CBJ recruited Dobbs to play at Tennessee specifically.

He didn't recruit any of the other QB's on our roster and I hear that we won't recruit another QB for 2014.

It will be interesting who we target for 2015.

He recruited Peterman too when he was at Cincinnati.

I wouldn't count Dobbs or Peterman out just yet. Remember Dobbs looked decent against Mo. He just the started off the Vandy with two bad throws and wrong routes run by receivers plus drops by receivers. Both will be OK. Just a little work and all is well

So you people honestly expected a true freshman, non-early enrollee QB to have success with no experienced receivers and average at best running backs? Name one QB that has come in with that situation and had any success in the SEC.

His starters at receiver all season were two true freshmen, a redshirt freshman and a sophomore that is only capable of playing slot receiver. The receivers barely gave Worley a chance to win, you add in a true freshman and there's basically no chance.

Trying to judge Dobbs (or Ferguson if it had been him) is unbelievably premature at this point. I guarantee you'll see a different guy in the spring game and a hell of a competition between Dobbs and Worley this summer.

Ferguson is going to have a shot as well, but if you're expecting to be the savior, keep hoping. He may be the guy one day, but Dobbs has looked better in every aspect of the game from the start, despite what some media have said. Ferguson has looked fine in drills, but his work in team periods closed to the media never had him in the mix. Hopefully, he takes a step forward as well. But if Dobbs improves the way he should with the experience he's gotten this season, he's going to be the guy for some time coming.

No you won't...Worley is 3 times the QB Dobbs ever thought he was...Riley is clearly the better backup and would be the starter if he hadn't been hurt...He is the future, Dobbs needs to get a hold of that clipboard for awhile and get better so he will be a good backup if something happens...I just don't see anything that tells me he will be the starter for years to come.

How many practices have you seen? Just wondering how you can be so sure that Ferguson is the better of the two when you've never seen him throw a football.

Yeah, Worley is better than Dobbs, he's been on campus in a college program and a strength and conditioning program. Of course he's better. As I've said many times in this thread, it's so rare to see a true freshman make any sort of impact at quarterback, I'm really wondering why you're surprised that Dobbs has struggled.

I think Ferguson wins the job with Dobbs and Worley fighting for 2nd. Peterman transfers.

I'll admit, when I first saw Dobbs and his cannon arm and running ability, I thought he would us to new levels. I was wrong. Yeah, he can run, but his pocket presence and ability to throw the ball more than 10 yards downfield accurately is terrible. I'm not sure if that can be taught during the offseason or not. When you don't throw a single touchdown pass in any game you play, there is something wrong. Here is to hoping the QB competition in the spring will yield a good QB for us next year. As much as I was disappointed in Worleys play, we would have won against Vanderbilt and probably would have been competitive against Missouri. Between Worley, Ferguson and Dobbs, surely we have a competent SEC QB going forward.

dude you are on crack

Prior to the Vandy game, there were a lot of people saying Dobbs was the future. I disagreed with that stance since Dobbs had not shown that he would be a competent QB in the SEC.

However, he is a true freshman who has been thrown in over his head against some very good defenses. He had no success early on and his confidence has been shaken. However, to say he will never be a competent QB is an ignorant statement. Dobbs has the skills but he will need to develop the ability to read defenses, see the field, and throw the ball with more accuracy. That can be developed. We will see.

Reports out of practice indicate Ferguson has the ability to compete for the QB job but we will have to see how he competes in games. Why not wait and see what a year in the weight room, film room and practice field will do for both of these young men.

Further, I am rooting for Peterson to have a great off season and be ready to compete for playing time. It would be a great story. From what we've seen this year, Worley would have to be the leader for the job going into the spring but he will have to hold off the other three to keep it.

I'm rooting for all four and I hope the starter will have to perform at a high level to beat out and hold off the other three.

He was never intended to be the answer this year. He's a true freshman and was #4 on the depth chart. He was thrown into the Bama game due to injuries to qb #1, #2, and #3.

This kid was playing high school ball the same time last year, now he's on tv playing in front of huge crowds. There's no doubt he could play better, BUT he is getting great experience and I'm not ready to write him off yet.

Yes I have seen Ferguson throw a football and yes he is the better of the two...Go watch his highlights sometime....Most radio people even acknowledge Ferguson is the future..Dobbs can't throw a ball 50 yards...That much has been proven..I mean you can expect a kid to struggle a little bit but to completely stink it up like he has is just unreal...I am not surprised he struggled, Just surprised he showed absolutely no improvement week to week.

Bray was light years ahead of Dobbs as a true freshman and made better decisions throwing the ball as well....considering everyone is always calling Bray a headcase, that has to be concerning.

And why didnt Dobbs travel to UF again?

Well, if you had read earlier on in the thread, I mentioned that Dobbs ran the scout team for Oregon and Florida weeks to prepare for the mobile QBs. Ferguson got third team reps those two weeks and worked the gameplan as the third string guy. So they traveled the guy that worked the gameplan to Florida since there is a limit on the number of players you can take to an SEC road game.

Ferguson ran scout team when UT was preparing for teams with a dropback passer and Dobbs got the third team reps, including the first two weeks of the season and Georgia week, after the Florida game. Ferguson was injured while running the scout team during Alabama week.
