Derek Dooley......(merged)

Get'em vols_fan! They are why we are here now. If they were not calling for Fulmers head, and we let him have another year, sink or swim, we wouldn't have to battle each other. The fanbase and Uni is divided. The nego's (negative folks) think there's no place for tradition and don't know there football history. I would hazard a guess that there all liberals as well. Liberals never look at history. The vast majority of coaches are hired in this way. We have tradition playing the style of football that we play. That limits our choices as well. Nego's (libs) live on a different plant. They think you can buy a coach for tons of money from another equal or more successful program and he's guaranteed to lead us to a NC AND be loyal to the Univerity. I wish the insanely negative "fans" would go ruin some other school.

THANK YOU for making this the most ignorant post on the board I have read thus far today. Oh, also your spelling and grammatical errors really serve to advance your compelling intellectual juxtaposition of liberals and football fans.

I guess you don't watch the NFL since all the teams participate in revenue sharing. But, that's beside the point.

Time to jump aboard the Dooley train!!!

You can go ahead and throw out at least 9 of his losses. Why? Because small schools like LA Tech and LA Monroe play AT LEAST 3 games a year for money, knowing they will lose. Why? Because the payouts for these supports the program. Without taking these automatic losses (except on rare occasions) they could not pay to support football at the school. They know up front that without these losses, they would not even have football at the school.

Finally, a man of reason, and from a fellow ETSU grad.

Dooley was the 7th or 8th pick UT wanted. We'll be lucky to get 6 wins next season.

I'll still watch and root for the Vols but, guys, let's not pretend this is something to get excited about. He had a cumulative losing record at LA Tech. That says enough.

drinking scotch, not watching TV for acouple of days. don't want to hear anymore of hamiltons lies.

After all this mess, i'm willing to acept Dooley. Not just because I'm glad we got a coach, but I see hope for this man. We complain about our schedules in the SEC, THIS guy is the guy every school like us picks to play for homecoming. In my eyes, his record isn't terrible for what he's had to deal with.

Oh, by the way, this has been my first post on this issue. The entire volnation (of course) has been in uproar and the site nearly impossible to get on. But let me say, that i'm gonna enjoy Lane Kiffin at USC with the death penalty. Alabama took years to get over that.

Lets back this guy. Kiffin put us in a terrible spot. That's not Dooley's fault. He is not my first choice or second, even fifth, but. . .

He wanted the job and is excited about it. If he sincerely wants to be here--and he's apparently the only one who did--then I am with him. Let's hope he does a great job for us and Lane and the rest crash and burn in Hell/LA.
Well said. I agree 100%. If hes excited to be here I'm excited to have him.

I am ashamed of all these supposed "fans" that are judging our new coach before he has even had a practice. We should support this man until he gives us a reason not to. It hurts to see our fans be like Auburn fans. I will support OUR coach until I have a tangible reason not to. He is MUCH more qualified than Lame was, by FAR.

mmmm Koolaid :toast:

This past season, Dooley's Bulldogs finished 4-8 but lost five games by single digits and played 4th ranked Boise State down to the wire before falling 45-35 and led LSU at the half at Tiger Stadium before falling 24-16.

Barry Switzer, Jimmy Johnson, Dennis Erickson, and Nick Saban are laughing at your post.

Yeah. They're currently all on line. I don't recall any of them leaving a program after one year while you and most of this board had your lips pressed firmly to their back sides.

rocktop - You'll have to forgive my spelling and grammatical errors. Typing on a cell phone is not easy.

Forgive me, but my inferior mind fails to understand what point your trying to make with the NFL. Enlighten me.

i'm shocked they hired him. His worst season was his most recent one shouldn't he be improving La tech since those were mostly his players. Plus he was coaching in the wac surely the talent pool is better in his area than utah and idaho etc even after all the big bcs schools take the elite talent, that shouldn't matter anyhow since he was probably recruiting against schools more like southern miss for players. He only coached his team to 4 wins on the year against teams with a combined 14-35 record none of which had even a .500 record and no wins on the road. If your going after a coach from the WAC atleast go after a winning coach from that conference not a loser, if he can't win there what makes anyone think he can win against the top coaches of the SEC which by the way are the best in the whole country... as average as cut is he would have been a better option to just stay afloat.. vandy wouldn't have even hired dooley wtf is going on

Boise State and LSU, Navy Auburn, Fresno St ... 14 wins???????

I am surely going on the wait and see route this season! If the season is decent in which we don't get blew out i am cool. 6 wins I am cool; 7 wins I am cloud 9. No expectations vol fans just want the guys to be fighters and never quit

I'm not going to lie, I was disappointed to hear his name as the one that we settled on and let's face fact, at this point, chasing a big name was going to be very hard this close to signing day. In addition, let's be real if a Bob Stoops or Patterson, etc. had left their programs this late, they would have been roasted for bailing just like the Rats did(sad but true). When you hear names such as Gruden, Stoops, Lovie, Patterson, etc. being thrown out there and all turn you down, it stinks.

All that being said, I am willing to give Dooley a chance. He seems to have a pretty good acumen for recruiting if Satan was prepared to make him the recruiting coordinator as well as some coaching ability as well if Satan took him with him to the Dolphins. I think he'll be a fine coach, but time will tell. I know I'm pulling for him to succeed, we all win if he does.

Or is the sickness starting to wear off? I was sick when I first heard of Dooley but now I am back to being a fan of the University of Tennessee. I will back him.

Yeah, Saban was in Miami a whole two years.

I agree with you...on her spelling and grammar. However, your side bar with your NFL comment that had nothing to do with anything in her post you were busting her on scored you nothing.

Tell yourself whatever you want but Muschamp was the only other candidate that actually had an offer on the table. He was not our '7th or 8th' choice. He was not number 1, but he was not near as far down as you think.

you and everyone else have to realize that based off of what kiffin did to us and when he did it (both so far into the offseason and so close to signing day) that we weren't going to come out of this great

we were left in a position where we had to take what we could get this late and hope for the best

Agreed. I'm starting to settle in with the situation and trying to look for positives.

Good point. Saban defines loyalty. Ericson and Johnson never left a school for greener pastures.

welcome Coach Dooley! Why it took so long I don't know, the guy is young, great recruiter, great pedigree, and gulp, had to have learned something from years under Nick Satan.
