Does Dooley now gain respect?

For me winning is much more important than saving face. Dooley should get a lot of credit for winning a game that was VERY important to his career at UT.

I think NC State's O was a great early test for the new defense. With four turnovers, the most definitive statement that I can make about the new look Vols is that we have found an SEC ready D coordinator. I say that without any hesitation whatsoever.

I have said many times you are solid, and this isn't an eat crow thread or anything. Just a discussion after something positive, rather than negative bs.

Can't say the same for some of the gang members that tended to show often in the offseason. I won't mention names, but I haven't seen them since the W.

Why the hell would someone want to complain and whine so much in the offseason about negativity, but not show up to discuss a huge W for the program?

But you were objective in your views

I dont consider you one

And I agree on Sal. He had that D ready. Love that he wasnt afraid to pin back those ears and go after Glennon

Agree, although out of the ones who think Dooley isn't the right guy, Lex is the only one that is objective. Also he just states his points, doesn't post a lot of useless negative BS.

I fully expected to roll NC State....but the defensive adjustments after the 1st quarter were bad ass. Very...very encouraging to see.

It's not about how you start, but how you finish. If he wants respect, he better have us playing well into November. Still, probably Dooley's biggest win for his career, so good job.

Eric, would you not agree that this team looks better than any team we have had in several years?

I realize TN has a ways to go to be a "great team" but the vast improvement from the last several years is obvious.

I would think we all can now agree the program is headed in the right direction.

I've said numerous times that I don't know what the future holds, but my expectations were up this year. We shall see what happens, but for that specific game, friday, I haven't seen a UT team play as fast, as hard or together as they did 2 days ago, in a long time. The swagger. The attentiveness to the sideline, the sideline demeanor, the body language when something bad happened was huge to me. If we can play with that effort every game and shore up some things, the wins will come.

We looked good starting the season last year as well, but the team couldn't handle adversity when 11 went down last year. I think they looked good, but they normally do in season openers.

Sal has this D playing punch you in the mouth defense! Tyler knows he has two solid weapons and ZRog is proving he can be a strong third option. Although not great overall, the run game was solid and I think Marlin should start next week. I was very pleased with what I seen, especially being the first game of the season against a team that a lot of "experts" were picking to beat us.

This was a much better team we opened against this year than the last 2. I think it's safe to say this is the best team we have had in several years.

When you think about the young prototypical receivers + Pig we have plenty of offensive weapons. However, the struggles in short yardage situations doesn't scream "solid" to me. Improved....yes...solid....not yet.

Does the domination of NCST, a good team with a very good qb and one of the best db's in the NCAA by several of the "experts" give Dooley the win that finally brings him respect of the Volnation ?

I think it was a great win. TN looks the part of being a good football team for the first time in several years.

I also think our coaching staff is a major upgrade over last years staff.

I feel good about the program again. I give credit to Coach Dooley. He has brought integrity back to TN. I hope he has major success and our coach for many years to come.

GBO .

to get respect, he's got to win a few games where he's the underdog

he's still never beaten a ranked team

Beat uf and uga and heads will definitely turn. Till this day he really hasn't accomplished anything in the league.

I know and realize that most people do not really care but since I am a UTM graduate I qam going to post this anyway:..................UTM 20 and University of Memphis 17 last night in the Liberty Bowl !!!! Go Skyhawks

Was that a 5A or a 6A game? Afterall, you were playing Tiger High!

Solid as in SEC caliber, no but comparing it to the last couple seasons was my point. Definitely need to stop the side to side, dancing around stuff and hit the hole hard and I think that will be a huge focus this week.

See how the rest of the season goes to find out. But Friday night was a good start. We got the momentum started.

I think he gained some respect, because the team that was on the field Friday night was well prepared and you could tell a difference in attitude from years past....JMO

Well, I never didn't respect Dooley. I knew we were going to suck for a couple of years because he was having to put guys on the field before they were ready to compete in the SEC. You play freshmen and sophomores in the SEC, no matter how talented they are, you're fielding boys against men. Dooley had the guts to take this job (unlike a certain coach who's in Gainesville now) and take the criticism from people who didn't understand the realities of football, and I respect the hell out of that.

On Friday night, I saw athleticism out of a Tennessee team that I hadn't seen in five years, and I liked what I saw out of the defense. Sunseri had those guys ready to play, and they made a very good quarterback look very bad.

Hopefully, Dooley can keep up the momentum from this.

Congratulations on beating Tiger High. I used to pull for them in football when they weren't playing UT, but after they fired Tommy West, I root for them to lose. I'm glad to see his comments after they fired him being vindicated.

You could tell they wanted to be there. And Dooley was working that sideline. They were in good spirits.

I still think Dooley is in over his head....but the experience of this defensive coaching staff may keep him afloat.

You do realize it is the head coaches responsibility to put his staff together right? He is not a position coach he has to hire the right ones. One of the biggest indicators of a great coach is being able to hire great staffs.

I congrate him on this must win but until her turns around our pitiful SEC record his coaching ability is still suspect. Take the 4th down where he decided not to give us a 3 score lead and if the game has gotten closer we would have needed those points. However the second half play was markedly better given the event at the end of the half. Win a game we aren't favored and improve recruiting this year and he will have a convert.
