Defending Fulmer

Seriously?

i figure if i could pull this miracle off, the U.S. economy would be no problem.

i should have started small and tried to fix the U.S. economy first.

if i had just followed the adage to "crawl before you walk, walk before you run"

run before you punt

i will attempt to end this fulmer nonsense once and for all with several points that i would think most could agree with.

1. fulmer did a very good job the majority of his time at tennessee.
The majority of his tenure was part of a long streak of decline with no titles, so I can't agree with this.

2. despite, taking over a program in good shape, fulmer took the program to another level that everyone would love to get back to. the 90's are the standard that everyone is trying to get tennessee back to as most acknowledged that the neyland era ain't gonna happen, but the 90's could.
Sure

3. fulmer needed to go. tennessee had slipped as a program and it was time.
Agree that he needed to go, but it was time 3 years earlier.

4. it will be difficult for anyone to duplicate the success he had for the first 10 or so years as head coach.
Make that the run from 1995-1998 and I agree.

5. because of #4, the man deserves respect.
What do you mean by respect? I'll agree that 1995-1998 was successful if that's what you mean.

6. because of #3, no one should sit around and cry about fulmer being shown the door and act like everything would be peaches and cream if he were still around.
Can't argue with that

See bold

the man was 119-31 his first 12 years at tennessee (not counting 1992).

that averages to 10 wins and 2.5 losses a year.

that will be very difficult to duplicate and i doubt anyone does in the lifetime of most posters on this board.

I know 99 Gator. Fulmer sucked because he's fat. Half these guys on here made him that way delivering pizzas to his house. Thanks for the info, but unfortunately none of that matters, we're tickled to death to be 13-13, just as long as CPF is gone.

If you had any sense whatsoever, you would realize that Failmer is a major part of the reason we've been 13-13. I know that's much too difficult to grasp, however.

You've asked a lot of questions. Here is one.

When do you think Phil would have won the SEC again? Keep in mind the last two times he told people to expect big things were 2005 and 2008.

Its hard to tell honestly. If history had anything to do with it probably in the next year or two. Now, KPT, I wasnt sarcastic, so lets play nice. What do you think?

I know you weren't asking me, but I find it extremely doubtful he ever wins it again.

This is not a rebuttal I swear. Do you think CDD will? Dont get me wrong, I pray he does this year. Just wondering if and how long.

I think the key is, sigh, if we could just pull off the one big upset. I dont think beating Ga or USCjr (no disrespect to them) will do it. But...if you could somehow upset a top 5 LSU or my gosh Alabama, then I believe recruiting would go out the roof and we will get there sooner than later.

As I said, without 1995-1998, the run is nothing special.

You know some of you sound as bad as bigorange and gibbs. Yes, without a nasty 4 yr run of 40+ wins and a NC, many coaches wouldn't look so good, but then again, not many coaches have been on a run like that.

The drastic ends of both sides of this argument are equally immature and narrowminded.

Exactly.

Q: Why was Kiffin a bad coach?
A: He talked trash to Urban Meyer

I don't quite understand it, but that seemed to be a common response to thoughs about Lane Kiffin's coaching ability.

1. Talking trash about a coach is one thing. I support Flat out lying about a coach is something else.

2. You want critique on Kiffin's coaching ability. For starters, let's go with play calling in the UCLA game. Let's see how many consecutive int's we can throw! Then we can move on to getting thrashed by Ole Miss. Really, thrashed by Ole Miss. We're not talking about Florida, or UAT, we're talkin Ole Miss.

Never.

Not sure why history has anything to do with it. Ten years of not getting there means it's coming in the next year or two, why?

I wasn't that pleased with the playcalling against Ole Miss. The goalline sequence with Hardesty was fine. Crompton having so many throws was not. What exactly would you have done differently to win the Ole Miss game?

Maybe a pass or two in Tuscaloosa to the end zone instead of having an injured kickers field goal blocked.

Again.

The Fulmer Sucks like UTIE and BigOrange have to come up with some kind of garbage to validate their hatred of anyone other than their hero. So, regardless of how stupid it is, that's their argument.

I have clearly laid out plenty of facts on Kiffin from the day he was hired. I've said all along he has no place a head coach right now. He may become a good coach down the road, but he is in way over his head.

Ad for the name calling, you are sadly wrong yet again. You should stick to being Rex Jr and creating worthless rumor threads with TOS in the title.

My guess:

He's was the coach. The team clearly quit on the coach.

He didn't lie about a coach, if you're referring to Meyer. He misquoted a rule.

I thought it came out that the entire sequence of events was fabricated. If not, Lane was not lying and I stand corrected. He was just stupid and didn't know the rules like Spurrier said.
