Derrick Walker enters Transfer Portal

Did Arizona State known preseason that they were going to be a bubble team?

If Tennessee had a rough year and got in as a 10 seed is Burns suddenly a less talented player?

Burns woudnt have redshirted if the roster wasn't a 30win one IF he's good enough to make an impact in year 2

So yea you just made my point

Go ahead BTO I am curious to see the list. Go ahead and use blue blood programs and all. Hopefully this guy proves me wrong and is an impact player next year but I have my doubts.

My impression is that a large majority of RS players that made impact their RS freshmen/2nd year are guards.

Imo most bigs that need to redshirt take a longer time to develop into impact players but I would love to see some data on such things

Thought it was pretty clear he redshirted to get in shape.

He redshirted because of the roster more than anything. He and everyone else knew when he came in a year early what the deal was. Decision was made before he sat foot on campus

Tyrus Thomas immediately comes to mind.

He was 17 and 290 pounds.

Came to get ready and get in shape
He will get PT this year. But he will be a hoss next year if he wants to

I like Fulk, but he is clumsy. I remember against Kentucky in the SEC tournament, he tripped over his own feet getting back on defense. Fulk tripping over his own feet led to a transition layup.
That’s happened several times actually. Has trouble catching bounce passes to. Hustles and plays hard though but need upgrade at position to maintain a tourney team

I feel another contract buyout coming in about two years!
The contract is fully guaranteed through the end of the 2022 season. That means firing Barnes in two years would result in a buyout of over $15 million. That’s not happening.

Good luck to Walker and thanks for his contributions to the program the last couple of seasons......... I think that Fulkerson will have a solid senior season and Blackshear would be a nice depth addition if Williams does not return.

Did someone declare he was an All-SEC guy next year? Maybe the staff likes his potential long term?

Huh?

The context being discussed here is we need an immediate impact guy if Grant is gone. Imo ita easier to find that in a grad transfer than in a kid that redshirted last year. I don't like the odds either way to be honest but guys that redshirted are very unlikely to give this team an immediate impact

Fulkerson will be a Junior.

Take a Lew Evans type graduate transfer or a guy you feel can be a very good SEC starting big man for 2-3 years? If those are the options I’m taking the guy for the future, I don’t see a Lew Evans caliber type bringing much more than Fulk/Burns/Kent

Yea and hasn't been a factor since either which is my exact point
So we should cut bait then, no chance he contributes? Same for Burns? Also Kent? Probably Pember and/or Gaines as well? It’s a wonder anyone redshirts if it’s widely known they’ll never be any good if they do?

I think that's worth a discussion. I'd say the same think about this guy from arizona state in year one. Very unlikly to give that immediate impact and that's all I was saying all along

Cutting bait is certainly worth discussing with Johnson. I like his potential but the clock has been clicking a long time. Imo I'd cut bait with he or Pons. There isn't room for both to thrive and grow in my mind

Already state the reasons Burns is different

Yea I would be perfectly fine with cutting Kent lose. I think the reports about his progress were made to nudge walker out the door

Who was he supposed to displace considering we were loaded at his position.
I'm surprised he contributed as much as he did playing 5 minutes a game.
Knocked down a 3-pointer in eight games this season; 9 of his 14 baskets have come from beyond the arc this season
Finished with five points and a steal in win against Mississippi State (3/5/19)
Converted a four-point play in UT’s victory over South Carolina (2/13/19) at home
Gave the Vols solid minutes off the bench in win at South Carolina (1/29/19); had two points and a rebound in 14 minutes of play
Posted six points on two 3-pointers and recorded a pair of assists vs. Wake Forest (12/22/18)
Matched his career high in scoring with six points on a pair of threes in UT’s win vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (12/2/18)
Posted a solid performance off the bench in win vs. Eastern Kentucky (11/28/18), with four points and a career-high three rebounds
Made his season debut against Louisiana (11/9/18), scoring two points and pulling down two rebounds in the victory.
Sat out the season-opener vs. Lenoir-Rhyne (11/6/18) with a sore hamstring.
