Defending Fulmer

They would have taken USC behind the woodshed.

Tubby played it close to his vest when he was really close, but USC would not have stopped them while Auburn would have handled them easily. People forget, we were the only team to score more than 20 on them that year.

Woulda coulda shoulda doesn't equate to a trophy in a case like you claim

You do remember that if we played them in sept we were without one of our star receivers do to injury so would of probably lost. What was fulmers record in sept against Florida again.

Why? It appears they couldn't stop Travis Stephens in the game in Nov / Dec.

Facts. The real world. It's what's for dinner.

It does. Sportswriters agree, the people agree, a supermajority agree.

Just because the NCAA are bigger capitulators than Obama does not really matter. What matters is the real world, and Auburn didn't get caught cheating, and didn't get beat by anybody.

Why am I surprised this post has absolutely connection to the real world outside the back door? The Auburn team STILL has over 20 guys in the NFL. That LSU team put more folks in the pros as well.

The Florida game being the week before (where, remember we were 18 point dogs) took a lot of energy out of us. We were double digit dogs (a Fulmer specialty) despite all that talent....

Your outside the back door comments grow tiresome. You use it too much, don't use the saying in the proper context often, or flat out butcher your line in an attempt to question someone's view as you did above.
I believe there might be a very small box outside the back door. I also believe there is a time capsule in it that contains a 1998 vcr tape of the season and a piece of your brain stuck to it because you can't think past 1998 and you can't think outside of your narrow focus/box.

Like I said opinions does not add up to a trophy in a case
Are you doing bama math now?:whistling:

and they won it all in 2010 if I remember.

Played 'em in 2009 if I'm not mistaken as well.

Wait. . . so you're seriously considering the '08 Auburn team as part of "the run to two NCs"?

The phrase "beyond the pale" comes to mind.

had to look it up as i don't give a ff about awbarn.

the boogerpickers beat 5 ranked teams in 04. SC beat 3.

difference in margin of victory for the games against their one common opponent was 8 points.

Why didn't they do it in 2002 or 2003 when they played each other?

Emergence of the senior leadership, especially at QB position for starters.

They had a better year by any metric, and were not caught cheating.

Auburn is one of my least favorite SEC teams; I do not say these things easily.

But I am nothing if not rooted in the real world outside the back door.

Then you tire easily.

In fact, I have shown among the broadest perspectives regarding the issue (another notable included).

SC went into Auburn and castrated them 23-0...again, at Auburn...in 2002.

And somehow Auburn's going to beat them on a neutral site in 2003 because Jason Campbell developed "senior leadership." I'm convinced.

I dunno man. You say some things that are correct, but are completely wrong on others, and the reasoning skills shown in your posts are odd. I'm thinking you may need another club in your bag.

And? Without several very key throws by Clausen, we still lose. If you go back and look at Casey's performance, he was a hell of a lot better the second half of the season.

fyp (years were wrong)

Counterpoint: LSU castrated Auburn 31-7, at Auburn in 2003. Auburn beat them in 2004 on the road.

Georgia dominated Auburn 26-7 in 2003, Auburn beat them 24-6 in 2004 (and the 2004 Georgia team went 10-2, their only losses to Tennessee and Auburn).

Hell, an unranked Georgia Tech team that got beat 39-3 by CLEMSON beat Auburn by two touchdowns in 2003.

That 2004 Auburn team was just a whole lot better.

They were better because they got a new offensive coordinator.

Acting as if the 2008 Auburn squad that lost to Vandy was the precursor to National Champions is the ultimate silliness.

Why, after repeatedly saying he wants to get back into coaching, three years after he left Tennessee, has Fulmer STILL not been hired by anyone? Not South Florida, not Louisville, not UConn, not (hahahaha) Notre Dame...he tried to insert his name into all of those coaching searches and I don't even think he's gotten an interview yet. Why?

Oh, I agree. The counterpoint is only to the "no way the 2004 team could've beaten Southern Cal." That team was good.

There's no excuse for losing to the 2008 team.

Also, come to think of it, my argument also runs against Gibbs in counting the 2003 Auburn team as part of the national title run (or at least counting that as a reason why it's okay to lose to them). The 2003 Auburn team wasn't very good.
