Mel Kiper puts him at the top. If you built a prototypical receiver it would look exactly like Da'Rick. He is big, fast, strong, tall and has great hands. I don't remember a sophomore being as good as him since I have been watching the Vols. Hunter is more exciting but I would be comfortable sending DR anywhere on the field to catch the ball and would cringe sending JH over the middle.
Again, I doubt that many of them are actually Tennessee fans. Most of them are opposing team fans who are here under false pretenses, to cause trouble.
I mean, who could get down on Darick after that catch that beat Candy? He's a stud, and we're lucky to have him.
I think you're seeing why Da'Rick acts the way he does towards fans in this thread
He doesn't have elite hands or speed to be a first round pick. Rogers doesn't get off man coverage that well either. That doesn't mean he isn't an amazing player. Coaches were terrified of Hunter. He was the person they game planned around. Not Rogers.
Agree with this... but now will play the devil's advocate on Hunter.
I am not sure you can call him a first day draftee right now either. I think he has elite ability all the way around except for a couple of question marks. He has great hands. He has great speed and quickness. He's intelligent and runs very good routes. He can jump and make the spectacular play almost effortlessly. However...
One concern is his strength. I don't think he can block NFL DB's right now. He has little trouble getting off the LOS in college but NFL DB's might manhandle him.
The biggest concern however if I am a GM thinking of spending that amount of money is that JH is coming off of a non-contact ACL. Yes, freak things sometimes happen but what if that's an indication of a recurring issue?
Boldin ran worse (4.8) than Fitz (4.6) or Crabtree (who didn't run at the combine). And he didn't have a 1000 yard receiving year until he was a senior. Rogers will definitely be a 1st rounder.
Do you think NFL scouts just look at stats and 40 times? Darick was the only recieving option on our team. Poole had more rushing yards than Micheal Dyer in 2010, does that mean Poole is the better back? No it doesn't, it means Poole was our only option compared to Dyer who was in a split back system. Fitzgerald and Crabtree both took over games. Darick doesn't do that. He is a mid-range reciever.

I agree with him not being a good blocker, none of our recievers were, but Randy Moss has a very similar body size to Hunter. Hunter completely destroys man coverage which is something that Darick and most recievers can't do. The ACL tear is going to be a problem, but his skill set as a reciever shouldn't be hampered by his ACL that much.
Did I say that they only looked at stats and 40s times? They take into account the entire body of work. Da'rick produced big time against some of the best competition in college, as a sophomore, while he was consistently double teamed. I'm not sure what you're watching to say he is a mid-range talent, but I guess you know more than Mel Kiper.
He wasn't consitently double teamed, most teams ran a cover two against us. Kentucky put their best corner on Rogers at the end of the first half and shut him down. Those statements are coming from a former vol player with ties across the sec on vq. Darick isn't a reciever that stretches the field like Hunter, which is why he is more than likely going to be moved to the slot. He thrives in 12-20 yard catches. I don't know more than Mel Kiper, but I don't feel he is a first round pick. IMO.
I don't know when a second round draft pick turned into a bad player.
Agree. I just think those things legitimately keep him out of the first 2 or 3 rounds as we sit today. After the season, it could be a whole different story for him and DR. If DR shows improved hands then he climbs IMO. If Hunter shows durability... he climbs.
We will have to agree to disagree. And you said mid round which would imply around the 4th round, as that is the middle of the draft.
When I said mid range, I meant as a 12-20 yard reciever like Welker, not a 4th to 5th round pick. Darick will definitely go in the first 3 rounds. Thats not an arguement.
Justin Hunter proved he could take a hit. You shouldn't be cringing. Most of you are bashing Justin. This thread wasn't meant for Justin. There's another thread about Justin. Justin is a splendid receiver, one hell of a person, and the embodiment of the perfect student athlete.
Ah I misunderstood you. But maybe you should go look at some NFL rosters and see how many of the #1 are mid range (ala colston, roddy white, nicks, etc) and how many are burners (there are some but not as many). I would say people who stretch the field are more generally the 2nd and 3rd receiver for teams (ala devry henderson, Mario manningham, Johny Knox, etc.)
White and Nicks both can stretch the field and take over games. Especially Nicks. Colston can't and he wasn't a first round pick. Darick is young though and this is just my opinion. I don't see him getting picked before Hunter or Woods.
Colston was drafted so late because he went to hofstra (division I AA). And I think all three of them are considered possession receivers who have the ability to make big plays. Similar to Rogers who did catch a few bombs this year if you have forgotten.
