Derek Dooley......(merged)

Can't you leave me some excuse for allowing hat to beat my witty responses to the punch?

Sorry, your excuse was fine. I was just noticing the lack of buzz this hire created. Honestly, this is the first time in about 40 hours I have been able to get on and use this site without losing connection over and over.

He is the head coach of UT therefore he has my full support!

It is going to take at least the weekend for me to be able to see this hire through orange glasses.

Dooley was going to picked up pretty soon anyway by a big time school, we get him first, I intend to enjoy UT football back to normal real soon, sick of Kiffin crap.

I'm coming into this hire with an open mind....I'm not gonna judge CDD until he has a chance to prove himself...I really hope for the best...GO BIG ORANGE!

Coaching ability without character isn't going to produce a NC.

Wha? Dude, Nick Saban just won a national championship.

Edit: I should have finished reading the thread before replying. Looks like many others pounced on this silly comment.

How long did Erickson stay at Idaho before jumping to Arizona State?

According to wiki, about the same amount of time he spent at Wyoming before leaving without notice for Wazzu.

I know. I mainly mentioned it because I'm pretty sure he just did it again :p

welcome Coach Dooley! Why it took so long I don't know, the guy is young, great recruiter, great pedigree, and gulp, had to have learned something from years under Nick Satan.

Is he a great recruiter? Everyone keeps saying it but what's to show that makes him great?

Sorry but We dodged a MAJOR bullet by not getting Cutcliffe. You want Fulmer part deux??? Really?? 'Cause we just about got it.

We need to thanking the football gods right now...

Thats really makes me think you have never watched or paid attention to anything Cutt has done. Virtually every O record at UT and Ole Miss is held by his teams. He was SELECTED by Archie to coach his boys. Manning was involved trying to get him hired . People dog his recruiting...but who dis all of that offensive talent come to play for ? What caused the same guys from 2005 to turn into a bunch of winners in 2006 ? Heath Schuler , Tee martin , Eric Ainge. Kiffin said he was gonna send guys to the NFL ...well Cutt HAS sent a ton of linemen , RB's , and QB's to the next level. He has also revived the Duke program to the amount it can be revived.. So you probably want to think about that ...

Jury is still out on Dooley. I know he hasn't won much or recruited much at a much lower level of football. I know that he worked under Saban and recruited ...but he doesn't now and Saban is still on top of the world recruiting. One could surmise that he is not the reason Saban was so successful recruiting ? I hope he does well , I always pull for the Big Orange , but I think this is a Titanic bust. I will be the first in line for crow if I am wrong and will enjoy every bite.

How long did Erickson stay at Idaho before jumping to Arizona State?

"Erickson's head coaching career began at age 34 at the University of Idaho. He was hired on December 11, 1981, succeeding Jerry Davitch, who had been fired just days before the final game (a one-point home loss against rival Boise State). A pre-season playoff pick, Idaho finished the 1981 season with eight consecutive losses, winless in the Big Sky conference.

Building on his reputation as an offensive innovator, Erickson became Idaho's all-time winningest head coach in just four seasons with the Vandals (1982-85), taking them to the I-AA playoffs in his first and fourth seasons. In his first season, Erickson took a 3-8 team in 1981 and immediately turned it into a 8-3 playoff team, led by decathlete quarterback Ken Hobart. Erickson's overall record with the Vandals was 32-15 (.680): 31-13 (.704) in the regular season and 1-2 in post season. He went 4-0 against rival Boise State, a team which had dominated the series by winning the previous five games.[1] (The winning streak against the Broncos continued through 1993, reaching 12 games.)
"

According to Google, long enough to become " Idaho's all-time winningest head coach in just four seasons with the Vandals (1982-85)". Was there another point you were trying to make?

There is still time to edit this before hearing exactly how wrong you are.

I am stunned at the carelessness and lack of thought this hiring was given. Maybe I am wrong, but do not think so. Even if this does go really well, that is not going to surpass UF and Bama.

Good to see you don't know Erickson went back to Idaho after washing out of the NFL. Want to guess how long he stayed before he went to Arizona State? If you have to look things like that up, you don't know enough about college football to be in this discussion.

Dooley was the 7th or 8th pick UT wanted. We'll be lucky to get 6 wins next season.

I'll still watch and root for the Vols but, guys, let's not pretend this is something to get excited about. He had a cumulative losing record at LA Tech. That says enough.

the timing of Benedict Kiffen leaving, left us in a very hard spot...not too many coaches are like Kiffen...he did not care about his players or his fans...he just took off in the middle of the night and left us high and dry...we were lucky to get anybody to coach us...this kid is going to be ok...he graduated from GA with a law degree...graduated from UVA with a degree...practiced law for three years and didn't follow in his dad's shoes like Kiffen did...then got into coaching...was on the staff with Nick Satan at LSU...No. 1 recruiting class in 2001 & 2003...followed Satan to Miami Dolphins...coached LA Tech...played very tough against Boise State and against LSU while he was head coach...give the man your support...I know I will...he deserves our backing him...I'm all VOL how bout you? Go VOLS!
:eek:k::eek:k:

No need to copy and paste. I'm BPV. I won't be here. I won't be giving to the VASF any more. I won't be renewing my new season tickets, which I don't use, that I had to buy back, at a handsome price, because we didn't fire Fulmer when he deserved it. I won't be buying my basketball season tickets.

I have two alma maters to which I donate, but nothing like I do UT. They just got more.

I'm not threatening anyone. I'm just telling it how it is.

OMG! what will we do. One less know it all on the board.
Good riddance hope you honor your word.

I like the idea of someone claiming to know something about college football having to use Google to learn about Dennis Erickson, then still managing to get it wrong. That's awesome.
