Does Dooley now gain respect?

Nobody has crowned anyone. We are talking about the game and how the team looked.
Don't go full drama queen.

I total agree!!! Just like all the rest of the negative fans which will be against him till he is gone then its the schools fault because they fired him!!! Be happy! Great Win! Great Start to the season and please remember Rome was not built in a day!!!

Agree.... That game was all downside for CDD. Win, and he was supposed to win so it was no big deal.. Lose, and the lynchmob would have started forming.

Talked to a lot of people in Atlanta. Some locals, some fans of other teams, Bruce pearl, dale Ellis, some boosters and fans that flew in from knoxville, and the everyday fans at the bar from @ noon until kickoff, along with our crew of @ 20.
Before the game, 100% agreed it was huge for DD and the program. Of course bigger games are coming, but its one at a time and that was huge. You don't want turmoil off the bat and the funk around the program that would come with it.

That's fine, but did you watch the game and not see a different attitude?
Like I said too, we will see.
It is odd that you like Pittsburghs hire and Chryst, and he loses to youngstown state. Double standard, imo, in regards to how you reacted to a DD bad loss and wouldve reacted with a loss Friday.

Paul Chryst is in his first year in his first game. Dooley is in year 3. Big difference. And I said it was a bad loss.

I did. I praised the team and the coaching staff for a fine performance Saturday night. I don't know about different attitude...we thought the same thing against Cincy and look what happened. But it was a very, very nice win.

We went up 13-7, then a safety, and the game was in control from there on.

It was 22-14 at half with a huge turnover against us. The game was over at the third, but far from over in the first half.

OP begging for respect after wins over ncsu suggests otherwise. I'm all for talking about the game and how good we looked. That, however, was not the intent of this thread.

Didn't say it was over. We controlled the end of the first quarter, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters, and stepped off the gas in the process. That's controlling the game. Has nothing to do with it being over or not.

Does the domination of NCST, a good team with a very good qb and one of the best db's in the NCAA by several of the "experts" give Dooley the win that finally brings him respect of the Volnation ?

I think it was a great win. TN looks the part of being a good football team for the first time in several years.

I also think our coaching staff is a major upgrade over last years staff.

I feel good about the program again. I give credit to Coach Dooley. He has brought integrity back to TN. I hope he has major success and our coach for many years to come.

GBO .

I agree with you. Hope Dooley is here for 20 plus years. If people knew football they would know he is a good coach. Even Nick Saban could not take the talent we have had the last few years and win with it. Dooley took the job when no one else wanted it. Because they knew we were a mess and they didn't want to take the time to rebuild us like Dooley has.

Depends on how you look at it. There would have been plenty of disrespect thrown his way with a loss. If that's the case, why does a w not bring the opposite?

Everybody knows we have to win more games. Stating the obvious is easy.

It wNt over, but it became pretty obvious that NC State wasn't going to slow our offense down much.

I thought we had control of the game, but I wouldn't say by much.

oh well. Doesn't matter.

I understand what you are saying, but being a good position coach doesn't automatically make one a good HC (see Muschamp to this point). It doesn't matter if he was the only one who would take the job. There's expectations that come with even our leprosy stricken program (to hear some talk).

Good first game. Many steps in the right direction. More steps to go. All I have ever asked was to see progression towards improvement. We saw that. Felt good about it. Lot's of football to go, and I hope we continue down the path we've started on this year. Time will tell, but we can all feel good about this week as fans. We will all reassess after this coming Saturday and each following game. The first step is often one of the hardest in that it's difficult to reverse trends. We've made that step. Hope we make more strides to becoming nationally relevant.

Just semantics. Control is the same as dominate. Just variations. The main point is many of us were waiting on multiple bad things to happen and for state to get the game tighter than 8 and it didn't happen. After we went up, I don't feel we gave momentum or control to the other team. The fumble could have made that happen, but it didn't.

We didn't control the game. We outscored them, not control it. If you want to control the game, you run the football well. We had two rushes that ended up being half of our yards, and outside of those two rushes, we averaged 2.87 per carry. Sure, we had the ball longer, but that was because of their 4 INTs, versus being able to do what we wanted at will. Dominating the game would have meant the game was truly over before the first quarter ended.

Also, for this team to succeed, we need to stay on the throttle the entire game. Fulmer ball led to a lot of bad things over the years, so I want to have them play aggressively until the end.

I love the fact that we won, but we did so by three big plays, not sustaining and executing drives. Really good defensive teams will keep us in front of them, and severely limit those big plays, and that's where effective RBs mean the most in the SEC.

If Dooley wanted to, UT could have thrown it 55 times and won by 35. They basically stopped passing in the 4th quarter. I don't think we dominated, but I think this is a negative viewpoint.

That's fine. I see it differently, but it's not negative, it's the truth.

Those 3 big plays we had were amazing, but outside of those, we didn't have any real drives where really grinded them down the field.

I don't think we dominated, but that doesn't mean I don't think it wasn't a good win for Dooley. Now, he's got to blowout Ga State at home, and just win against FL.

Exactly. We never really relinquished control to our opponent and did what we wanted to do early and late. Scoring 21 more in the 4th would have made some say we controlled the game, but its more than just the scoreboard.

Why do people want to judge by taking out big plays? We are a big play offense and defense. It's part of the game. I haven't really understood that argument. We could have gone for 600+ without problem. Hell, if you take big plays away from every game, its not much to analyze.

I have been a big time Dooley basher in the past, but I now like the guy. I have always wanted him to have success, but I am a big time supporter of his. He made some excellent hires this offseason and he is finally reaping the rewards of having his recruits playing as juniors.

I want to outscore out opponents in every quarter, and that should always be the goal, no matter the score on the board.

I'm not talking about taking out the big plays, I'm simply asking for people to look at the other drives as well. Part of the issue with big plays, and especially in our situation, is our defense doesn't force a whole lot of 3 and outs, and hasn't for a while. If you have a defense that produces a higher amount of 3 and outs, big plays are great, because they aren't winded. I love that we can hit on the deep ball, but I would like to see us be able to run down people's throats at will much more.

After the 1st quarter the Vols were in total control of the game and the only reason they didn't run them out of the dome was the self inflicted wounds.if Bray scores going into the half and Hunter catches the ones he dropped the Vols put another 17-21 on the board and NCSU gets really embarrassed.
