Defending Fulmer

You know some of you sound as bad as bigorange and gibbs. Yes, without a nasty 4 yr run of 40+ wins and a NC, many coaches wouldn't look so good
That's not the point. I was arguing that Fulmer wasn't great for the majority of his tenure.

you gotta give props for entertainment factor, however.

Yes, but I keep picturing a stubborn 70 yr old man on one side of the argument and a 15 yr old kid that hasn't seen good UT football on the other. I can't get the picture out of my head.

This is not a rebuttal I swear. Do you think CDD will? Dont get me wrong, I pray he does this year. Just wondering if and how long.
I'll have a better guess after this season.

However, if Tennessee isn't competing by next season, I'll say no.

Who has been continuously great after coaching more than 10+ years in the last 30 years?
Serious question, and I'm not a Fulmerite or PF hater.

Like the 06 Arkansas game?

The 07 Florida game?

The entire 2005 season?

The overwhelming majority of the 2008 season?

Why go back to Fulmer? I 100% supported his firing. There is no way in hell he should ever coach at UT again.

Why do Kiffin supporters try to reference Fulmer's failures to make him look like a competent coach? They both had teams that quit. Fulmer had a handful in 200 games. Kiffin had two in 12. Both sucked, but at least Fulmer has some career high points to reference. The high points in Kiffin's career are narrow loses.

Tressel would have fit the bill if not for his idiotic violations.
Spurrier was good for over a decade.
Bowden
Paterno
Saban has been good for over 10 years, albeit not at one school

There are plenty if you want to go back 30 years.

Just for giggles, can you elaborate on "competing"? What are we calling success in year three for Dooley?

Personally, we need to beat UF and/or UAT and finish with no more than 3 loses. If that puts in ATL, great, if not we were at least a contender.

i don't know if gator fans would agree with me. maybe several wouldn't.

but, if you told me now.....that muschamp over the next 12 years at florida would.....

be 9-2 against florida state (fulmer was 9-2-1 in vs. bama)
be 4-8 against georgia (fulmer was 4-8 vs. florida)
be 8-4 against tennessee (fulmer was 8-4 vs. georgia)

give me 2 sec titles and a national title.

i would take it.

That's pretty close to where I see it.

Although I'd probably want to see 10-2 to really have any confidence in his ability to win in the future.

Just out of curiosity, what is the record for the most posts on one thread? This one has got to be one of the top 10 at least. Any way of finding out?

You also have to take 5 years of slowly drifting out of title contention, a loss to Vandy, a loss to Wyoming and taking on recruiting classes that have 7 seniors in it with only four of them in the 2 deep.

Who cares if you beat your rivals when you don't win titles?

i didn't claim he was great the entire time at tennessee.

i said that his first 12 years, 93-04, 119-31 is damn good.

i said the program went south and it was time to go.

Exactly. Look at the names you put down. Those are the coaches that made better runs (maybe--I didn't check your stats) 120+ coaches in D1 over a 30 year period and you have listed HOF'ers as having better runs.

That's because you asked for 10+ years.

Most coaches that stay at a big name school for more than 10 years are going to have exceptional numbers.

He's was the coach. The team clearly quit on the coach.

I don't know that they quit so much as they were totally overmatched at the end with zero reserves to spell them. We were down two safeties and four linebackers in that game.
