They literally made a promo video for it. I have no issue admitting im wrong on an issue, but its really difficult to argue, when they made a promo video. Its on every sports site in America.
I'm curious, like Volly, as to who made the DAT hype video. I suspect it might've been the sports information office working for the AD. It's their job (and some of them are students working part-time or gaining experience for their communications majors) to go out and gin up stories about the teams. Can't fault those young folks for doing what they're supposed to.
Note who almost certainly didn't make that promotional video: Butch. Or his assistant coaches. This isn't the coaching staff hyping things, overselling. It's just our sports info staff doing what they're supposed to be doing, promoting Tennessee athletics.
I don't get any Vol fan being unhappy about that.

And still, you don't find these promotional videos anywhere except on places like ESPN college football ... 2/47 sports ... BR ... VolNation ... places where people have to go actively looking to find info about their teams during the off-season.
There are millions of Volunteer fans. Literally millions. Let's say 10 million, for a nice round number. Could be more, could be less, but it's in the ball park and is an easy round number to work with.
There are, at most, 20,000 active VolNation forum participants. On any normal off-season day, you'll find around 2,000 logged on. During game days, the number can peak around 8,000-10,000. So let's say 20,000 total active users.
That's one out of every 500 Vols fans. 499 of every 500 don't do VolNation. The hu-yuge majority of all Vols fans don't come looking for off-season info about the team here.
Maybe a few more go to ESPN, or 2/47, or Bleacher, but it's not gonna be massive amounts more. Even if you put all those sites together and come up with 100,000 distinct people, that's still just one in 100. 99% of Volunteer fans will likely never hear about DAT Way. Ever.
Not oversold. We're just the small minority of the fan base who are scrabbling around looking for it.
Who is "they" that made the promo video?

There are millions of Volunteer fans. Literally millions. Let's say 5 million, for a round number. Could be more, could be less, but it's in the ball park.

The video was done by sec network.
There was a huge poster hanging on a building. Its being sold and its dumb.
I dont think anyone is unhappy about, i just think overselling this stuff is silly, and done to ocercompensate for failures on the field. Im okay with a team having slogans and such, every organization does that, not just sports teams. But let your performance speak for itself. Why hang a huge poster of your teams new slogan outside the sports complex. Just go live the slogan out in daily practice and let the performance speak for itself, thats my only point.

My brother is a huge Vols fan also but not a fan of message boards. I guarantee you that he has no idea about "DAT". Neither would I if I hadn't been on here. Making a video doesn't make it more known. Other teams have vids also, I don't watch them.
JP is 100% correct imo. There are 2 kinds of people that see and hear these things. Both are looking for them.
1. Those that enjoy any and everything related to the Vols.
2. People looking for something to pizz on.
It's a slogan for a college sports team. Anyone bothered by that is 100% in the second category.
Im not bothered by teams having slogans.
Im not bothered by teams making hype videos.
Im not bothered by this video, i just think its stupid and published to compensate for failures on the field. Having slogans and such is natural in any organization, however they shouldnt have to be used to sale your organization. Your product should do that.

Well, I actually wasn't referring to you.
But I do disagree with the rest of your post. College football is a business. Randomly, I'll use automobile manufacturers. If Ford/Chevy/Dodge makes a heap of crap or has a recall one year, they don't stop advertising. Sorry, but that's a horrible idea.
Sure they dont stop advertising. But i continue to buy Fords for one reason and one reason only.....they produce solid products every year. Despite any small recalls they have, Ford does goid business. Have owned several brand new fords, always solid, easy to work with on any recalls. Their product has sold me, not a single slogan that they may use in their corporate office. Impulse buyers by things based on advertising slogans....smarts shoppers see through advertising slogans and buy solid products.
But no offense from you, you are a good poster. Im not saying CBJ shouldnt put out the hype videos. I enjoy the clips of players making plays and the video with him walking through the tunnell, the whole when to i start thing. The videos that highlight our traditions and stuff are good...thats selling your product. Stuff like this, there is nothing wrong with it, it just belongs in the locker room or player facilities...not on a huge banner on the outside of a building. Its no big deal really, i just think its stupid. But hey, win the east next year and you can make all the stupid videos you want.
