Defending Fulmer

I agree, I Just don't think it's that difficult to recruit to Tennessee, especially when Georgia is mediocre.
No doubt Fulmer thrived off of Ray Goff's mediocrity. Still, the talent level he was closing on was insane.

Absolutely. Despite what Vegas says, the UT teams of the 90's were loaded.

I just don't think it's the Herculean feat some make it out to be because Tennessee's lack of in state talent. We're pulling in good talent with little known coaches winning games at a 50% clip. It's time to put the 'lack of a good recruiting base' excuse to rest.

I disagree . . . but that's another thread.

I certainly don't think the man's a legend. He is, however, on the cusp of an achievement someone was touting as otherworldly.

He has this season to flop and flame out. When UGA is expected to compete they typically lay an egg. I imagine their message board has as much fun with the underdog posts as we do.

Another interesting phenomenon is Fulmer-lovers arguing that Kiffin is the worst coach in generations yet if we'd have kept Fulmer we'd have been about the same or maybe slightly better. Sweet.

You must admit he goes out of his way to defend Kiffin and trash Fulmer.
There is some of that going on from time to time, but I think it's more or less a reaction to how people defend Fulmer more than anything else. It's like the Black Knight scene from Monty Python.

Provided they treat Boise the way they did the last time they met, their schedule isn't all that tough. The whole East is down, GT is down, and they have games against New Mexico State and Coastal Carolina. Ole Miss will be bad. Auburn is an unknown. Mississippi State will be tough. If they manage to win the East they'll be drilled in the championship.

Fulmer also lead the team on a magical undefeated season.

Kiffin has never lead any team to anything, anywhere.
I don't care if you say Fulmer has achieved more than Kiffin. That's obviously true.

That being said, I think it's ridiculous to think the current state of the program has more to do with Kiffin than Fulmer.

Kiffin added no benefit to the program. He only prolonged the rebuilding process.

That season was awesome but doesn't but ten years of recliner coaching. I'm not sure what Pb has to do with anything.

Probably true, but I think that's merely because he left rather than his actual coaching ability. Any coach that came here was going to face the same personnel issues.
