It is Martinez as well. GA ran him out of town quick because his DB’s couldn’t cover, took bad angles, and were out of position. Everywhere he has been the d backfield has been terrible. I get so frustrated seeing a DB sit back and wait until the receiver catches the ball to actually make a move on him. It's not Martinez!!! It's Banks!!!!
Exactly. No excuse after five years. Buy everything. As Indiana and even Vandy has shown, college football isn't a build it over time product anymore. With mercenary players and coaches becoming the norm now, seems like you either do it or you don't within a couple of years. There is no foundation building anymore. You build the foundation as you go, because you can't count on any player being there more than a year. It appears to me that the path to winning won't be through hs recruiting as it traditionally has been. To win now, you have to master the portal. Not just cherry picking, corralling most of you roster through the portal each year.
So you think losing top DB’s is the issue with zero gap integrity on the D line? You think that is the cause of linebackers not plugging gaps and vacating the middle of the field play after play? Also, why can other teams plug in a freshman or sophomore db and they play curled around our’s? Pump all the sunshine you want, but it if far from reality. I said 5 years ago that Banks and Martinez were mistakes. They have proven me to be correct. So you don’t think loosing 3 of the top defensive backs hurts defensive play? I agree that Banks has some problems but he did have one of the best defenses in the Nation 2 years ago. Superior talent can win when they are well coached and have experience. Banks is the same coach he was 2 years ago but he lost talent to injuries and a definite player. I will.not be surprised if he is let go, but if he is, it doesn’t automatically solve the current problem unless we find experienced better players in the portal.
I thought Ricky Gibson, Colton Hood, J. McCoy were really good corners. Banks and the Safeties are the problem, Martinez is much better coach than Banks. It is Martinez as well. Vol football total defense rankingsSo you don’t think loosing 3 of the top defensive backs hurts defensive play? Hood and McCoy transferred in. I credit their success to a lot of what they were taught elsewhere. Martinez is definitely not a good DB coach, but yes, Banks is even worse.I thought Ricky Gibson, Colton Hood, J. McCoy were really good corners. Banks and the Safeties are the problem, Martinez is much better coach than Banks.
There is no point even trying until Wednesday after a loss. Society as a whole has some glaring deficiencies and they are reflected in fanbases as well. We are living in the generation that is now grown up ... the ones who in the 70s and 80s kicked and screamed at the grocery checkout, and their mommy's gave them candy to shut them up. Those people are adults now. They make this place literally unbearable for 2-3 days after any loss. Nice try though.Fix the defense and we are fine. We are one year removed from the 2nd best defense in the SEC.
96th in yards given up and 90th in points allowed. No one called a good game last night. You realize Heup has all the say, right? At any time this year he could’ve said this **** ain’t working and we’re making a change?
While defense is the glaring deficiency, it’s nothing more than a scapegoat to say our problems end there.
They are doing the same system they were 2 years ago When it did wondersSo you think losing top DB’s is the issue with zero gap integrity on the D line? Hood as been damn near elite all year outside of a few plays until Saturday. Nobody else runs that rpo Pavia runs and it got him one time. Another time we sent a blitz and of course gave a 10 yard cushion hoping on an overthrow. Players on the field make or don’t make a play but fewer plays are made when your coach puts you in poor positions, like giving 10 yard cushion for an easy quick and 1 on 1 opportunity with a running start, and putting players in poor positions is a big game Banks specialty.Must have, bc Hood got toasted yesterday twice for TDs. Redmond is lost over half of the time.
No, they aren’t as talented but losing 2 corners makes a defense go from 3rd to 6th in the country to 97th. I’m just not an excuses guy and I will not excuse Banks for his epic failure this year. It’s inexcusable. He’s had one really good defense that got exposed and destroyed by Ohio State. Aside from that, he’s had one in the top 25th percentile but the 3 others have been near the bottom 25th percentile. Banks is what the numbers say he is.The second and third teamers are not as talented than the starters and have way less experience. Have to remember we had 53 Freshmen /red shirt Freshmen On the team this year.
