Did Tennessee players throw the OSU game?

No, we got our asses beat, handily.

But imo Nico’s narcissistic daddy whining like a little girl that he didn’t get a pay raise and threatening to not let his son play probably didn’t help either.

Josh Pate reporting Nico and other players tried demanding more money right before the OSU game. Instead of sitting out they played which leads me to wonder did they throw the OSU game on purpose because they didn't get what they wanted?

I’d like to see some evidence of this accusation otherwise it’s just unsubstantiated nonsense.

I don't think players throw games but I will state that when you get behind, sometimes players are quicker to let off the petal.

I will state that our push to make it close before half time shows that they gave some degree of effort.

I just think it was a perfect storm of Ohio State having all the mojo (and more talent), Tennessee being overwhelmed, Tennessee missing Dylan Sampson (I think that was huge from leadership aspect), and the Nico drama.

I am starting to wonder one thing, though. Some of the turnover in December may have been in response to Nico (such as Squirrel White for example). Some of these players may have wanted to get away from Nico and the drama.

I hadn’t thought about that last point. Although I’ve read/heard nothing on that front, it’s entirely plausible that the behind the scenes Nico drama might have factored in. Not sure how likely - but clearly a possibility.

If we were throwing the game I am not sure what this was about:

He was just talking about Nico and other players around the country threatening to hold out. Not multiple Vol players. OP misread what Pate was saying.

Its a little of both. OSU was definitely the better, more skilled, team. However... UT barely gave any effort after about the first 10 mins.
That's the way it looks when you're getting your ass beat. Heard too many top players say exactly that

my whole family and I were at the game and felt Nico gave it everything he had versus OSU. Clearly more than others from our POV.
He definitely played different I said that after the game. Not that it was better, but he took off and ran more than any game. Problem was when you go back and look at the replay some of the time, he had an open receiver. I was a little perplexed after the game in one respect I was proud of Nico and his toughness but on another respect, I couldn't figure out what caused him to go completely away from his normal game style mode. Now I wonder if his handlers told him go out there and take over the game like you did in HS we are going after big money after we win, or you walk. The problem was its not high school, and he was playing vs. OSU and only threw for 108 yards. He might drop to a G5 school like Tulane and not get any more than he got at UT. I do believe the game vs OSU was compromised by his ppl getting into his ear, Polynesian culture has the kids walking lock step with what their parents say good or in this case bad. We are better off in the long run to get rid of this train wreck of a clan.

The Tennessee offense was standing on the sidelines in that game (Dylan Sampson). Couldn't sustain any drives and OSU shredded our defense. You may have had a few guys giving less effort but i'd say Sampson not playing was a big part of it. Nico and the passing game was shat most of the year. We were in trouble from the start.

Holy moly 🤦‍♂️
Of course we did. Then Oregon did. Then Texas. And finally Notre Dame.

Sorry for the late post. Idk if players threw the game but Mike Matthews apparently had reason to suspect Nico was transferring elsewhere right around that time frame, if he knew probably several other people knew as well.

It wouldn’t matter ultimately bc that Ohio State team was so good but it’s a distraction that probably didn’t help the locker room or effort in that game. Sampson being hurt also really messed up our chances of being competitive. Ohio state though was not only the best team in the country they were motivated, pissed and partly embarrassed by their previous game.

Are you asking if Tenn threw the game against the team who smoked the only undefeated #1 team the next week?

Definitely.

Nope., at least not intentionally They just got out classed by better athletes and Nico didn't have his best game. However, Nico could have been one player who probably could have played better. I think OSU knew the weak spots and had time to prepare for those spots on both sides of the ball.Ou Offense was pretty basic and the defense had problems at LB and Safety.
