Defense will be OK…

Must have, bc Hood got toasted yesterday twice for TDs. Redmond is lost over half of the time.
Since Pavia only threw 1 TD pass Saturday I guess we know who doesn't have a clue on what they're watching. By the way that was Redmond on D on the TD pass. Also Redmond's pic was textbook D. In case you are still wondering, the clueless one is apparently you.

this defense was not only missing the 2 top corners but was hit with injuries all year long. At one time we had I believe 4 to 5 DL out, and we definitely didnt have the depth we had last year. Lot of people don't realize this team was 49% Freshman, ( the youngest team in the SEC) and only 19% seniors. That is a young team. I actually though the young frosh got better as the year went on. I see a very good defensive back field next year.

Offensively we were very good and Aquilar had great stats. We suffered from way too many drops on big plays. Plays that ended a drive, at key times.

I bleed orange, no matter what. GO VOLS win whatever bowl game you play Its extra practice time, nothing but a positive.

Fix the defense and we are fine. We are one year removed from the 2nd best defense in the SEC.
Yea, in 2023 our defense ranked 4th in the SEC, ranked 2nd in 2024, and fell to 14th in 2025. The coaching staff was essentially unchanged. I’m hoping that the staff does a thorough analysis of the data before they start making changes. This is not that different from having a well performing production unit that sees a somewhat sudden decline. We know the current performance doesn’t meet expectations but we need to understand what caused the decline so we can fix the causes.

Redmond did really well for a true freshman starting in the SEC. He improved as the season progressed and graded out well against Vandy (CB Ty Redmond — 78.0 (67 plays)). We need to make sure we retain him - he’s our best returning corner.

Sure it can work except for 2-3 big games each and every year where we can’t get off the field, give up 70% completion rate, 70% 3rd down conversions, 300 yards passing, 9 ypp and multiple 6-9 minute drives.
And I think a majority of teams will face this same scenario every year. I would rather have an offense that can score fast thus you end up with a defense like 2023. If we recruit/coach up we have a 2024 defense. The D coaches have not shown to be consistent enough.

Vol football total defense rankings
2021 - about 100th
2022 - about 93rd
2023 - about 33rd
2024 - about 3rd (some say 6th, but top 10)
2025 - about 97th

Folks can draw their own conclusions from that.

Is this yards given up per play or total defense? Do you think that total defense is a fair way to judge defenses when TOP can vary greatly?
