Dormady v. Guarantano

There's a reason he's projected as a 2nd round pick and is considered behind Elliot in the RB rankings.

Henry is not a great prospect at RB.

I think you put way too much stock in the NFL experts. These are the same guys who thought Ryan Leaf should be drafted above Peyton Manning and also thought Vince Young was a can't miss prospect.

Seriously though, how in the world can you discount Henry and say he is only a product of the system? The system has been the same there for many years and Henry is by far the best they've had and has broken records that stood for a long time.

Yes, a mediocre player can look better in a good system surrounded by other great players - but to say that for a Heisman winner who broke long standing records is just plain silly.

This sounds right. I remember during the North Texas game that Josh missed Jennings streaking down the middle of the field wide open for a sure TD. He threw the ball a second late and while he got a completion to the 1 yard line, the late throw caused Jauan to slow his momentum and the DB to catch up. If Josh threw it a second earlier he woulda hit Jauan in stride for an easy TD.

Josh left a lot of plays like that on the field last year. I expect him to convert those this upcoming season.

Dobbs will be the best QB in the SEC.

Ole Miss QB enter the draft?

He's listed at 6'2 210....of course you just eyeballed him and came up with him being "barely 6'0"...lol. Meanwhile, Watson isn't very tall either while Josh is actually taller than UT lists him according to you.

And if you "just don't see it" then you clearly don't know what to look for. The kid threw for 4,000+ yards and 31 tds and ran for 500 yards and another 10 tds. Meanwhile, while you discount every other qb's ACTUAL stats, you just keep telling us about the stats you just pull out of your imagination that Dobbs will put up next year as "proof" he'll run away with the Heisman. Jeez D4H, you gotta give a better effort than that....too many double standards killing any credibility you might've had.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. No amount of statistical production is gonna make me thing Kelly is a great player.

Just as I've been driving the Dobbs hype train even with pedestrian stats.

FYI just because I'm predicting greater statistical production for Dobbs next year doesn't mean I don't think he's great right now. I've been CONSISTENT in saying Dobbs has elite talent. He just needs to continue to develop just as every other great prospect does.

I would like to see JG redshirt next year and Dormady be good enough to lead the team for two years. If he isn't then JG would have four years of eligibility after Dobbs.

You've been very consistent and on one level it's to be admired. But on another, it has to be rooted in some reality and objective measurement. Also, I don't understand the concept of only being able to compliment and praise Tennessee players and coaches. There are simply other coaches, other players that are better than our guys and it doesn't diminish our guys by saying so/stating the obvious. I'm a Tennessee homer but I'm not a Tennessee sycophant. For example, I love Jalen Hurd, think he's a great running back and am thrilled he's a Vol....but I don't think he's the best back in the country or conference. That's not a slight on him, just the truth.

I'm not high on every vol or think they're superior to other teams players. I was attacked a few weeks ago for saying I would trade any wide receiver on our roster (including Preston Williams) for Antonio Callaway or Christian Kirk. I was attacked for this. Primarily by dudes that love Preston Williams.

I'd trade Barnett (as much as I love him) for Myles Garrett. But nobody else. I'd trade TKjr for Jamal Adams. Cam Sutton for Jalen Ramsey (if he was still at school). And so on.

There are just 2 players on our team I wouldn't trade for anyone in the country. Dobbs at QB. And Hurd (to a lesser degree) at RB. As my name suggests I'm 100% sold on Dobbs coming greatness. On Hurd, I switch everyday on whether I prefer him to Cook or Fournette. Depending on which day you catch me, you might find a different answer. But that's how short I believe the list is for players I'd consider over Hurd. I'm that sold on how special he is.

How does anybody have any clue how this will play out? JG has loads of potential (and so does QD), but JG hasn't even taken his first snap in a practice. It is possible that neither ends up being JD's successor, although not likely. With that said, I'm putting my money on Dormady.

Henry is not a great prospect at RB.

He runs upright. Has skinny legs which allows smaller guys to tackle him easily. He lacks quickness and an explosive initial burst through the hole. He has stiff hips which results in a lack of agility and sudden change of direction.

That is why he's going in the 2nd round eventhough his stats say he's the best RB in SEC history.

JG red shirting has nothing to do with who wins the 17 QB position. And what if we are 9 or 10 and 0 and Dobbs goes down next year? Butch gona preserve that RS if JG is the best of the 3? QD may be the man, but I hope JG is the type of talent that he takes over Spring 17 like a boss. Hopefully he has a RS freshman year like Manziel or Jameis, that's the type talent I hope he is. Nothing against QD but I've seen enough to know he's not that type. As a fan who wants Cal El at QB, I'm pulling for JG.

My only qualm with this is "seen enough to KNOW he's not that type"..there's no way you could KNOW anything like that. And Jameis Winston was no athletic wunderkind at FSU...mobile pro-style QB. :hi:

Yea jury still out sure. he made some nice throws but seemed he struggled dealing with and getting away from pressure. Definitely feel we lose the run threat which I've grown fond of. I'm used to Dobbs trickery I guess. I grew up with Shuler, Manning, Clausen, Ainge when the real deal talents showed up on campus and took over in their true freshman year. From 91 to 07 those were our QBs except Tee's two years. Just kinda hoping JG is from that mold more than anything against QD.

Hope's great. Especially when paired with an open mind. Best QB will emerge and we have great candidates.

How lucky are we, Vol Nation, to be able to have this debate? When's the last time we had so much qb talent on campus and in the pipeline?

Dobbs, Dormady, Jones (welcome back, young man) and Guarantano could be the best qb group in the country. And let's not forget Trevor Lawrence, who will join QD, SJ and JG in a couple of years, may be the best of the bunch. Why do you think Hunter jumped ship = writing on the wall said go elsewhere to have a chance to see the field.

Enough can't be said for Coach Jones's prowess when it come to recruiting qbs!

May the best qb win. If the power T is on his helmet, I'm a fan.

Lol Butchna I was pretty much jumping around in here defending everything I clicked on. Poor JG was getting drilled by the Dormady love. I honestly think that if QD wins out, we are in damn good shape because he beat some great QBs. One thread has SJ going to reciever or db, as long as he isn't on the other team I'm good, can you imagine him instead of Treon this year 😱. In here it's JG sitting until like 2019. I'm damn glad he don't know about that. He would be visiting Columbus Saturday. And also glad we won't be seeing Dormady when we are playing against Bama next year. Our backups are guys we beat out Florida, Bama, and OSU over, good fight over here. Embarrassment of riches.

The Sheriron to another position bull is beyond ridiculous! That kid is going to play QB for us or somebody...well! :aggressive:

Tee would've if not for those two years behind Manning. He was prep AA and 5 star prospect by Athlon and Lemming. He was universally the #2 or or #3 QB behind Tim Couch and rated in the top 30 players in the country.

Tee Martin, quarterback of the national champion 1998 Volunteers, is really Tamaurice Nigel Martin of Mobile, Alabama. He was a Parade All-American and No. 1 prospect in his state as a prep senior.

Omg....people are always assuming the next hot shot QB coming in "must" be better than our #2. Dormady is a stud. His passing game will be off the charts (wait and see). Those who think we have to have a Dobbs type QB in this system are simply wrong. I love Dobbs...but his mobility is the "only" reason he's our starter...that's his strength. I mean face it...his throw game is average AT BEST! (again..I love the guy, but..). I think some will be pleasantly surprised at what Dormady brings to the field. And yes...he's mobile enough to still keep defenses honest. Jerrett will get his shot, but it will not be next year. He WILL NOT trump Dormady as our back up.

He runs the offence efficiently. He has made good throws on third down. He will be even better next year. He makes good decisions. He does a lot more than just run is my point. When he leaves everything that he did well will become evident.
