kpt thought we won the 1979 SEC title. His "living memory" of the era is what he googles. Heaven forbid he googles up the wrong website....
Recently, kpt has sung the refrain of "up the middle" Johnny (as if he remembers) which pretty much shoots down his innane comment to you.
You must realize Nick, that the Gang of Five (GoF) have no living memory of the pre-Fulmer days, and they assiduously avoid any connection to the real world outside the back door.
Anyone alive and kicking at the time knows: 1. UT football took BIG steps forward when Phil was OC and recruiting coord, was a lot more exciting, and 2. UT got even better from day one when Phil took over.
Also can I get a list of the GoF? Just so I know for future ref.
There is no gang. We've asked him multiple times to list the members and he cannot. He includes anyone that opposes him into that group and automatically writes the off as GoF. That basically includes the entire site save VegasVol. Site orientation for you shoul be an introduction to Gibbs and explanation that the entire site regards him as an idiot. if you want to be taken seriously, he is not a good ally. He's already been run off other UT sites for trolling.

He's a multi-millionaire who doesn't have to work, and cares about TENNESSEE TENNESSEE and TENNNESSEE. He might take a job somewhere to have something to do, but he is not in "need" of one....Knoxville is where his heart is at.
Well that may be....but so far your not exactly striking me as knowledgable either.... And I can't take anyone seriously who doesn't consider Fulmer to have been a Great Vol, and a Great Coach....yeah he lost his prime, but most do eventually give him his proper respect and due. He took Tn to the next level, a level we really hadn't seen since General Neyland.
I'm not going to argue over if's and but's, what's done is done. He did slip up and he got replaced, and now we have to rebuild. However it's classless for a bunch of armchair net-tards to start hating on the actual Vols that built the program. He's earned respect. He's loved by his players, and the stadium faithful. If you don't respect him or the players opinions that loved him. Your not a real Vol anyway, the Vols do not exist for your bragging rights, they are the team that represents our University.
Too many, whether it's at this school or another school wear the colors, and use stats and wins to bludegeon fans of other schools to somehow boost their ego. Even though they didn't contribute the least bit to one win or loss.
They care nothing for the actual University, are rarely Alumni, and delusional in their expectations. Such "fans" can wear all the orange they want....but none of those compare to a man who Played there, spent a long career from the start up there, achieved the most wins of any coach and the best average of any coach since the 1950's. Fulmer is a through and through to the bone Tennessee Volunteer....and people who feel a need to still bash him get no respect from me... just classless boys who never grew up.
It was a sign of who was the brains behind the operation to begin with. If you want to play this stat game, Fulmer was nothing without Cut.

Another stupid claim. Fulmer won more than 2/3 of his games at Tennessee without Cutcliffe, and Fulmer set records at Tennessee during his OC days. Fulmer taking over as OC and recruiting coordinator in 1989 is the turning point for this program. Do let me know when we can get back to the kiddie fans on here hating on a 10-win season like you did in 2007. We're likely heading for another 6-loss season, the third in a row since the "terrible, awful" Fulmer was fired, and the dimwit kiddies are still pretending our program is in a better place for it.
I tell you who does like Phil traditionally...Vegas.....and vegas tends to have a clearer view then most fans....They LOVED HIM in Vegas. Phil's coaching style was a bit lik a Bookie....go with the odds....always go with your best odds. He was more of an NFL style coach in that regard minus the huge personal EGO and discipline...which may be required to go with that style. It worked for him as long as he had top recruiting....but that style requires you always have the best every year. The NFL does not hire "unknown" quantities....college has to and hope for the best.
But that's what happens when you coach by percentages.....you get a lot of wins....but sometimes FAIL to take home the big prize. Spurrier on the other hand took huge risks on single plays, but they were usually pretty brilliant....and people forget the flops..... Of course Spurrier's style SUCKS in the NFL....as he proved, and Millionaire players don't put up with prima donna coaching BS either.....because that sort of off the cuff stuff hasn't flown there since the 60's.
How many championships did he claim for UT without any involvement from Cutcliffe? For clarification, befpre another one of you jumps in and says the National Title, how many did he win where he did not have Cut as a resource at some point during the season?

He maybe a great Tennesse fan, but he is largely responsible for the trying times UT is experiencing right now. Hang your hat on his stats all you want, but they aren't helping UT right now.

Since when was Cutcliff a part time coach when Fulmer hired him? He was the QB coach before that. So you are saying that Fulmer had a QB coach that worked part time?
Ridiculous. Then again, most of your posts are.
BTW, were you upset when Fulmer was hired? We replaced Johhny after 2 SEC championships and a 3 year record of 11-1, 9-2-2, 9-3....29-6-2 overall. We fired Fulmer after a four year previous record of 29-21 and you were upset. You must have been livid at hiring an OC with no HC experience in 93.
Fulmer was responsible for those 2 SEC championships....Not Majors.. Under majors we had one of the worst seasons in Tn History, heck I remember that reporter who refused to leave the Press box until we won. Then Fulmer was amde OC and suddenly our offense changed style of play, and we dominated.... Your just giving more ammo to Fulmer, and why he was a huge improvement...talent was the same between 88 and 89, the only change was going to Phillip Fulmer as Offensive Coordinator.
I'm not in the "we suck unless we win a conference title" school of thought; I still like 8-win, 9-win, and 10-win seasons better than 7-win, 6-win, 6-loss and 7-loss seasons, as has been the norm both before Fulmer became OC under Majors and after Fulmer.
Logic do you know how to use it?
How can he be responsible for "trying times" when he's also responsble for getting us up to that bar in teh first place? You act like 1989-2000 didn't happen... Even in his "decline" decade he still had a better winning percentage then we had since the 1950's.....
I can't begin to comprehend what your brain uses in place of reason.
Your still ignoring the Fulmer is the only reason the program built up to a Nat Championship in the first place.....you slam the man for a decline that still showed a decade better then any prior to him becoming Coach since Neyland.....you are judging Fulmer against Fulmer.....
As for him having teams outgunned... Why would yous ay that? Who "gifted" him with such Talent? The man responsible for those players Was Phillip Fulmer, he was an Ace recruiter from the start.....he's the reason we had those guys. I'll admit when things begin to Slip alot of it was because he and Chavis got a lil lazy after so much success. But in 2007 he still managed to recruit the Number 3 ranked recruiting class in the nation....he hadn't lost his ability, just his drive....but to ignore what he built prior is just stupid.
Before Fulmer Majors most years just broke even with Wins vs Losses.
tell me this... What coach besides General Neyland has been a better coach for Tennessee that Phillip Fulmer, and tell me why....
I can't think of one who built anything close to Fulmer's Legacy.
Also "You mad bro?" really????....At least I have now confirmed your age group beyond any shadow of a doubt.
+100
I would add Doug Dickey played a part as well, he unlike our last AD supported Fulmer, and helped him be able to focus on one thing...the offense. The Dickey/Fulmer combo was a great thing for the Volunteers. If only we could get an AD like that for Dooley, a Coach background instead of an MBA.
An MBA AD will get you visual improvements and help you sell orange crap, But a Dicky style AD will help ya get SEC Titles. They understand what the coaches NEED.
Also can I get a list of the GoF? Just so I know for future ref.
