Dobbs worked with the 1s today!

If dobbs gets the start he will have my support 100%.. just like worley.. just like peterman.

It is called being a fan instead of an unpaid analyst.. some of you should try it :)

^This a thousand times. Although I'd change that to unpaid critic as analyst implies some analytical skills that accounts for facts and I've yet to see the facts considered by many.

That said, you're correct if you mean to compare them to the analysts on TV/sports talk who are sadly ~95% prone to praise whoever is winning regardless of facts or even whoever puts on a good show win they aren't supposed to/are large underdogs. Still they don't deserve the title analyst, imo. Even the ones who should be able to use their brains have been pushed into the controversy/entertainment as analysis model. True analysts are a dying breed.

Well he definitely didn't look anywhere near as good as Dobbs. Someone who apparently practices that well consistently should at least be talked about, right?

It was Dobbs and Worley being talked about after the spring game, with a little bit of 'Ferguson doesn't look as good as we thought' talk.

Malone looked like Jerry Rice in the spring game. How has that translated to the season?

Heck. Lets just play them all. Got nothing to lose. Who knows. Someone might make a play. We got to figure this out. Why not Alabama. lol

This is what drives me insane here.........We do know! The very fact that he is not playing and is third on the depth chart is the freakin proof!

Why is that so hard to understand? I mean for f_cks sake, if CBJ and staff thought otherwise, he would be playing and at the very least be second behind Worley.

Do any of you actually think that CBJ would not play him if he were the answer? I can think of no viable reason that they would keep Dobbs out if he were the better QB. None. And if they are keeping him out knowing he is the better QB for some reason I would have to question CBJ's ability to coach this team.

Yes I do think that he would sit out if he ahead of Peterman to preserve his redshirt. Happens all the time. Better QBs but younger ride the pine learning the system behind a more senior and less talented QB. Ultimately it would be good to have a QB in the system 5 years. If CBJ thinks he could get to 6 or 7 wins and redshirt a QB then it makes sense.

Kids can develop so much between 18-21. I was a collegiate athlete and saw it first hand. The difference is night and day from HS to college. Don't judge a kid so harshly who was only a few months out of HS thrown into games without any weapons. Even though we had a good O-LINE last year our running game was anemic. One game Dobbs was our #1 rusher. I'm not saying he is a hybrid of Michael Vick and Peyton Manning either. But he does maybe provide more abikity to scramble.

So simply because Peterman is listed as #2 does not necessarily mean he is really our 2nd best guy. I spoke with a former player last weekend who was emphatic that Dobbs will be the man next year and they are trying to save his red shirt. Is he correct? I don't know and you don't know what the coaches are thinking It is disguised with coach speak.

This may be bad. People forget Worley beat SC and Dobbs got beat by Vandy.

That worked out well last year, didn't it. Oh wait no it didn't...

Rajion Neal ran for 1124 yards averaging 5.2 yds per carry.
Marlin lane ran for 534 yds averaging 5.3 yards per carry.
I don't think these stats qualify as anemic.

It is obvious that Dobbs gives the Vols more tools in the playbook. About time that Butch decides to use him versus wasting on the bench with a redshirt. Several good freshmen QB's coming in so no telling what will happen in the future. The Time is Now!!

This is completely flawed logic, the time is not now. This season is blown, let it play itself out with everyone in place who is in place now. Burning redshirts at this point in the season is nothing short of dumb, desperate moves. Worley is gone next season and he's proven to be able to take hits and get back up so let him keep it up. Putting anyone else behind this Oline especially during Bama is the very definition of an injury waiting to happen and we can't afford to absorb that once Worley is gone from QB.

Never seen a true freshman like Dobbs get so much ridicule. Yes, he had some bad moments but he was a true freshman. I know he is a soph but he has only played 1 year. I just don't understand people discounting a guy that was a true freshman last year, he is smart and he studies the game hard and is working hard at getting stronger. I am certainly not about to give up on Dobbs yet. GO VOLS!!!
Remind you of someone named Manning?

besides if we don't start worley for this game i think that could be a good thing, that will leave him rested for the rest of the games if we need him. it gives us a better backup qb than peterman for sure.

It's getting time for the rubber to hit the road. Dobbs played over Peterman last year the last four games. Since he is in aeronautical engineering for a major, that means post graduate work and continued eligiblity. It is a combination of things. I think Butch was hoping the senior Worley could get them to a bowl game this year, Dobbs could redshirt and be the quarterback in prime time beginning in 2015. I don't think it has anything to do with Peterman being better than Dobbs. Dobbs was the best in the spring by a wide margin. And it is a no brainer that the best player on the field at the QB position would be Josh Dobbs who could take the pressure off of both JALEN HURD and the OFFENSIVE LINE with his feet! They need him to get to a bowl in my opinon. The status quo is not acceptable with the games coming up!The question is, "Is getting to a bowl game this year more important than Dobbs' red shirt this year?

This, This, this, this and this....

Ppl have been ragging on Coach Jake all season, saying a better coach could get better gains.

I think what we are seeing is how bad the drop off was from last year's line to this years. 1650 yards between two backs and avg of 5.2 yds per carry?

Oline is the beginning and end of a good offense in the SEC. You cant run, and you cant do more than slants and screens without getting your QB hammered. Even when Worley did get a down the field throw (complete or not) he was getting smashed. By NFL caliber defensive lineman. He has been sacked 32 times this season, i think? I bet he's been hit about 100 times. Can you imagine getting blindsided by a 320+ pound grown man 14-15 times in a 3 hour time span, once a week?

Id be walking to class with my head on a swivel. He probably flinches when someone bumps him on the way to class. He's like a PTSD war vet. Wakes up at 2am with night sweats, sees SEC DE's hiding in his closet.

Screw that man. I'd fake an injury. Ill hold the clipboard, Coach, no problemo...

Just heard on the Radio that Josh Dobbs got extensive work with the 1st team today. Wonder what CBJ has up his sleeve....hmmmmmmm

With worley hurt I say he wants a very mobile qb. They have been giving bama def fits it's our best opportunity

The problem is that if you take a look at the breakdown of where Neil got those yards you will see that he got almost half of them vs 3 pushover teams:

Austin Peay - 141
South Alabama - 169
Kentucky - 134

So nearly 500 of those seemingly impressive 1124 yards came vs weak competition (only vs UGA and Auburn Neil went over 100 yards while against UF and Missouri he had 42 and 8 yards :cray:). This was/is a big problem that is consistent with Bajakians previous performances (where his offenses at Cincy also rarely scored big vs top competition - which is the main reason they never beat a top 25 team before they came to UT).

Okay, I respect your opinion that Peterman is the better QB.

It seems the main point of argument about the two is that if you can't write Dobbs of yet, you can't write off Peterman, because Dobbs has played more, which is true.

However, myself, along with a few other people, think that Peterman's two performances in big time situations were telling enough. It's just, I don't think I've witnessed that terrible of a first time starting performance by any QB.

Also, it's fine if you think Dobbs performance last year is indicative of how good of a QB he is. He's just looked better than Peterman in game IMO.

You are getting people confused. I've never said you can't write one off if your not writing off the other.
I'm also not a Peterman fan. I don't think he has what it takes.

Pay attention cause this is the part you keep missing.
CBJ is going to play the best guy.
2 years in a row CBJ has put Peterman ahead of Dobbs.
There will be a competition for the spot next year and judging from history I'm guessing CBJ will do it again.

Uummm no
Dobbs played because both Worley and Peterman were injured.
