Look, we just lived the same thing with Kyle Trask in Mullen’s offense. While Trask had a spectacular season throwing the ball, a huge chunk of Mullen’s offense was obsolete, because NOBODY feared the QB run, and NOBODY fell for any QB run fakes or play action off fakes.

Bailey can be similar to Kyle Trask or he can be a disaster in this offense. One thing that helped Trask was throwing to guys like Pitts, Toney and Grimes. I don’t see those type of dudes on UT’s roster at the moment.

That's why this offense is pass first. The entire point is that defenses are going to respect the pass or get burned

RPO’s, read options, anything relating to a QB run doesn’t bode well for Bailey at QB. Bailey looks to have some solid potential as a drop-back, pro-style guy, I’m having a tough time envisioning anyone falling for his actually running the ball or his fake runs.

The Veer and Gun offense is not really the same as an Air Raid. It is a power offense based on Art Briles' philosophies, dressed as Air Raid attack. Matchups man on man on the outside and deep, with option to hand off if qb does not see opportunity. Lots of QB RPO with run emphasis, with opportunity to force mismatches with LBs on WRs.
We saw how well offenses can take advantage of LB mismatches in scheme last season. The Hard Way.

Tennessee plays Bama, Florida, Georgia and a whole bunch of other killers every year, all loaded with NFL draft picks, plus usually a tough out of conference team.

UCF plays East Carolina, Navy, Florida A&M, Tulane, Temple, Marshall, UConn and Houston every year.

With talent on par with them.

At Missouri with about 2/3rds the talent of those programs his QB passed for 3900 yards and 44tds. They also rushed for 200 per game.

Did you read any of the points of how the offense works. Its not based off of the Qb running. It's based off of does he hand off or throw. The 3rd and last option is to pull it down and run.

We couldn't score 50 on them the past 3 years.

I went back last night and started watching some UCF from 2020 a little more closely. Super fast temp, snapping the ball nearly as soon as the ref spots it.

The O seems pretty versatile, spreads the D out, attacks every part of the field through the air: underneath, deep thirds, etc.

They ran the ball a fair amount, depending upon the Defensive front....even some power schemes.

Lots of RPO concepts, mixed in some true option, designed QB run. Overall the O seems quite versatile and, unlike previous regime, seem willing to adapt based on personnel and what the D is doing.

Maybe I’m just being a sheep, but I’m getting kind of excited about this O. Defense was concerning, but hopefully we’ll adjust tempo based on who we’re playing.....I think we can flat out go warp speed and out score KY, Vandy, USCe, etc. Hopefully against Bama and those types of Offenses we adjust, slow it down a touch and shorten the game to help our D our a little.

I’m in wait and see mode, but I’m probably more optimistic than I should be haha

The positive of it is that you score a lot of points without using a lot of clock most of the time. The negative is your defense plays more of the game than your offense.

If you want to see what Harrison Bailey will look like in this offense, watch Drew Lock at Missouri. What I found interesting, if you watch their highlights, is that when Heupel has a tall QB like Lock you’ll see more downfield passing between the hashes. When he has a shorter guy like Milton or Gabriel, you see way more deep passes down the sidelines. Bailey doesn’t have to be super mobile to succeed in his offense either. He just needs to be able to pull the ball on an RPO a couple times a game to pick up a first down (which he actually did a few times this year, to our surprise). Again, see Drew Lock. I truly believe Harrison can be a 3500-4000 yard passer in this system. Perhaps more. It wasn’t a fluke that he is #4 in Georgia high school history, and he did it in 6A ball. I love Harrison Bailey in this offense.
