So far in the CFP, it seems like the top defenses get torched by the top offenses (spread offenses). Bama got torched by Ohio State in the 2014 CFP for 42, Clemson in the 2015 CFP for 40, and Clemson in the 2016 CFP for 35. They also gave up 42 to OU in the 2014 Sugar Bowl. There's a reason Saban wanted these offenses to be restricted.

Today Georgia, with all of its great front-7 players, can't do a thing to contain OU.

I like the Pruitt hire, I think he's going to do well here in recruiting and coaching, but this is the reason I wanted a spread-oriented coach. That kind of offense gives us the best shot of beating Georgia, Alabama, and even other teams that get their pick of the litter in the front-7 like Florida and LSU. I hope our staff serves notice. I'm fine with being multiple but developing a good QB and spreading the defense out is how you beat the big boys nowadays imo.

The QBs UGA faced all season didn’t adequately prepare them for a talent like Mayfield. I thought their defense was turning the corner later in the second quarter, then OU’s masterful play calling took over.

I don't know if a good defense wins a championship by itself but I do know you don't win one without it.

For sure. Props to you for a great response exposing my click-baity thread title. You definitely do need both. My point is I just think you greatly increase your chances of beating these teams by being able to spread defenses out as opposed to trying to run right at and through them.

Even if they had, I don't think that changes the outcome. Their big physical front 7 isn't as suited to playing in space as they are to playing in a "phonebooth." You make them play in space, you score more points against them. The examples I referenced show this isn't an isolated incident. It's a trend that can easily be explained.

Game is loooong way from over.
Sure, but they dropped 31 in a half on them. That hasn't happened by a pro style offense on these caliber of defenses, in recent years. Again, point is that these offenses have a better chance against these type of defenses than pro-style based offenses.

Adjustments and coaching win Championships, be it offensively or defensively.

This.....LSU lost to Notre Dame because Coach O didn't have the Cajones to go for it on 4th and 1" line.......When they kicked that field goal, I looked to my Dad and said, "LSU just gave the game away"

Hell No - Got to have Offense - The days of winning 10-7 & 14-10 have gone the way of the Dodo Bird

Then why has Leak not won about 5 NC's? Why has the PAC10 not really been in the NC picture for years? Why has the big 10 been a factor more so lately? DEFENSE or lack of!

Yep last year and the year before we had the talent to beat any team we played, Butch made terrible in game decisions and pussed out of a bunch of game changing opportunities.

Georgia’s defense right now is winning them this game!

Of course not. That's why the old mountain west conference has all those NC trophies.
