He was years ago. Look at the number of players he sent to the nfl in the past, compared to the last few years. It’s easily accessible info.
I have a theory, and it’s just a theory, but being around pampered HS players the last decade plus, and handlers, NIL as well as the ability for players to just quit and go somewhere else when things are tough, and Garner is tough, I’m not sure his style hits with this new generation and all the things involved. Most of these kids nowadays can’t take old school coaching anymore. Akin to if Bobby Knight was coaching today. Kids would quit and go somewhere else.
Like I said, a theory, but one I’ve discussed with others who not only have kids as recruits or playing college, but themselves played in college and nfl.

And like I said to somebody else, that’s fair. I expect better recruiting and play if he stays.

You know what’s crazy about that year is many were fired up since he was going to be bringing aggressive bama defense. First game v NC state in atlanta, defense looked like a Bama defense early.
Then a guy falls off the upper deck and lands on people 2 rows behind me. It was like an omen.
Next thing you know in future games, we’d have 4.7 40 Teague in man with no help lined up against slot WRs all year and teams picked us apart.

We were 14 in team offense last year, that's hardly anemic.

This. GBO! Hobbs and Moi being often hurt and injured killed an otherwise very young DL overall depth wise. He has a lot of good young talent to work with now. But they need to be focused and be ready to work hard to reach their talent. But they have the D line coach if they will stick with him. Other than him whatever Knowles wants to do I will roll with that. I like that Knowles really likes Garner at DL coach. GBO!

We played 4 teams that their offenses were ranked in the top 60, we lost to 3 of them and 2 of them curb stomped us, so I guess the defensive stats were inflated also. This is the teams offensive ranks at the end of the year last year.

Ohio St - 13
Alabama - 22
Georgia - 38
Arkansas - 43
Florida - 64
Nc St - 67
Vandy - 73
Miss St - 86
OU - 97
KY - 119
UTEP - 122
Kent St - 134
Pretty safe to say that defense was way overrated.

He had some veteran studs last season, but it appears the evals and/or development....not to mention strength and conditioning...are lacking. Wonder if Garner has lost his mojo and fire? He's no spring chicken. Happens to the best of us.

I mentioned somewhere I have a theory about his old school coaching not registering with today’s youth as well. Players are more pampered, they are already making money, and if they get butthurt they don’t have to work thru obstacles anymore and learn from them. They can just quit and go play for somebody else.

Georgia and Ohio St? Possibly 2 best programs in the country right now, but regardless— I don’t understand what you’re trying to accomplish by re-writing the narrative of 2024. 6th total defense, 7th scoring defense, 10th TFLs. Running game was good but couldn‘t throw the ball downfield and were limited. Still pretty fresh in the memory.

I'm trying to say that defense was way overrated and provided you with the stats. It was considered the best defense we've had under Hueple. Remember games start 0-0.

Willie should be gone don't know what in hell hes done here since hes been here.He can't recrute either.Now Knowels is taking over the safetys.Linebackers coach also should be gone and Inge.

The "stats" are that we got beat up on by better teams where the offense couldn’t stay on the field and lost to Arkansas in a game in which we scored 14 points.

I provided the defensive stats. Pretty widely agreed upon 2024 was the year we won with defense. Sorry.

Brought in McCoy, Hood, Gibson, Redmon. First two likely drafted in the first two rounds. Second two looked very good as young players. CBs can only be as successful as the scheme they’re in. Banks called that; banks also coaches safeties.

Martinez tried to retire a few years ago and Heupel and Banks convinced him to stay. Good chance he steps back to an advisory role or retires outright. Succession plan was already in place and perhaps Knowles goes with that or maybe he gets his own guy.
