DOES CLASS BECOME an issue

People act like this is his first rodeo. This is not a snot nosed kid floundering in his first attempt at running a program. He ran the recruiting efforts at the University of Southern California. Last I checked, they have had some pretty decent success in recent years. He was the head football coach in the National Football League. His father is quite possibly the best defensive mind in all of football. I don't know if he can coach a lick as the head man in charge, but his recruiting record, and that of those he has hired, speaks for itself. And if he has pissed off a few Florida fans and their coaches, then so be it. I for one welcome it.

Nobody but you is claiming a "fabulous academic career" or trying to boast about "2 degrees". Congrats on your masters, btw. Sorry you had to stoop to the LK level, try to impress me with all your accomplishments. For what its worth, double major Bio/phy Sci, work at UTSI 3 days/week, otherwise in Bradley co. Not that it is any of your b'ness, but I contribute alot to the univ....I have a right to say what I damn well please.

And if you think LK is a good face for UT, you have a big problem. I could tell that anyway from your attempted boast.

I don't particularly care about my own academic career. It's just that 98 percent of the time that I hear somebody bitching about how this incident has "embarrassed the university," or that guy "should be ashamed for representing the university," it's some pious townie telling the rest of us how he thinks we ought to feel. Those of us who actually went to school at UTK realize how basically unimportant the whole athletic department is to the entire university community, and so it generally takes a crapton more to embarrass us than it does somebody for whom the UTAD is synonymous to the university at large.

Your rhetoric about Kiffin "representing the university" sounded like that, is all. He's just a football coach. My university is represented by the law school, and the business school, and the world-famous forensic anthropology department, and the labs out in Oak Ridge, and stuff like that. I was embarrassed last year when our dumbass president dumped the best chancellor UTK has ever had in a political power play; our football coach accusing another football coach of a technical recuiting violation is so far below the threshold of embarrassment that almost makes me laugh to think about it.

5150, chill!!! Its not the end of the world!! I watched your idol stand by while he was embarrased by the rest of the SEC. You dont back down to the bullly, you stand up to them and when they realize your not intimidated by them, they will respect you. You dont gain respect by being a p****.

You gain respect by winning games, not by bragging about how great you did putting your staff together, or how you're going to beat the gators next year, or by saying how, in the future, you're going to get all the recruits, or by talking big about other SEC coaches that you've never beaten, or by incorrectly stating how all the other coaches are violating recruiting rules.

BY WINNING. GET IT? WIN and you gain respect. Not by running your pie hole.

Some of you are really, really clueless.

"Only the uneducated call others uneducated"

Relax....Spurrier did the same thing two months ago...he wasn't reprimanded because he's a future hof coach. Sure didn't hurt SCs recruiting. Why don't some of you people grow a pair and realize that Kiffin was just trying to make a fuss and didn't expect for Foley to be such a whiney b!tC#. CLK learned a lesson today...when it comes to getting things their way, UF gets it. I commend him for having a set because he's not scared about bulletin board material. To let it be known, I have never liked authority and apparently have that in common with CLK. This is the big leagues boys. If you don't like what happened today then go cheer for MTSU, I hear their coach is a really sweet guy who you would love to date your mother.

I agree with you believe it or not! But, what Kiffin has done is not the end of the world. I think Kiffin was poking fun at Meyer and making a statement at the same time. God forbid he has a sense of humor.

Now, give the man a chance. Remember, Saban didn't do so well his first year. Neuheisel....Ditto and he has a top 10 recruiting class. Hell look at what Rodriguez is doing at Michigan. Horrible first year, and he takes one of our prized recruits from us and lands a pretty good class himself. Same thing with Petrino at Arkansas. These guys deserve some TIME....

Fwiw the PTI guys both LOVE the fact that Kiffin is stirring the pot. They pointed out that Neuheisel went right after Pete Carroll when he got to UCLA. You go right after the big dog and let them know that you're not scared. I agree totally. FU UF.

Can't spell FU without UF:dance2::dance2:

Whether you like it or not, you have to consider the amount of $$ the univ brings in from athletics. Right or wrong, Kiffin is and will be recognized by most as the face of the univ. It was a mistake in hiring him. He doesn't have the intellect or the tact to be a proper spokesman for UT. Mark my words, he will continue to put his foot in his mouth till the day he leaves. It is embarassing watching him fumble around in front of the camera, and even more painful watching him incorrectly making accusations just to beat his chest.

If he was smart, he'd STFU and be an example for his players. He is not disciplined enough to be the HC of any team.

Could you please tell me who you wanted to be our beloved coach. Many have asked. Answer the damn question. Certainly with all of your degrees you can comprehend and answer this simple question.

You've mistaken me for Vercing.....he has all the degrees. You must not have been here long, as I have answered this question over and over and over and over again.

Short Answer - Davis, Gruden

Long Answer - all those coaches out there that actually have a resume worth looking at

Wow.Just wow!

Davis was not going anywhere, and neither was Gruden.

The university doesn't bring any serious money in from athletics; the athletic department is what brings in the money from athletics. Did you notice the news stories a couple of weeks ago that talked about how they are actually thinking about "finding ways" to divert some of the athletic department's money to help the university at large? I guess there finally got to be too much cognitive dissonance about the fact that the "university" was supposedly getting a new $15m/year revenue stream from ESPN, but that we were still talking about cutting academic programs and laying off professors. The UTAD must have realized that they couldn't keep ALL that money for themselves without it looking bad. Aw, shucks.

As far as Kiffin being the "face of the university," you sound just like the idiots on here last fall who talked about how "Fulmer = The University of Tennessee." No. They are both just the freaking football coach. Anyone who's been in any building on campus other than Neyland and the UC knows that.

At this point, after his rough exit from the Raiders and now this stuff with Urban, Lane is not laying a pretty foundation with future recruits. A LOT of negative recruiting will come from this fwiw.

My apologies. Let me rephrase. Who would you have liked us to hire that we could have actually signed. Those two coaches were never realistic possibilities.

Les is an moron, so for you to pipe in is ridiculous. You'll be looking for a new HC after this season.....hopefully they'll be one available with the initials LK.

This is the fundamental problem for a lot of our hysterical class. Alabama relentlessly pursued and eventually hired Nick Saban, and so therefore anything other than the top two or three guys on the wish list was an absolute failure.

Anyone who seriously thought that Super Bowl-winning Jon Gruden was going to walk away, in the prime of his career, from an apparently playoff-bound NFL team to take over a collegiate rebuilding project is not really worth engaging in serious conversation. There was a better shot at Davis, although once you hear how he wanted to basically sit outside the AD and be his own boss, it sure doesn't sound like that have been worth it either.

And that was it, for a lot of these guys. Anything else would have been settling for hind tit. And since Bama got Saban, failure to get your #1 guy is no longer reasonable.

all i can say we didnt get the #1 class and we are still the talk of the day. so i think alk has another +1 n my book..:good!:

Not when your AD is looking to maintain control.

So we just go through a situation in which we have to keep a politically powerful football coach five or six too years to long, and now you want to immediately hand the job to somebody else with even LESS accountability? Who's the same age as the old, washed-up coach we're dumping? No thanks.

I wanted Butch Davis too. I was disappointed that we didn't get him. But I don't let that blind me to literally everything else that's happened since then.

He is not a UT fan... He is a troll posing.
