Does Dooley now gain respect?

Take the 4th down where he decided not to give us a 3 score lead and if the game has gotten closer we would have needed those points.

you mean the 4th down where the play call worked but Hunter dropped a great pass? You would choose a 44yd fg attempt from Palardy over that? Btw, it still would have been a 2 score game no matter what

Still a long way until Dooley gets national respect but he earned a little more from me Friday. Just compare the team on the field Friday night to the team that was on the field against kentucky. Night and day.

This. I find it funny that NCSU is now a good team according to a lot of posters on here. The same posters who gave NCSU no credit before the game.

NCSU is a middle if the pack ACC team and UT handled them properly. Dooley will get some nice wins this year. His team played very hard Friday night. That's all you can ask.
hey duh-meee we did not pick them to be guoooud. cbs, espn and several others picked them to be better then us.

Respect after winning one game may mean something to fans, but to the folks that do the hiring/firing. Fulmer was(I say this tongue in cheek) ran off because he could only 10 games a year.

So where are they at?

All the ones who talked negatively all off season

Ive spoken negatively of Dooley for over a year and a half. I still think he has a long way to go in order to prove he is a great coach, but friday night was a positive step and he gained a little respect.

You should cut your tongue off and throw away after such an hilarious post. You will never be able to top that post.

That is some funny stuff right there.

No

They wont like him because he won

They have talked so much crap, they need him to fail to save face

The truly sad thing is, you're right. The tendency of human to sway in the wind guarantees it. Do what people like and you're Dean and Sam Winchester rolled into one. Have a bit of bad luck or make a mistake and suddenly you're the yellow-eyed demon. I hope this team incredulously goes undefeated just to see the flip flopping finks for the frog freaks they really are.

For me winning is much more important than saving face. Dooley should get a lot of credit for winning a game that was VERY important to his career at UT.

I think NC State's O was a great early test for the new defense. With four turnovers, the most definitive statement that I can make about the new look Vols is that we have found an SEC ready D coordinator. I say that without any hesitation whatsoever.

The difference in the way the defense plays from hard hitting to sure tackling is mind boggling and night and day from the past 8-10 years. I'm very excited about the Vols defense and coach Sunseri. When they look at the film and fix leaving the middle open a couple of times during the first half I believe they will be a formidable unit that should scare the bejeebus out of our opponents.

I am a big supporter of Dooley... But he needs to win a SEC championship to cement his position.

That's what matters to UT.. Not just a single win but new banners to hang in the stadium.

But this is one hell of a good start.

and I hope they go undefeated because I'm a UT fan. If you let others control your fandom then you lose

It was very refreshing to see our D flying all over the field. Havent seen that in a while

One in a row does,t earn respect. It's a step in the right direction but not the finish line. Having said that, I respect the man. He took a hard job under hard circumstances.

Dooley is going to need a good SEC campaign to get support and respect. And that is fair.

wth?????????????????????????????????

not sure what you misunderstood. The fact is your attitude is no different than those you claim want UT/Dooley to lose to prove their point. Kinda sad when you let others control your enjoyment but whatever works

Respect, I would respectively suggest has little to nothing to do with it. His job is to WIN, put Fannies in the Seats, Sell Popcorn and keep the coffers full on the Hill. Oh, yes and do it for a LONG period of time.

I still think Dooley is in over his head....but the experience of this defensive coaching staff may keep him afloat.

Good recruiting, better PR, and better coaches with our record the last few years...sounds like he is about where he is supposed to be. He has managed to lose 7 coaches and come out better. He has a coaching staff that has been together less than a year somehow has managed to gain continuity and uniform direction. You could say he got lucky but I'd have to point you to the LSU game we lost (Won) and and the NC bowl game that we lost (Won) for examples of Dooley's luck :)

All we now are some wins and I believe we're about to get them.

Oh now I get it. you're out to nitpick by pulling a statement out of a post and painting it to a color you prefer. Very well then, carry on. You'll have to play with yourself while doing it though.

Dooley has to coach and win few more games to cement his extension. We won our first game, and that is great. Most of the mistakes we made were mostly caused by rust i.e. bad snap, moore missing his assignment, bouncing outside on a run. Our team looks better than NC State, and that's all we know for now. Lets watch the season play out, and sing rocky top when we win, or lose.
