One of the things even Butch's naysayers must admit he is very good at doing is leading a learning organization. After every season, reflect on what went well, what didn't, and how to improve. Sometimes that means new coaching staff, sometimes a change in the processes, and sometimes a new addition to the team's set of values.

These are all good additions, well selected based on the program's evolution through the 2016 season. I applaud the coaches and team for picking them up and running with them.

Was 2016 better or worse than 2015? Applaud all you want but the truth is in the pudding and we'll see what happens in '17.

No one can go back and change what happened in the past. All we can do is hope it gets better in the future.

1. Proof is found in pudding. Proof. Not truth. If you have truth in your pudding, send it back for a new serving. :)

2. Agreed, we all hope things continue to improve in the future.

Bottom line is 2016 didn't turn out like any of us hoped. It was an upper-classed led team that didn't produce anything of consequence.

A new slogan...which includes traits a player...or coach should have on day 1 doesn't do much to instill confidence.

See, I look at 2016 with clearer eyes, I think, not jaundiced by either extreme to just see one half the story.

2016 had us play in, and win, the biggest-attended football game in history.

2016 had us break the Florida streak.

That's two wonderful things, two things of consequence.

2016 also had us lose to USCe and Vandy, two inexcusably pitiful things.

Didn't turn out how we hoped, no. And yet, I see both sides of 2016.

Do you? One gets the impression that there is NOTHING that would "instill confidence" in you for our team, short of a new season.

UT finished the season 8-4!

UT was going to play in the most attended game if UT finished 0-12 or 1-11. Not sure how that matters.

UT only sees UF as this "super natural" force. The rest of college football couldn't care less.

Eh I don't think that it being a theme is an acknowledgment that they didn't exist prior, or should have at any point and didn't.

Boca, you're going to be negative no matter what anyone says to you. So why argue? Just to be arguing?

No, I'm not. I just don't pump sunshine where there's nothing to pump.

It's great the coaching staff has a new slogan for all of you to get excited over. Good luck. Have fun.

Yes, because we've all suddenly mortgaged our houses so we can put bets on the Vols to win the 2017 national championship.

You're engaging in hyperbole to make a weak argument appear stronger.

Being pleased for the team that they're acting like a, you know, a team, and coalescing around some positive values is nice. It bodes well, all other things being equal.

Don't make our reaction out to be more than it is.

break/break

You're still being negative about something that should be nothing but a bit of a feel-good story. Working on your Advanced Eeyore rating?

If you haven't then you're the "nega-vol" you preach against!

Good grief. Keep trying.

Ask me again me next January :p

One of two awesome things is going to happen in January:

(1) You're going to show the photo of your 2017 Vols NC tattoo, and we're all going to tease you about how it's still red and inflamed around the edges like you JUST GOT IT :) ... or ...

(2) You're going to show a photo of bare skin and try to convince us you had the tat removed after we didn't win the natty.

Either way, it's going to be a glorious thread. :)

So it really doesn't matter?

sure it does...Butch just trying to continue to instill teamwork and leadership within his program...some coaches do that...some may do it a little different, though...:)

GO BUTCH AND GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So it really doesn't matter?

Actually, no it doesn't.

All it is is an anchor for the staff to keep coming back to through out the season.

Does it mean anything to what will happen this season? No, it really doesn't.

And the majority of the good players, the workers, the leaders.... They don't need it either.

I think it's a good theme for this year, this team... But it only matters for two reasons...
1. The staff decided it's important
2. The team embraced it.

Past that, nope it doesn't matter.

So take it for what it is. Don't try to make it more than than it is.... Cause next year will have a new theme/slogan.... Specific to the circumstance and make up if that team

Good thing no one gives a flappin shirt how much confidence you have going into the season.
