Did Tennessee players throw the OSU game?

I wonder why Oregon threw their game against OSU. OS beat them a whole lot worse than they beat us.

I think he was referring to Nico and other players around the country. Not other Vol players
I wonder if these were players represented by the same agent or agency?

If your job (as an agent) is to secure for your client every benefit you can, it's easy to understand the logic of asking for your client to be paid more for playing more games.

But that's just left-brained accounting. It will take time for top agents to arise at the college level, agents who understand their job as more of a mission to further their client's career and add to his/her value on-and-off the field over a lifetime.

The Mannings seemed to understand that as well as anyone we've seen up close and over a period of time.

what if it wasn't just Nico. what if some on the OL were letting things slip on purpose because they weren't making enough money? what if they let things slip because they were pissed at Nico demanding more money? the article points to more than just Nico. but you can see how all this stuff can take many forms of "not trying"
Just no.

The O was a hot, low-scoring mess all year that didn't show up until 2nd half most times, and got their butts handed to them by a team allowing 13 pts/game, and littered with NFL prospects. Our defense wasn't 'elite' but perhaps 80 percentile, against - again - an O littered with pro-ballers who showed up.

It's no deeper than that.

Did Kent State throw the game with UT?

No, but it might've looked like that because they were completely outmatched.

We were not as outmatched as Kent State but we were outmatched in almost every position. A drama free locker room, healthy Sampson, and Peyton Manning QBing wasn't going to let us win that game.

Josh Pate reporting Nico and other players tried demanding more money right before the OSU game. Instead of sitting out they played which leads me to wonder did they throw the OSU game on purpose because they didn't get what they wanted?

There is zero upside in throwing the game. Tennessee certainly won't give you more money if you do and you risk tanking your draft stock if you have NFL aspirations. I guarantee you that NFL teams are already noting this Nico situation for whenever he decides to come out. Maybe some teams will overlook it. Other teams will see it a huge red flag.

A question like this shows where college football is headed. If the fans are thinking like this imagine what the players are doing. Plots, sub-plots and soon its every man for himself. Impossible to coach and build a team mentality at this point.

Sports Animal reported not long after the OSU loss that a source had told them Nico shopped around between the vandy game and OSU playoff game.

After hearing this, it explained to me why the OL looked like they forgot how to block during the OSU game. They were over it and allowing guys to get to Nico at full sprint. Lol

How was Tennessee's OL so good in the run game and seemed to not give as much effort on passing plays, especially late in the season and in the playoff game?

The OL was trashed by everyone and they were manhandled particularly on pass blocking. Could they have been easing up a bit on certain plays?

I highly doubt any of them would do it consciously and intentionally.

...but there's something to be said about the subconscious.

Na man, that’s not how sports work.

Was there maybe a ding in motivation- sure. But we were outclassed, outcoached… all the players were trying their best in the situation - no one “layed down” we weren’t winning that one with Jesus giving the pregame talk.

No, Ohio State was Much better than us!
If that were the case, should have told Nico to hit the road in December, that way he would have gotten most of the snaps this spring. I want to belief that’s what happened but Nico was the best player in the team against Oh. St.

Nico didn't play like a kid that tried to throw the game. Wrs couldn't get open and he put his body on the line to try and make things happen with his legs.
Agreed, Nico was more aggressive than we had seen him in other games. Probably putting on a show for the other teams that were interested.

I’m not saying we would have won….but that game changed QUICKLY on an incidental face mask. Before people start screaming, I’m not saying that changed the outcome, but it sure took the air out.

Too much is being made about players supposedly leveraging the playoffs for more NIL pay. The reality is that the Winter transfer portal opens up that first week of December and 95% of college football teams that aren't in the playoffs are shifting around their rosters and making offers to other players. It's only natural that kids that helped take their teams to the playoffs, hear what contracts other players are are agreeing too and then their agents use it as an opportunity to try and get their player more money.

He stated on his podcast that Nico was among others, not at UT, who were trying the same move. Still could have hurt how we played, when all players needed no distractions from their biggest game of their careers.
