Davenport Fired

I said potentially not definitely.

I'm not 100% sold that Kelly will still have that magic as the game changes and read options aren't as unique as the wishbone anymore.

Frost did a great job and he is the real deal...

But how many NCAA Championships do they have as a coach? Pruitt has about 4 or 5 with two different schools.

Pruitt doesnt have any either. Sure beinf an assist with them may help, but thats unknown. Frost and Kelly are proven head coaches. Frost arguably should have made the cfp with mid level talent. I agree i think frost will do well. Kelly is a question, but ucla has a much better chance at luring in top teir talent unlike oregon. Thats why i think he will do well, look what he did with average 3 start talent.

Come on, JP. You are retired military, so you are as brain washed as your daughters ever will be.

Enlightenment is the only thing which will keep any society from reverting to the horrors of the Hitler era. Learn to live in harmony with it. It has been going on for centuries and will hopefully go on for centuries to come.

You are a solid dude and my favorite poster around here. I am sorry to take a jab at you. It is just I never figured you would have a problem with enlightenment. And, in the end, I refuse to believe you do. :hi:

As I’ve said on here many times, I don’t have the football knowledge that I wished I had like some on here, hence me lurking for the most part, it’s always nice to come across another veteran. Totally off thread subject, what branch of service did you serve and during what time?

Sorry, meant this for JP, old woman can’t see without her reading glasses, please don’t blast me for it.:whistling:

I guess you can use the UT Administration as a substitute for no Game of Thrones this season. Without a doubt the Haslams are the Lannisters pulling the strings in the background.

Most Gator fans would be just fine with UT keeping Fulmer. Florida dominated him as coach at UT and Florida fans saw him trot out Jeremy Pruitt just as we were trying to figure out how we were going to deal with Mike Leach taking the SEC east by storm.

My point is, it appears Fulmer lost his closest ally in Davenport. She’s the reason he was there.

The new President may think Fulmer should have left well enough alone.

So you wanted Leach for our coach. Like a few of OUR fans. DiPietro brought Fulmer in...Bev hired him as AD. You weren’t worried about Leach...you’re lying because Mullen sucks at recruiting and Leach sucks at it worse than him. Self-preservation thing that the New CHANCELLOR will hopefully do the research that you’re too lazy to venture. :) so he’ll coach up what your university recruits on its own...8-10 wins regularly. Be grateful.

No! I like Leach, I think he’s hilarious, likeable and interesting, in addition to being one helluva offensive coach. Personally, I wasn’t interested in watching UT trot out Mike Leach’s version of the fun n’ gun in Knoxville. I think Leach would have been a huge homerun.

Also, Mullen can’t recruit? You’re saying that to a Gator fan? Do the names Tim Tebow, Percy Harvin, Chris Rainey, Jeff Demps, Louis Murphy, Cam Newton, among many others, mean anything to you? He recruited all of them at Florida.

No Urban did...well known. Good coach tho...like I said. Miserable, weak recruiter.

Leach is a one trick pony and you wanted that for us. Quit lying.

SIAP, but I find it amusing that Davenport is being demoted in part, according to DiPietro, because of her inability to communicate. Therefore, DiPietro thinks it is good logic to pay her nearly half a million per year for the next four years to be a Professor of....Communications.

DiPietro's letter was pretty weak, imo.

Army, '82 to '08. How about you, ORB?

Navy all the way here, 86 to 90. One of the best things I ever did.

Oh, you're a squid! :)

My whole family were Navy. Brother, dad, uncle. I was the black sheep. I get it from all sides each Army-Navy game, haha.

My brother was on the Nimitz from about 85-88. Any chance you two served together? He was a nuclear reactor dude.

So, you take a chancellor with very poor communication skills, and put them in a position to teach communication.

Even though that was my favorite carrier, unfortunately not. I was attached to Naval Amphibious School, NAB, Little Creek, VA.
My dad was Army and Air Force, I give him a hard time for the Air Force all the time.

I'm thrilled to meet you, ORB. :salute:

It is right and just to give your dad grief for his Air Force service. Haha.

I was rather surprised to see it in my e:mail this morning:eek:hmy:

Right?

My question in all of this is if she was as woefully incompetent at her job as the letter indicates, how did she even get past the interview process?

That was part of my point. I didn't see the NY teams wanting Mayfield over Darnold or Rosen or Allen.

Well Chubb and Barkley were the 2 highest rated players in the draft and Broncos scored big time with Chubb at #5.

Yeah, they did a horrible job per usual. Browns gonna Brown.

Made more sense to me that the Giants took Barkley since they think they are still contenders. Barkley and their O line upgrades alone can probably put them back in the playoffs if Eli can hold it together.

I think the Broncos did well with landing Chubb and thought Cards got the best QB out of the lot at 10 in Rosen. Not completely sold on any of these QB's but he has the highest floor IMO.

Did anyone else get this? And once again, SIAP.

UT Knoxville Leadership Change
I am disappointed to have to tell you that earlier today, I informed Dr. Beverly Davenport of my decision to terminate her administrative appointment as chancellor of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, effective immediately. She will assume her faculty appointment in the College of Communication and Information on a full-time basis on July 1.

My responsibility as UT president is to ensure the success of every campus, beginning with the leadership of every campus. A great deal is at stake in these hires, including and especially at the flagship campus, given its importance to fulfilling the UT system mission and to that mission's impact on the lives of all Tennesseans.

Since April of last year, Dr. Davenport and I have had multiple meetings in which I laid out performance expectations and concerns, attempted to assist and coach her, and suggested she seek advice from other experienced leaders. Unfortunately, my concerns about her performance have not not been resolved. As the person who selected Dr. Davenport to lead the flagship campus, I am taking responsibility to do what is in the best interest of the University by making the leadership change.

An interim will be named soon.

All the best,
Joe

Flashback, Nov 21 2016 ...

During a comprehensive national search, Dr. Davenport rose to the top of the candidate pool because of her extensive experience and qualifications. She will be an excellent fit as the next leader of UT Knoxville,” DiPietro said. “I’m confident the flagship campus will continue its ascent as a top public research institution under her leadership.”

The search began in July 2016 with a committee of faculty, staff, students, UT trustees, alumni and community members chaired by Steve Mangum, dean and professor of the UT Knoxville Haslam College of Business. The committee invited three candidates to campus earlier this month.

“Dr. Davenport is a proven higher education leader with a tremendous record of accomplishments across a wide array of initiatives that show her ability to achieve great things,” DiPietro said."

Beverly J. Davenport will be UT Knoxville's next Chancellor

He told her to hire Currie.

Is that why she's gone?

A quick chronology of Beverly Davenport with regards to our AD and coaching searches.....

He told her to hire Currie, told her how to couch it to make sure neither Fulmer nor Blackburn got the job, said the new AD “must be a sitting P5 AD”, per Haslam, and she did. That obviously disqualified both.

She was fully on board with the Schiano hiring until the fan backlash, and to her credit, she quickly read the room and almost immediately changed course.

Next, as her AD hire flailed about aimlessly for a full week and some eyes and attention began turning her way....as people were embarrassed and were trying to figure out who the hell was responsible for the national debacle that was our head coaching search, and were beginning to look at and ask questions about her, she fired Currie and almost immediately installed Fulmer, the ONLY human in Tennessee who was gonna placate the fans and turn the wolves away from her door.
