Deficit up 17%

If no one pays the percentage they're supposed to pay (even good liberals), why does anyone want to raise rates?

I think she is loving what AOC is bringing to the table.
AOC is not advocating a 70% tax on 100K. My daughter's taxes would go down under AOC.
So she doesn’t plan to grow in her career?

I’m calling BS Luther.

Not to mention, that rate is the starting point. Once that money runs out, they lower the brackets.

Do you dress yourself on the morning too?

all words, no action.

instead he cuts the government out and goes direct via charity

actions speak volumes

Seems he (like you) should put his money where his mouth is and set an example for us. You know, exercise your moral compass without being legally compelled.

Do you think more people would pay more if they had a direct say into where all of it went? As it stands, I think there is probably disagreements with ones moral code and certain government programs. Right now people are not compelled (legally anyway) to donate to church but still do because they agree morally on what it is used for.

I think there would be more example setting if the distrust and disagreement with government wasn’t there. Charities and churches are evidence of this.

I think Gates is pretty proud of the example he sets. As am I.

How about at the end of the year, I get a tax bill. I write a check and then check a box(s) on where I want the money to go?

Absolutely. My proposal was in jest but I could see it working (though it would probably hurt charities)

People on both sides of the aisle care about society and the #s on charitable giving demonstrate it. I think the demonization of those who want lower taxes fails to recognize that the objection is more about the lack of control in what the money is used for and the relentless growth of government control of everything; not pure, unadulterated greed.

Would you pay more than the bill if you could direct the payments where you want?

Or even better, if you had no bill and got to choose how much and where it went. Would you pay anything at all?

Option 1: I might

Option 2: deficit would skyrocket.

Because if you pay x% of the bracket then you still pay more when the bracket increases.

Yes
I have no problem contributing to programs. Especially those that are critical.
But it shouldn’t be taken by gunpoint and at the risk of imprisonment.

Just because I’m smarter than Luther, doesn’t mean I should be forced to pay more in taxes.
