OK, I just checked the video, and it's the SAME play.
#11 hit Simms in the chest and somehow got twisted around while holding on to Simms' helmet.

1st quarter at the 8:46 mark on the clock.

I won't be able to upload it to my computer until later or tomorrow.

But according to the refs he was just honking his nose and didn't touch the face mask.

That one play in the first quarter is the only play I remember Simms getting hit and his helmet coming off.

I was saying that all yesterday. I thought it was one of the most obvious facemasks I had ever seen.

Going back to the point that Dooley & Staff turning in five points...the biggest is the one about the Vols weren't given proper time to respond to LSUs substitutions which he asked about several times during the game....

Rule 3-5, Article 2e in the NCAA rulebook for "adequate time"

"While in the process of substitution or simulated substitution Team A (LSU) is prohibited from rushing quickly to the lineof scrimmage with the obvious attempt of creating a defensive disadvantage".
If the ball is ready for play, the game officals will not permit the ball to be snapped until Team B (Vols)has placed substitutes in position and the replaced players have left the field of play. Team B (Vols) must react promptly with its substitutes"

Bottom line the refs should've held the play until both teams were ready but allowed LSU to continued.

They did call a facemask against LSU in which Poole was involved.

His helmet was almost turned sideways... so it was almost impossible for the refs to not call.

i dont recall one. my co worker is good with videos and stuff and he showed the replay of the last play of the game (the one where we had 13 men on) and u can see the tip of an lsu player not all the way off the field when the ball was snapped

I was panicking and I'm sure the entire sideline was panicking too. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt but there's no doubt it's something they are going to be working on this week at practice.

You only have to have to touch the sideline, not be completely past it.

Since they had problems with getting the right number of players on the field the week prior, why didn't they work on it last week?

When coaches make mistakes of this degree of incompetence, it's inexcusable.

The game is played with 11 men. It's not that difficult to understand. It's not the offense, but the defense that seems to have this counting problem.

The math is easier after the defense takes the field and has 11 players there. The number who enter should equal the number who exit. It's rare that the fingers on one hand are insufficient for the task required.

Good, if they mess up enough they will be suspended. I don't know if they did, but they are reviewed by the league and if they mess up enough they can be suspended.

I think being a lawyer helps....he knows better how to get things done. Talking with the media wont do anything. May make officials know they have to be on top of it in UT games.

What about UT #21 entering the field of play -without a helmet on - from the sideline at the exact same moment T-Bob threw his helmet? Is he going to ask why UT didn't get a flag for that?

Forget the year game was at UT Russell was LSU QB we took the ball away on a play on Lsu last drive ref gave ball back to LSU 2or3 weeks SEc office said UT was Right it was a fumble still a loss.

You are allowed to come from sideline without a helmet. You're just not allowed to REMOVE you helmet unless there is an equipment malfunction.

It goes to the notion of action vs. inaction

It did not change the game the other LSU game when we got the apology or the Memphis game when we got the apology but it does make us feel better.

What would make me feel a lot better is knowing that the incompetent SEC refs were permanently banned from making money from the conference officiating when they badly screw up.
