Dooley turning in at least five things to the SEC for review/clarification

... from his mistake for substituting players when there was no need to. Dooley or Wilcox, it doesn't matter, it's a blunder.

Should there have been a intentional grounding call against LSU, when it was 1st and goal with 36 seconds??? He threw the ball out of the endzone while under pressure and there was no receiver near. Just wondering.

Didn't lsu just appeal their game with wvu? My neighbor said lsu lost by two and appealed and won. Info from a corndog smelling lsu fan take it for what's it worth.

If the infamous "5 Downs" play from many years ago wasn't successfully appealed, nothing ever will be.

Bottom line on this situation is what everyone is saying. LSU was the ranked team playing at home, and for some reason, the officials went out of their way to give them every possible chance to win. Mission accomplished.

Everybody hates us, people want to see us down and they know we are on our way up and they can't stand it.

I would like to see evidence we are on our way up.

The espn hates us thing was sarcasm, espn doesn't hate us.

Our freshmen and sophmores make up most of our starters... We are playing Elite football....whether you want to agree or not we are..... We are going to be good in a couple of years give it time all teams hit bumps in the road, look at alabama they were down for a while but now back on top.

God all4vol
A positive post.
I knew you had it in you!

Granted theses are all noteworthy statements, but the bottom line is if the VOLS hold on 4th and 14 its all mute. Really 4th and 14 and give up a first down with 1:20 left on the clock. As i sat in my living room i kept saying...just one play...all you have to do is play defense for 1 play and its over. We didn't and the rest is the debacle we witnessed.

 Exactly!!! This year, we always drop back into the "prevent" on 3rd downs and get smoked! I know this was 4th down and long...so maybe it was the right call. But it seems like our secondary gives up some big plays when we need a stop.

Why don't we ever blitz??

So, an LSU fan makes a bee line for me at work this morning. I like the guy, but I'm still thinking "I don't want to hear it!!". He'd talked smack all week before the game. :)

He gets to me and sticks his hand out to shake hands. When I extend mine he says "I owe you an apology. Y'all won that game. Tennessee got screwed out of that win." He was completely sincere.

He proceeded to tell me his take on LSU/TN football since the 2005 game. We didn't stand a chance with the game being that close. We made the case for the refs and they ran with it. Sucks for us.

Maybe the SEC would consider it "over-officiating" to throw a flag for this.

I think the helmet toss was during play and the rushing of the field was after, but I would have to go back and watch it again.

I may be wrong, I'm not a complete rule expert, but the flags were thrown immediately by 3 refs in the defensive backfield as soon as the ball was snapped. Being a defensive penalty (illegal participation), it is not a dead ball foul. However, it is a "free play" for the offense as they have the opportunity to execute a play, or receive the automatic penalty afterwards. It was basically a dead play for the D, and a live play for the O. The question I have no answer for, and if seen/called properly is that the helmet toss would have been a dead ball foul, as the play ended when LSU did not execute the play, therefore activating the 13 man penalty. If called properly, I beleive LSU would still have gotten the non timed play, as a game cannot end on a penalty, but it should have been from a spot on the field farther away from the goal line, whether it be offsetting or marked off at full length, thereby changing the play calling and possibly reducing the odds of an easy score. With all the commotion the refs either ignored that if they saw it, or just didn't see it, as the botched snap took the play a different direction than where the player was that threw his helmet.

Yes. It was a dead ball foul, you are spot on. If they would have called the helmet toss, LSU would have played their un-timed down from the 15 and 1/2 yard line.

The ball was on the one, they move it half the distance to the goal for illegal participation, and then enforce the dead-ball penalty from that point. Putting it at the 15 and 1/2 yard line.

If you watch the replay you would see the ref in the right corner of the endzone coming in, it look like he was about to throw the flag but the camera turn.

OK... replaying that last down over and over.

LSU's center #53 (yellow circle) was standing at the 15 yard line pulling his helmet off.
The ball is still LIVE at the 17 1/2 which Nick Reveiz (blue circle) is about to pick it up.

At the same time Tennessee has 2 MORE men rushing on to the field (orange circle).... # 21 at the 19 yard line and # 74 at the 22 yard line. (Both are about 2 yards deep into the playing field already, so it was BEFORE the helmet toss.)

Now we have 15 men on the field. (plus 2 coaches at the 24 & 25 yard lines)

Therefore, LSU's helmet toss vs UT's excessive celebration (or whatever penalty you want to call it). Replay. LSU scores.

I'm more pissed about the none flag when Simm's helmet come flying off. That was at the 30 which would have put th ball about the 15. Even a fieldgoal would have given us 3 more pts (17), so at the end, we would have gone into overtime again.
