Derek Dooley......(merged)

It's not to me. Coaching is a business. Most of the people on here pissing and whining about Kiffin would leave their current job for a better parking spot and 10 extra minutes at lunch.

I'm perturbed with the situation, but I'm not surprised. When you hire a brash young hotshot hired gun, you can't be shocked when he acts like a brash young hotshot hired gun.

The disappointing aspect is that it happened after the first year with the first big job opening for which he would be considered. I don't know what happened behind the scenes, but I would have liked to have thought UT would have enough to offer that the head coach wouldn't be stolen away by the first pretty face smiling in his direction.

You speak with such logic.

It seems logic has left most Vols fans. Half of the people who are saying it's so terrible and he will do awful and kill our program are basing it off of their mighty future-sense.

I'm going to forward a PM I sent out earlier today that will answer some of your questions. I meant to send it to you initially, but you can only send to 5 people at a time.

Thanks.

I am a little disappointed that I didn't make the top 5, though.

you all hied worst than any college yet. Call the old folks home, get vince, johnny, edwards from BYU find someone who has won atleast 20 games in his career.

Dooley is the son of Vince Dooley, long time coach and AD at Georiga. He has experience and is known as a great recruiter. He turned LA Tech around and they won their first bowl game in 30 years this year. He is also a great motivator, who can take a 3 star recruit and make him play like a 5 star. I think he will do well. He has honor which is more than Lame Kitten had.

just saw on footballscoop that he is expected to keep kipp, thompson, and chaney. and hes bringing stan eggen, terry joseph, and some sprangler guy with him. they seemed like they were good recruiters. also heard we are bringing gunter brewer (ok state wr coach/off coordinator) to the staff

He wouldn't have been kept for several years by Satan if he wasn't a great recruiter. Cruiting for UT a whole lot easier than for La Tech.

....yeah but he has been gone for a few years ...and Sabey is still at the top of the recruiting food chain. If you do a little logic in reverse ...it seems like Dooley's recruiting 'abilty' benifited from being with Saboe . Nothing since to guage Dooley on. ...rather than Vice Versa

I'm just saying

Saban is at Alabama which is no longer on an sactions. If you can't recruit at bama you just need to pack it up and go home. On the other, LSU was garbage for a decade before Saban and Dooley got there. LSU is ok now but there also on the downside again. I don't know if this guy can coach but he can recruit.

He is speaking intelligently. At least he's not muttering, stumbling, and bumbling. He is being honest about who he is. I'm willing to give the guy a chance because he has mentioned two words--integrity and class--meaning he will maintain some morals. :eek:k:

I'd take him. Ever been to Ruston and had a look at La Tech's facilities?

Dooley has to work against that--and the crap left to him by Jack Bicknell, Jr.

They were so damn awful Rice rolled into town and gained 692 yards rushing on them (Never thought I'd see that in my lifetime--but it actually happened.). It took years for the old AD and President to find the money to fire Bicknell--so things got worse and the fans stopped going to games.

He's made them a better program and actually laid the groundwork for the future in terms of facilities.

He'd be a good fit here because he's seen hell. He's not had it easy like Muschamp. He's not fallen into great jobs like Kiffin. There are challenges to working at Tennessee...especially as it comes to recruiting. But these would be like a walk in the park for someone who has had to build all phases of a program in Ruston.

I don't necessarily want the guy who has had all the breaks. I'd like a coach who has had a struggle and knows what it is like to build from that.

very well said.could not agree more.
