobbs for the job.

Butch Jones will not allow that to even surface, true or not. I don't believe that Dormady will push Dobbs for the job at all other than the standard of Competition tha Butch loves. Dobbs is the starter until he proves he can't lead us to victory. Sorry for Dormady but 2017 will be the only QB competition he gets to participate in.

Wrong routes and Drops have been as much a problem as bad throws. Dobbs should be frustrated not the Receivers, they aren't living up to their potentials by any means, 4*-5* receivers they are not....
